The enrollment at Western Illinois University’s Macomb campus has fallen 47% since 2010, to 5,511 from 10,377.

Some folks got laid off about a month ago, more to come

The job cuts affect 70 employees. The decision, announced by Interim President Jaimie Hebert, aims to address a $25 million budget gap.

Hebert sent an email to faculty and staff about the layoffs, stating that the cuts will affect all divisions of the university.

The University of Northern Colorado plans to lay off about 50 staff members in early November and eliminate roughly 30 vacant roles, CFO Dale Pratt said during a town hall last week.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has begun layoffs as it works to address a $25 million budget deficit... President Jamie Hebert announced in a letter that the Office of Sustainability and Community Engagement is being closed while the Offices of Communications and Marketing and Auxiliary Services are being restructured. So far, six staff positions have been eliminated.

Hebert acknowledged the personal impact of the cuts, saying the university aims to protect the student experience, support faculty, and minimize human impact while restoring financial stability. A town hall is scheduled to provide updates and hear from the campus community.

WashU has eliminated 316 staff positions and “closed 198 open and vacant positions” from the Danforth and Medical campuses and the Central Fiscal Unit (CFU), Chancellor Andrew Martin announced in a University-wide email addressed to faculty and staff on Tuesday afternoon.

Brown University is laying off 48 employees and eliminating 55 vacant positions as part of a broader effort to shave $30 million off its budget, top leaders at the Ivy League institution announced Monday.

In August, the university blamed its financial challenges on recent federal policy changes, including an expected decline in research funding from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and other agencies. Prior to that, leaders warned that “significant cost-cutting” measures would be needed.

University of Oregon is eliminating 176 positions in response to its budget deficit, and approximately 60 faculty and staff will be notified of their termination starting on Sept. 8.
