Those who are in Texas and took the VSP, you ARE eligible for unemployment! I already spoke to my lawyer and I have a friend who is in Texas that was able to take it.
It is a lump sum and not spread out so we ARE eligible. Just wait until you sign the agreement first though. My lawyer said even if you request unemployment and have not signed they will just possibly deny it but you can reapply.
Just check with the Unemployment commission and double check for yourself and it would not hurt to go ahead and have a lawyer on standby just in case you wind up needing one. With all this craziness going on you never know.

@aa that was a big reason I did not accept. But I did get RIFd. And am supposed to get a smaller severance I have to sign a release for. So the way these people lie and twist I’m not holding my breath. Why in he-l we get termed on Monday and have to stay until Friday is absolutely cruel and I think they hope you walk away. What a waster of the past 4 years of my life. Here. With these children of satan.

@a3 Knowing Centene, they probably have included some language saying they won’t get it. I spoke to an unemployment worker in TX and they said you couldn’t get unemployment once you accept the VSP severance so I hope the lawyer has read the paperwork first to give the OP an accurate answer.
@OP My last job I was an adjudicator for unemployment. Whatever money you got for VSP will be factored out into your unemployment in terms of weeks. So they're going to take your unemployment amount and divide that by your hourly wage.
30,000/20.00 (hourly wage) would be 15 weeks that you would have to wait until you could begin collecting unemployment.

Re CA: The California Employment Development Department (EDD) treats VSPs as a form of layoff due to restructuring rather than a standard voluntary quit, provided your job was effectively eliminated.
Read the agreement before you sign it. It very well may state that you agree not to request UI in order to receive what was promised. Seriously.
@aa Wrong. There are states that will approve unemployment if you took VSP. As long as there was a chance of getting laid off if you didn’t take VSP. And Centene made it VERY clear that there would be layoffs post-VSP. SL stated it in a video & it is in writing. So pumpkin is actually correct. Unemployment is possible in some states.
Good luck with that. Did you pay to talk to an attorney who read the VSP paperwork specific to you or are you just talking out your a-s like everyone has been doing. The VSP is YOU RESIGNING on their terms pumpkin. You won’t be getting unemployment

@OP Fellow Texan here. That is interesting. I already did my research and that it not what I am seeing with the TWC literature. I had planned on applying and if denied was going to appeal. Thanks for sharing.
