Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

A message to Senior Leadership

The current situation at Canon USA is becoming increasingly difficult for employees and sales teams alike. After rounds of layoffs and staffing reductions, the employees who remain are being asked to take on more responsibilities, more work, and more stress—without seeing meaningful compensation for the additional burden. At some point, continually asking fewer people to do more becomes unsustainable.
The sales organization is facing its own serious challenges. Rising costs in both hardware and service have driven the overall cost of doing business higher, resulting in products and solutions that are increasingly difficult to sell at a competitive price. Salespeople are then put in the position of having to discount deals simply to get them across the finish line, sacrificing much of the margin and profit potential in the process. It becomes a frustrating cycle: prices go up, customers push back, discounts increase, and salespeople are left with fewer opportunities to make a meaningful profit.

Then leadership wonders why employees are burned out, morale is low, and people don't want to work.

The consequences are already becoming apparent. People are leaving, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to replace them. When experienced employees walk out the door and the company struggles to attract qualified replacements, the workload and pressure on those who remain only increases—creating an even bigger cycle of burnout and turnover.

Canon USA needs to recognize that this is more than an employee morale issue. It is a business issue. If the company continues down the same path without addressing staffing, compensation, pricing, sales profitability, and employee workload, the road ahead could become very dark.

Employees want to succeed. Salespeople want to sell profitable solutions. Customers want competitive value. Those goals are not mutually exclusive—but they require leadership to make meaningful changes before more good people decide that the best option is to leave

@1ag Dealers are scam artists. They always undercut reps in the field who do the heavy lifting and the buyer turns around and goes to a dealer and says, "Can you beat this?". If they go that route and shaft you out of a deal, bet smart money that customer will call you asking for tech help. Let them get your voicemail. And say and do nothing.

I have been in this industry for years and getting a new job is not in my future. Not because I am happy at Canon but more so due to my age. Companies simply won’t hire anyone my age unless they are desperate.

I hate to say it but we are all sitting ducks. I have seen this before. I am not going to mention where I worked but this “wait and see” approach they are taking with WTS is simply all part of the plan. They will push everything to the dealers to try and see if they can reduce the size of WTS. Simple logic, let them handle the sales, logistics, and service and then they can reduce the WTS footprint.

For me, I can retire tomorrow if I wanted to. Why would I? I barely do anything f anyway. I work on a couple deals a month, make a couple bucks, and move on. I will never be low enough for a letter and I will be viewed as someone who contributes.

It is sad though how this company treats their employees. I feel bad for the younger generation because Canon is a good company but they have turned their back on WTS. Let me get back to sipping my pina colada by the lake.

@ev even when we give every discount and the highest warchest dollars, we still lose to “partners” that win with our own branded Canon equipment.

@xa We better let Deloitte know about this right away! I’m sure the auditors will want to know what is included in that “miscellaneous amount” account ;)

@xa we get it you're trolling.
In the rare, rare, rare, scenario you aren't trolling you should post your full name and title with all the job security you continue to flaunt and peddle. I'm sure an auditor would love to know how you embezzle company money to expense your lavish lifestyle.

@v6 so cute! Seriously so cute! You can say whatever you want from your rundown home while in debt because you are not valuable enough to be on the senior or executive leadership team like myself. For me, I get to travel business class on the companies dime, expense fancy dinners and go on beautiful vacations with my beautiful wife and 3 adoring kids. But sure I’ll sit on a cactus ha!

@kh don't threaten me with a good discount. Besides Canon has already been discounting the sales and pricing teams of headcount, we could all benefit from a bit of thriftiness, since Canon won't.

@hn enjoy living in some run down house because you barely make enough money to get by. Again, we don’t care if you quit. We want you to quit. Enjoy shopping at the clearance rack at Marshall’s for the rest of your life.

@he You must be why Canon suddenly posted the new Employment Counsel position on the career page.
Good... I smell fear, rebellion, and lawsuits in your future. Enjoy the chair like your own backside... full while it lasts.
Go sit on a cactus while you're at it 🌵

A company that repeatedly flunks its audits is not one I want to be a part of. They make Enron and WorldCom look like saints. They need to go back to school and learn about the Sarbanes-Oxley Act & GAAP.

@bh Tell that manager their thinking is old, it has grown whiskers and definitely qualifies for Social Security. That manager operates in the past.

I heard from a trusted source that my team is losing colleges and large businesses soon. That is literally the only upside potential I have to make money here. Another wasted exercise by management that is going to destroy the branch I work at. Can’t hit quote selling one machine at a time. Sorry.

These posts carry a common theme: the message Canon USA is to make life unbearable that they force you to leave. This is the new strategy. You quit and they don't pay unemployment or severance. If you can find a replacement job that pays more, has a decent workplace culture, go for it. And flip Canon the bird on the way out. They are predators.

For those who are stuck because of personal reasons which don't have to be disclosed, utilize your PTO and call EAP on company time. If you feel compelled and if it does any good, and if you have proof, blow management into their ethics hotline. It time for management to feel the heat, and by all means, do the absolute bare minimum. In your interactions with management, ignore them. Don't talk with them. Pretend you didn't hear anything from them. Ignore their emails. Say it went into spam. And if you need to use the bathroom, take your time and enjoy the go. And put them into perspective when doing so because that's how low employees feel about management and work conditions.

I am not burnt out. I am more upset the company plays off they are doing us a favor by letting us discount the product. As if we want to discount it and make no money.

Salaries are too low to make 2% overrides. I can’t upgrade or land new business unless I discount it. At the same time we are suppose to look at the concept of warchest as blessing. In reality, we wouldn’t sell anything if we didn’t have it.

No way to run a sales organization.

i just spent 3 days at a sales summit where a majority of the sales people I spoke to stated they are looking to leave.

The idea that one of the presentations was about me cold calling for 16 hours to sell an overpriced product that I will make 2% on, no thank you.

Canon wants to have their cake and eat it to. They simply want you to work for free and then have the ba--s to tell us how much warchest they have provided. Hey Canon, if you didn’t give us the “funny money” you wouldn’t have the sale.

I don’t think for one second this company is doing bad. I just think they are not cleaning house like they used to. The idea that they are creating this culture will hurt them. Once again, a guy who hasn’t cold called in 30 years telling me I need to cold call for 16 hours should retire if he truly thinks this.
