I rode with an install & repair guy once, and the best parts of the day were when we stopped at a coffee shop mid-morning for cinnamon rolls and coffee. Then we stopped at an awesome Chinese restaurant for lunch. In mid-afternoon, we stopped by his house, so he could check on his kids and see what came in the mail. That was one productive day!

Any other vocation in a valuable area that contributes to society cannot just do jack sh-t all day and get paid. Except the office pleb.
Stop asking why AI is taking you over. Companies have known for years about the "sc--wing off but getting paid" thing you describe. They had no way of disposing of you and it was competitive to have layers and over-inflated employees.
Now:
- the measure of success is the least employees.
- they have the means to replace (or make roles redundant) those who sc--w off and stole company funds for years or decades.
- they don't want to compensate those who scammed the company. Hence the monitoring.
It's not undeserved. But you are bragging about doing that? Get caught. Lets see you brag then.

I complete the work I am assigned. Sometimes that means I work 16-17hr days, sometimes I get done in a couple hours, then have to sit at the office the rest of the day and try to look busy (just to get my 8). Other people it may take them more or less time than me, kind of like your tech job, some installs or repairs take longer than others. Don’t tell me you guys don’t slack or milk jobs. Pretty much every truck you roll up to the guys are parked in ac looking at their phones. It amazes me the tech guys just can’t wrap their brains around anything that doesn’t involve you using your hands outside isn’t working. Think of it like being back in high school and you had that assignment you had to get done and then your brain was just fried at the end of it. Yeah it’s like that for office jobs. Different kind of working. Believe me I’d much rather be outside doing stuff than sitting in an open office chained to a desk all day.
@jc so you and many admit doing nothing, slacking all day every day, whether at an office or at home.
WHY are companies not watching this?
I would NOT be paying people to not work.
Tech debt is caused by overinflated salaries for people who do not work.
Christ. Automate these people and reduce the waste of resources.

This was my schedule during WFH::
- M,T,TH- get up at 5:30 to go to the office.
- W,F- get up at 5 AM, go work out for two hours, shower, sign in by eight, work till noon, take a walk, sign back in by one, worked till five.
Got cited for my performance then. I’ve gotten cited for it since RTO.
Perhaps you’re not disciplined and need someone to be looking over your shoulders to make you work?
I sc--w off more in the office. I go out of my way to accomplish it.

It’s not a one size fits all model. Let people do what they prefer and you will have happy employees and get their best work.

I work 10+ hours a day with no lunch. I have attained quota for ten years in a row. Each year increases to a point where it is 250% more than when i started. That doesn't happen sitting around watching tv or whatever it is you think happens at home.
As i type this i took a vacation day to be able to get my annual physical.
