Santa Rosa City Schools is turning to pay cuts for its top administrators and other district managers as another way to dig out of its financial crisis — and lay the groundwork for more campus staff layoffs that top officials say are inevitable to stave off the threat of a state takeover.

Do we expect notices coming before holidays or post or both? Before holidays is just cruel. I get the quietness cause last one was leaked and it was a horrible experience. Given the severe budget cuts for some groups + eerie quietness feels even scarier.

Boulder County announced Monday that it has eliminated about 90 positions, including laying off 31 employees and cutting about 60 vacant positions, because of a budget deficit.

The Boulder County Housing Authority and Boulder County Public Health also plan to eliminate an as-yet-to-be determined number of positions, according to the county. Boulder County spokesperson Gloria Handyside said she’s not currently releasing a list of the eliminated positions. She added the county is offering a voluntary severance package between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1.

Brown University is laying off 48 employees and eliminating 55 vacant positions as part of a broader effort to shave $30 million off its budget, top leaders at the Ivy League institution announced Monday.

In August, the university blamed its financial challenges on recent federal policy changes, including an expected decline in research funding from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and other agencies. Prior to that, leaders warned that “significant cost-cutting” measures would be needed.

Given all the layoffs that are sweeping through the company and still to come, are any of the jobs listed on oracle.com actually open? Can anyone inside comment as to whether they've seen any hiring happening or is it frozen for 60 days?

Oregon State University is laying off non-tenured faculty as part of a budget realignment that took effect July 1, following the Board of Trustees’ May approval of a plan to cut overall expenses by 5.2%. The changes, driven by rising costs that outpace tuition and enrollment growth, also anticipate a potential 15% reduction in federal overhead reimbursements, which fund research-related expenses. In the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, all non-tenured teaching staff are being let go, including professors Allen Milligan and Stephen Meyers. Milligan, who teaches phycology and aquatic botany, said his fall term course will be his last, leaving no faculty with his expertise in the department. He explained that non-tenured faculty rely heavily on grant funding to cover portions of their salary, and the new model makes retaining such positions financially unsustainable. While OSU says it aims to minimize impacts and is still hiring for some roles, it has not indicated plans to rehire affected non-tenured instructors.
