I hate this place so much, and I believe this leadership is capable of anything, including that.

@aq it's possible the their goal is a 10% reduction, 7% coming from the layoff and an additional 3% coming from attrition caused by this disaster.
It'll not backfire.
Even if the company was overly aggressive in laying people off, they can always go back into the market to re-hire. There's lots of desperate tech people out there looking for work.
Do you think this will back fire on them? I sense many employees will start to leave Visa.
The corrupt leadership and their insecure hierarchy manipulate and suppress genuine talent while benefiting from inflated salaries and bonuses through office politics. They are the ones who should be removed, and thousands of lawsuits should follow.
