Are badge swipes one of variables used for layoffs?

the discussion has really ramped up… Iowa managers reporting they now see who isn’t in office 8 hours. SDI San Fran based employees saying there’s an 8 hour in office mandate… but my line of business has just heard its managers digression. Can any managers weigh in?

heads up - if you are swiping in at an office that does not match your formal office location, they are definitely looking at you. Ask your manager to change your location (if possible) or start coming in to the correct location otherwise this is the excuse they’re looking for…

Curious. Is there a time limit trip wire when you badge out to leave that is on a report. Say I badge in then leave 3-4 hours later. Do I come up in a report because I didn’t stay all work day?

Apologies if this is another sad post, but can someone clarify how in-office attendance is actually tracked? Are we talking badge swipes, IP addresses, or just whatever the reporting AI spits out each week?

I keep landing on these “magical” lists that show I’m not here even though I’m in the office 8.5 hours a day, three days a week. Meanwhile, there are folks coffee badging or popping in for a few hours who never seem to make the cut. I’m not trying to police anybody else (what they do is not my business), but this system does not line up with reality.

We used to be able to check our own badge records, now it’s “ask your manager”. I believe my manager’s is advocating for me, but honestly, at this point I feel like I have to advocate for myself, too. If this is really about looking for reasons not to give bonuses or reasons to push people out just say that. Don’t lie on me.

Just venting, but also genuinely asking for some transparency.

I know people are getting new security badges. People are telling me these are being used to track time in-office. Is that correct? Why wouldn't they just track your time connected to the office network?

Managers: “Work in the office OR ELSE HR will catch you! 🤬”

HR: “new managers misunderstand the policy and we have a 3rd party vendor, managers are notified of a trend before us”

So is the truth that managers get a higher bonus for people being in the office? Perfect attendance has done nothing positive for my career. Just makes it harder for me to do my job.

Get reports that are business critical? I mean there are so many things that are backwards but we’re focusing on keystrokes and badge swipes? Priorities seem a little backwards. If employees can’t deliver get rid of them for cause. If employees deliver and they aren’t in the office a certain number of hours what’s the difference?

All the signs are there, new badges , new VPN! We are watching you….

It has been said time and time again that Return to Office is not mandated. Yet leadership has mentioned that there will be people walking around auditing who is present. Has Cisco gone full on micro managing?

When did it start? And how does the reporting actually look?

I've been on a medical exemption for the last 4 months - a legit one - and the last 1x1 I had RTO was never even brought up. I was asked how I was doing but that was it. I report to a director so, a step up from a sr. manager and is one who would have more insight into all of that - I think anyways...

I'm almost wondering if this was a sneaky scare tactic Dell/JC made. Enforce a mandatory 5 days/week RTO that gets tracked and enforce it for a quarter; then back off and/or totally stop tracking/caring but don't tell anybody.

Think about it... If you/managers/directors don't know if they are still tracking it, people will continue to go in, right? The moment people find out that they AREN'T tracking it anymore... Nobody will go in.

I suppose the only test would be to NOT go in and see if your manager/director says anything about it... But I have a sneaky suspicioun that they aren't really tracking that anymore. If they are, it's likely just wanting a few days/week.

Has anyone gotten flagged before and how many days until they actually notice.

In case you all needed another reason to hate your jobs, here’s a fun treat for those who are going into the new Lake Mary, FL office that opens next week. HR has confirmed swipe out badge readers have been installed, and advised “Elevance expects all associates to remain on-site for the duration of the workday.”

How does WF track how many hours you are in office? You don’t need to swipe badge out in some buildings

Anyone has news if HR is running report to check if employee is working in the office? Or it's off the radar?

this whole bs thing started in what, early March or so? I went in MAYBE 3 days/week but averaged out more like 1-2/week lol. I was told by my manager that I should probably start going in more to stay off a "list," so i did. I'd go swipe my badge and drive the hour commute back home.

Then the whole manager reorg happened and my new "manager" is pi---d about the RTO as well. He basically told me - without saying it - that if i want to just badge in and go straight back home, then i can.

I live an hour from the office and got tired of the drive. I put in for a medical exception for something and was granted 6 months. So, I haven't been to the office since I think early April now?

Are they still monitoring this cr-p? Because in my last 1x1 he didn't say a thing about it.

Careful with how much time you are spending in the office.. They are watching and firing people who arent in the office "enough time". Keep in mind there is NO policy which outlines time in office but they will still fire you!

You can still see your badge swipe totals in workday, but is that even being monitored anymore?

Curious how coffee badging is kept track of when there is no exit badging. Is there additional monitoring going on? Does anyone know how this is kept track of?
