Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

AI class action law suit

So I’m not very familiar with things like this. But curious as to if anyone has thought of maybe an ai class action lawsuit for taking our jobs or any jobs in general. Opinions or information on this. I just think if we don’t start standing up now to ai we are all going to be jobless at some point.

@dx well I would suggest calling an employment attorney in your state and possibly knowing a claim with EEOC.

@OP my issues isn’t the layoffs rather bullying from a leader. I’d like to join or atleast speak to a lawyer if anyone else has one. Pls let me know. U don’t have to give me ur name or info just the lawyers and I’ll call. I’d like a lawyer that also is representing others here.

I mean union would be the only way but even then it maybe too late. The issue about even attempting and AI lawsuit is that what proof do we have any of these layoffs were tied to AI? I know none of the claim ones were yet, and even if they were what stop Centene from just tying it to the decrease business in Market Place? Its almost impossible to beat a Corporate Organization with situations like these.

@c0 definitely correct. In the 90s the mass exodus of blue collar jobs, factories, were shipped oversea. I worked then in the garment district and became a displaced worker when my job, executive admin to the treasure of Calvin Klein, was moved to NJ and I was unable to travel. Jobs became scarce as the industry was changing and jobs shrinking due to software becoming more sophisticated as well. I went to my local workforce center and signed up to medical assistant school because that was the next market to through expansion, and here I am facing another death of job life cycles. The point is, always need to stay moving with the times. World keeps evolving and now the new emerging market is AI and life leading more towards the Jetson. Not to age myself, for folks who remembers seeing Robocop in the theaters we thought it was cool and now we are here. Good luck to all and good health.

Technological progress is unstoppable. White collars are modern-day Luddites trying to er--t a fence around their little fiefdom. It didn't work back then and it won't work now. You thought mass displacement of labor was funny when it was happening to blue collars, manufacturing, and "low class" people who had different political beliefs than you. It was popular to laugh at those people, all the hip shows and glamorous talking heads were burying them with mockery. Now it's your turn. Remember, it isn't the end of the world, it's just the end of you.

If you are in an "at-will" state, there isn't really that much you can do other than form a union. There are federal laws that afford workers some rights, but trying to sue a company for restructuring or other corporate excuses would be quite difficult. Reach out to an labor lawyer, some don't charge first time consultation fees.

@b9 I imagine that there are and have been hundreds if not thousands of employees doing just that.

Just a matter if time before things start developing. Unfortunately, litigation matters are rarely swift and require some patience.

Also, mostly settlements with those filing a legal claim is what will or jas been taking place. And they have to sign a waiver to not make public.

@ah just use ChatGPT and look up attorneys who have handled cases for Centene employees.

@af Exactly! Some of the nurses, providers, and case managers being let go are approaching an age to qualify for Medicare. They know how the AI algorithm is being used to deny legitimate health claims. So, what do you think is going to happen when their legitimate health claims get denied? That’s right; they are going to appeal and then get a lawyer if need be.

AI will fail miserably or do more harm than good… Computers/AI determining the outcomes of those it is replacing. What can go wrong?

@OP If you can get a class action lawsuit and enough people onboard and keep repealing it until it gets before the federal DOJ, then it will start making News media headway and the federal executive branch and federal legislative branch will have to take notice and will feel compelled to put a stop to this.

@a9 This is no longer capitalism. It has transformed into an oligarchy.

a lawsuit based on what? almost all employment in the US is at-will. this isn’t discrimination, this is capitalism. and if you think Centene’s highly paid army of lawyers didn’t think this through, you’re naive.

Interestingly, I was reading on a job posting this morning. This company named Mecor is looking for psychologist, LPCs and Social Workers to create life scenarios with solutions that would help AI how to answer certain questions. Seems like whoever works for these companies don't realize the dangers of what they are doing.

Politicians no longer work for the people, rather lobbyists. It’s going to take some people of character to run for office and turn the money down, along with people willing to vote for morals and not horse 🐴 💩.

@a2 I'm interested! Just look up attorneys who are familiar with Centene and who have won lawsuits for prior employees. I have already contacted one.

I think this is worth exploring. I’d be interested in exploring this class action lawsuit fact finding mission. You’re right, this is going to get out of hand with consequences that I don’t think the greedy are fully prepared for.
