Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Dress code

What is the deal with dress codes at the office? Remember 2019? You'd get that email saying "reminder: business casual, no tennis shoes" like it's a bouncer at a nightclub for accountants. Somebody's checking your shoes before you send your first teams message.

Now? Now it's like the dress code just....left. Didn't even give two weeks' notice. Guys are coming in wearing hoodies, shorts, Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks! You know, the shoe that says "I'm not choosing between comfort and sandals, I'm doing BOTH, and I dare you to say something in the 10am meeting."

And nobody says anything! Where's the email now? Where's HR? I think HR saw the Birkenstocks and just gave up. They're on another floor somewhere, in sweatpants, eating a sandwich, going "you know what, let 'em wear the sandals."

Some folks i used to work with wore pajamas and walked around as if they woke straight out of bed.
Once hygiene was so bad they put sticks of deodorant on all the desks and cubes of everyone who worked there along with a printed off document I think from teamworks about cleanliness and appearance.

Go for it. I'll give you a golf clap from the peanut gallery. I stopped caring about promotions years ago. The next level up su-ks hard and has some of the worst job security in the company. Not my idea of a good time, but to each their own.

@OP I spent all of my f**ks on my commute. I couldnt care less how someone is dressed when they are not public facing. The cologne on the other hand, makes me sick on a daily basis. why do both men and women bathe in eau de ballsac before work??!

Actually, let the slobs do their thing. Makes wearing just a polo shirt seem like a tuxedo. Those same slobs will continue to complain why they don't get promotions and or decent raises.

I seem to have upset some sensitive souls with my post, so my apologies for your incomprehension. I was not really highlighting attire at all - my post was concentrated the decline of our collective character, which was confirmed with the responses. The person with the 4 bullet points (and I allude to that literally and figuratively), accused anyone of writing 3 paragraphs is not worthy of working at Wells Fargo. Although I did not find a 3-paragraph post, this person took time to disqualify credentials and then proceeded to explain the only thing they do at work is to count every second thinking outside of the box (ala quiet quitting) to prove their significance to the Wells Fargo brand. Well done....and concluded with some uplifting profanity.

@k9 I have same problem except it’s a woman whose perfume manages to stink up the entire floor. The worst part is it doesn't go away until she leaves. She sits in a corner near the window and an office, so I wonder if there’s a return there that su-ks in her perfume and then ventilates on all of us. It has to be something in her purse or how else could it be so strong?

  1. I don't live in a cold climate. It's summer year round here. Shorts and a tee shirt are this area's jeans and a polo.
  2. If you have time to look around, judge, go online, and write three paragraphs, you're obviously not interacting with your business apps enough to justify your employment at WF.
  3. How are we supposed to think outside the box when we're crammed together inside one, and then forced to conform to an outdated method of control? The only thinking I do "outside the box" is counting every second, of every minute, of every hour remaining until I'm no longer in the WF-approved box.
  4. Don't like the dress culture here? Find another employer that cares what clothes you wear. If that's what it takes to make your employed life happy, chase that dream and leave us the fu-k alone.

Shorts and tshirts IS how I take pride in myself. To each their own. We should all be WFH, not seeing each other's clothes anyway.

I already for gas, daycare, meals, and pi-s away an hour or more of my time three days a week to come to a big box full of conference tables with little partitions so I can spend all day...on Teams, just like I have been for 6 f*%king years now.

Now I have to worry about some busybody deciding whether I have sufficient "flair"?

i couldn't tell you what the person next to me was wearing if you put a g-n to my head. Why-and I cannot emphasize this enough-should I give even the slightest of a s$@t?

Seriously. Are you 12 years old, submitter? Keep your nose on your own desk and go play dress on your own time.

This is my opinion only. People should take pride in how they look. When you look good, you feel good. I am not saying men needs to dress in a suit/tie and women in dress and hose, however, shorts and T-shirts is the way I dress working in the yard. Take pride in yourself.

I have seen so many ladies and gentlemen wearing gym clothes on campus in office.

Ladies wear mini skirt and shorts all the time so why can’t guys wear shorts?

There needs to be a general guidelines even some may feel it’s common sense.

There is actually a story on teamworks for the dress code. “Personal appearance guidelines “. & yes shorts are allowed. As well as sports hats/caps believe it or not. Basically no gym clothes but business casual.

Wrong - it's just another sign that this crazy orb (or flat pancake for some) is spinning wildly into oblivion. Gone are the yesterdays of suits, ties, skirts, manners, intelligence, self-control, responsibility, shared ethics, clear and unified purpose, psychological safety, constructive conflict, dynamic resilience, critical thinking, altruism, and continued learning. We're all a bunch of babies looking for the grown-ups to take of us (myself included as I'm not special) and they were replaced by the riffraff staff we have now. Garbage in, garbage out. This is the best we got. Ok.......downvotes in 3....2....1....

I’ve seen people in DSM wear pajama pants to work. The rest just look like they are going to the beach or Walmart or something. When a company has zero respect for its employees they respond in kind.

OP what is your point? You just don't think people should be able to show their toes at work?

there actually is no formal company-wide dress code of what can and can't be worn in the workplace. If you look up the policy it says "managers must apply professional appearance and dress code consistently" and that business units may have specific guidelines that should be followed.

It's on managers, not HR.

If you've got the time to notice and care about what other people are wearing, perhaps the problems go a little deeper than wardrobe choices...

Morale is in the toilet, everyone is miserable. The least they can do is let us be comfortable. If you think business casual will take you far then you do you. Stop worrying about everyone else.

That being said, good hygiene and general consideration for your neighbors goes a long way.

This discussion prompted by this executive team that thinks they can reduce every job function to a number on a spreadsheet.

And they give a fsck what you're wearing to sit in a desk farm.

The egos are ridiculous.

I remember 2019. We had cubes. When those come back then maybe we can talk about dress codes. In the meantime, I would just like people to give me space and use indoor voice when on calls. Also, agree with comment about those who force their cologne/perfume on us - just stop.
