Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Literally crying at my desk this morning...

This place, it's stress, having been on so many teams, underpaid for years & realizing my loyalty means nothing, my never make mistakes in the work means nothing. I'm a 43yo man literally at his desk in tears because I can't make ends meet.

I got a notice about student loan repayments - mine will go from previously $50/mo to $850/mo after the SAVE fiasco. I will no longer have money for food, if I pay all my other bills & rent. Forget ever buying a home, just at the cusp of being really able to save in life, now this. This place has fu---d me over financially for YEARS & I've been unable to get out from under it.

No kids, never arrested, no points on my license, excellent credit, did all the right things in life, no illicit substance use, almost never drink, only for this company to underpay, overwork, & sc--w me simply because our Indian CEO can and will ship my job abroad for a third of the cost. This arbitrage isn't what I signed-up for, I signed-up for a fair progressive career.

So here I am, crying at my desk at Hopkins, can't take a sick day because Qasim is a sociopath & I'm on 'a list' of people who use ssl (what the actual fu-k, it's disgusting). Come find me, maybe help push me off the 3rd floor parking deck later, I'm not that heavy.

You read that right. This place is the root of all of my life problems. I'm a loser & deserve what's coming.

@kv There is a new policy in MyHR as of this week they created specifically in an attempt to protect them from this, talking about excused vs unexcused absences. The SSL list is definitely real.

@OP if they're keeping track of people who use sick time to put them on some list, that's quite literally against policy. SSL is to be used without consequences. That was the whole purpose of the policy.

A HR lawyer would have a field day with this if you can prove it.

You don't blame your college at all? Student loans are horrible.

Own your life. Stop wishing and hoping and do what you need to do. We all make choices and forge our own path.

Wow what a coincidence.. this place is also the root of literally everything wrong in my life.

My life was literally ruined by a few heartless Individuals (managers)

If you think I am overreacting…

Then let’s see if you say the same after working here for years resulting in a life changing diagnosis from all of the toxicity these individuals caused me.

Life no longer has color. The clock is ticking for me with no guarantee of making it through this and a guaranteed time of misery for whatever time I have left.

I spent the last 4 years ruined from these people up until the very second as I type this.

I will spend the rest of my time wallowing in depression, hurt, and regret.

The only thing I can do to get help and feel better is pray to god.

I will include you in my prayers op.

I’m sorry. You are not alone.

@a3 I wish for you what you wish for others.

@OP First, you are NOT a loser. You're someone who did what he was told to do to achieve success, and you were lied to about it all along the way. You aren't alone. I know that's little consolation. Those feelings of hopelessness are brutal, and right now your brain is lying to you.

Please, take advantage of FMLA and Short-Term Leave (or Long-Term, if you need it). Document the absolute fu-k out of everything related to that before and after you return. Go see your medical provider and let them help you. This isn't baseless advice - I had to do all of those things myself once because of the conditions we're subjected to here. This place isn't worth your life.

Seek counseling services now. Take the sick leave to do so. A job is not worth more than your life.

Next, realize it is just a job and not a reflection of your worth and not something to worry about in the long run. It really is just a job, and there are other jobs out there with both better and worse environments. If you can view it this way and see if for what it is, you will be better off. I promise.

If you have been at a job for about 3 years with no raises it nothing more than COLA in any of those years, you are probably underpaid.

For the sake of your mental and physical well being I would strongly advise you to work towards finding a new job at a different company altogether.

I know how you feel. I was there. But there is a way through. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. I don’t know enough about student loans and the payment increases but I figure if some of the people I’ve met recently can retire without pensions and just social security doing minimum wage type jobs out there then there has to be a way for all of us. Please reach out for assistance - talk to someone and people around you to see if there’s something you can do for your debt.

You are not a loser. You're just someone who has been carrying too much for too long and now it feels like you're hitting a breaking point. Please take care of yourself and talk to someone today that you trust like a friend, another coworker or family member. The problems you're facing right now might feel impossible in the moment but they can be worked through. There are solutions out there. Financial struggles and feeling burnt out are common these days, especially given the frustrations you described. It doesn't make you less deserving of love and support. The comments about the parking deck are very concerning to me. If those feelings are real, reach out to someone or call or text 988 today. You've got this.
