Sales- how’s everyone budgeting with constant draws

How are you supposed to budget with so many draws, and not knowing if you are going to have to payback all of that money?

@140

100%

For such a far reaching system, heads would roll and who knows, maybe in the background heads did roll.

Cutting and trying to move at lightspeed is one thing but successful execution is another.

What is to be done? I would propose they don't lightswitch the backbone of our revenue reporting and pay system to a questionable platform before it was vetted. They even delayed the CSG transactions piece to do that in waves. ISG, who knows when that will happen, but guarantee you their focus will be solely on those CSG and ISG transactions being moved to ODW - NOT fixing the comp piece.

@13r

Nothing can be done. We are operating in a pseudo capitalist society.

@zs

What do you propose be done about this? I can't come up with anything.

Positively absurd how tone deaf some of y'all are saying reps shouldn't rely on the variable. As if half the company wasn't on a 40/60 or even 30/70 plan (idk if those are still a thing like when i started) making like, $40k base or some garbage like that.

If you think anybody can live and budget in Austin on a $40k base then you're a bonafide, blithering id--t like @a7 is.

and we are supposed to trust the "true up" will be accurate? How will quotas be set when we do not have a clear picture of 1) Q2 backlog 2) Q1 and Q2 actuals or 3) everybody's full account list? Draw seems to be the only thing keeping this afloat; at least they aren't doing the 60% or nothing garbage anymore. 45% is still insulting but a little more realistic. However we can't help but to be nervous for the inevitable clusterF that is Q4 true up. Also paid on demand is a joke since that won't happen for AT LEAST another three months. That's if the rollout is completed on time, of which we do don't have a great track record. Maybe draw for the foreseeable future is better than what we would be getting..

I see people who live paycheck to paycheck and are having money problems when some of it doesn't come in. If you rely on the variable piece so much that you get into trouble with bills, you need to stop the spending. Everyone has a different financial reality with life. Being in Tech, we all thought the gravy train would never end. I don't think it's really ended but for sure, the pendulum has swung back to employers especially after the Covid hiring. Instead of spending, take a few years to save enough money so you can withstand a multi-year layoff? But, no one wants to do this. It seems to be far fetched idea to be out that long.

@ae you could try and knock me out, but you’d probably miss the target

@a7 commission is literally the single thing why anyone would start a sales job at all. The possible upside should be always the main driver and not reaping in the rewards when you overachieve your quota is the single thing that can destroy any motivation the sales team has.

@a7 what a self-righteous pr--k you are. Some of our teams have 50% pay at risk quarter after quarter. I wish you were standing in front of me with that attitude. I’d knock you the fu-k out.

I was over target, but regardless you should ideally never rely on commission in a sales role. If I get clawback it’s just a month where I’m not saving
