Texas Unemployment Issues?

Has anyone else run into problems getting your unemployment paid in Texas? They denied our claims for payment because of getting the severance package! So now after 6 months separation, they will now start the 6 month clock to claim. So 6 months of logging every job search so far, and now have to keep on logging it. No one is even willing to interview a database programmer in their 60’s! We appealed, and it took them 12 weeks to finally set up a hearing on it next week. Any tips?? TIA

@ag actually, yes, in Texas you do get unemployment paid for the 6 months after release, except for the one week you receive the severance check! We appealed in and had our hearing on Monday, and won! So we will get the missing 4 months of unemployment pay, now!

@jm if you have no problem income you qualify for the biggest discounts on the health care exchange. Last year my wife and I paid $313 per month for health care on the Obama exchange.

@az Not everyone is able to retire at 60.
We Cannot collect social security and no medical coverage /Medicare in the US until you hit 65 years old,
So there are thousands of overly qualified professionals like us that were let go at 60 where we need to work another 5 years, yet no company will take a chance at hiring us!! Dell and other Fortune 500 companies would rather offshore jobs and support economies in India and other countries rather than blue blooded American workers who have dedicated 40+ years to building this economy that you are all enjoying right now!

In MA the severance cannot be considered as pay so UI starts immediately.

@OP at 60 years of age you should be capable of retiring.

@OP No disrespect, but everybody knows unemployment benefits can't start until after the period allotted for severance runs out. A simple Google search would have told you that. And I'm surprised it only took them 12 weeks. DWS can take 6-12 months to get back with you. Dell is broken. Our POS government is broken. Nothing works.

@OP

After a lifetime of being a conservative,.I'm considering the cr-p alternative.

The system
IS
Rigged.

Work your self to death only to be disgraced & discarded by a greedy corporation & then grt bent over by the Gub'ment.
