Within a month I got an offer with a 20% raise. I really didn't plan on leaving but I'm not wasting this opportunity. This is just to say that there are jobs out there, in case you were not applying thinking the job market had nothing to offer.

@q7 Yep. And the ones at HQ, can anyone tell me what they do? What training programs are there for non-people leaders? And the so called program managers…can someone tell me what they do? The work needs to be seriously audited in that business unit and cut all the fat.
@q2, what makes the L and D over staffing so bad is that prior to Go Go’s disastrous malformation boo boo is L and D was a reasonably well functioning organization.
Now they have way too many employees at headquarters and not nearly enough employees at the local sites.
It’s the same situation in almost every organization in the company.
@md Agreed. L&D is one of those functions with at least 60% (or more) than what they need. If those folks are smart...they're looking.
In my last few months with the company I literally spent 75% of my time with recruiters, executives, and corporate recruiters looking for another role. My leaders group boss did not even notice. Phillips probably has 30% more people than necessary in many functions. In my case it was Finance. Take the time and take care of yourself first.
Recently joined another company in the energy space and the difference in pace and leadership involvement is stark in contrast. A CFO and CEO getting involved in decision making and interacting with manager level employees to really understand what is going on. Not micromanaging, but involved. When is the last time you saw the ELT off 14 or 15?
I don’t honestly know if there are any jobs out there. But yeah, you should leave.
Leave dying Bartlesville and be happy
My advice: leave Houston and Bartlesville and start living. Life is too short to live in a flat and ugly sweat box. Quality of life elsewhere is much better.
You should really be open to anything. There are sectors out there hiring far more people than traditional energy. Data Centers, AI, infrastructure are all hiring people while traditional energy squeezes more profits out of an aging set of assets and workforce. If you are open to relocating you will have a job within 3-6 months.
