Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Garbage “leadership”

Just remember that there is more accountability for a mid-level IC than there is for Enrique. He’ll fail and get a golden handshake deal while our colleagues are laid off and job hunting in the worst job market in our lifetime.

F PayPal “leadership”, F the board. They have ki-led what was once upon a time a fintech leader and they have ZERO vision to bring it back from the dead. I would have welcomed a Stripe acquisition even at that number. At least they have some kind of trajectory.

Sorry to all who have been affected. I hope we all find better gigs. Check on your friends.

The leadership at Di-ks Sporting Goods bought $3.7M worth of stock when it dipped after earnings. Meanwhile, the shittiest management team on Wall Street just keeps getting handed free shares of PayPal while diluting everyone else. They purchase ZERO shares with their own money. Fire half the company.

The BOD’s already realized they were lazy and messed up. I think they believed other companies would actually want to buy PayPal but once you look under the hood you see a failing company with shrinking margins and customer base. Combined with a mo--n CEO equals going nowhere.

Agree. 8 years in Omaha and now im out. We’re getting fired because Alex Chris’s blew it spectacularly. The board blew it and the continue to blow it. The rats have been leaving the sinking ship since 2021.

It’s just embarrassing at this point. If I was Enrique I would just resign on my own.

Man, the more you look and analyze the worse it gets. A monkey could do a better job as CEO.

I share your disdain for the board and for leadership. Enrique did not become CEO to innovate and lead. He came in to make the financials work. He's not a visionary. None of these people are, they only seem to want to do what others are doing. The vision at the moment is cut costs, reduce spend, flatten the hierarchy (while leaving them at the top), and use AI. For all the fanfare that Enrique brought, he's just another CEO who is looking at the bottom line. However, if we would be acquired, the bloodbath would be worse. I do think that will eventually happen as Enrique and the Board are just trimming the fat so that we can be more attractive to a bidder. Once that acquision happens, you can guarantee there will be more layoffs.

I'm glad we have been able to help the shareholders. I couldn't sleep last night, not because of looming layoffs, but because I was deeply concerned for them. I hope they are making money. God, I hope they are. We have a responsibility to them.

Enrique and all those execs can eat a bag of di-ks. His target compensation in 2027 is somewhere around $35M. He will probably bring home 200x most people at the company. Now, does that seem fair? Honestly it's a pretty sweet gig for just cutting costs and performing layoffs. They love to bring him up and act like he's a man of the people, but this guy is a multi-millionaire who will be just fine regardless of PayPal's future. Meanwhile, people who have kids and need insurance well, that's too bad because the stock price needs to go up.

This could be the slowest “turnaround” in modern history.
