Mentally preparing for Monday layoffs in aiops - how does severance work? Do you stay on the payroll for a certain amount of time or get the package worth up front? What happens if you find another job during your severance time (ex new job 2 months into a 3 month severance) - do you forfeit the last month?

@h9 cobra insurance may not be sufficient. Once they terminate your employment. They will be reporting to USCIS i believe. You cannot use the same H1b to re-enter United States. Does anyone know, when will the company report to USCIS? until when we can re-enter.

@gk employees with health insurance have gotten cobra for two months on previous wfr is that enough to keep tie? typically the hb1 employees are safe from wfr and the focus is on higher paid people. I have no knowledge this time though about who is selected or cobra.
@a3 On H1b visa, is there a way to request the severance pay to be split over the span for a month ? like next few pay cycles, to keep your employment ties. So, you can enter the country without facing troubles.

Once you sign the docs, severance gets paid in lump sump in next pay period after you are let go. If you were in sales, you should be paid commission on anything that shipped while you were in role ( not sure with SCORE still having issues?)
In some states severance is taxed higher than regular pay income, so bear that in mind when you see that big number on your Dell separation papers, but far less in the net check!

You get ur severance about week and half after your last day, you get severance 1 lump sum. No you keep all your severance.
