Salesforce - the nail in the coffin

Nothing like replacing an ordering system that worked fine - opus, and then replacing it with salesforce. But hey, it's ok, everyone is using salesforce now, as so should we. Watching the 17 screens of salesforce flash, redirect, load, bouncing ba--s - hang on were almost there - gives us all time to figure out what we are doing for lunch that day. Or hey, look at that butterfly on the window. You took a transaction that could be handled in just a few minutes and you destroyed the customer experience - all by using salesforce. After all, slowing down employees and hindering them is the object here. Houston we have a problem here - the sales reps are operating in an efficient manner - we have got to slow them down. Roger that, salesforce launching in full force - this will ki-l their numbers. But hey, everyone is using it and so should you, just gimme 9 more boosters while your at it.

Acquisition of F/m Investments

So what does everyone think? I guess we know why Ramon always seemed to be in DC. I wonder if layoffs/offshoring will start for those folks once "synergies" are determined. Overlaps in back-office, compliance, or distribution could eventually lead to some efficiencies once integrated. More roles of Accenture. It didn't seem to move the needle on the stock price.

CF Now Mandating Copilot

Well, it’s official. We are mandating the use of MS Copilot, at least in my department. This at a time when operating costs remain at a deficit, morale is low, rumors abound, people are losing livelihoods, and revenue is circling the drain. As one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies, I am at a loss as to why we are being forced to adapt to an artificial source of truth (with no guardrails) all to improve efficiency. Is this push in alignment with VSP and other forms of reductions in force to “save money?” What’s next, a return to office mandate to weed even more people out (like those who cannot afford higher transportation or dependent care costs)? I thought CF cared about the communities it serves. Is it blind to the impact of AI on power grids, water resources, and infrastructure? Regardless of the answer, if I want to keep my job, I guess I’ll have to fall in line.

93% Wrong, But Make It Efficient

Think this is getting added to the TriZetto algorithm? 😂

Centene denied 15% of standard Medicare Advantage prior auth requests in 2025.

Then 93% of the denials that were appealed got overturned.

But it was “one person at a time.” 😬

Centene also had the highest ACA denial rate listed at 25%.

Hard not to look at numbers like that and wonder whether the system is designed to get the right answer the first time, or just make people fight hard enough to get there.

Maybe the next efficiency initiative is getting rid of the members who keep appealing. 🤡

7 levels really

How can a company be financially viable when every level of management, which I looked up from a lowly tech to the ceo is 7 levels, which even my 1st level has only 8 employees. Industry standard is 18-25 (even at other industries) it’s the same, and above that 2-7 have 1-3 employees under them! The company cannot be financially responsible with so few reports under each layer, it is irresponsible to allow such a financial travesty to continue! Each layer should have 8-10 reports as a minimum! Go look at other industries including ATT or Frito Lay! Look it up it’s insane, this good ole boy days of butt kissing to get a made up position to check off one box are over, they expect the techs in the field to be super universal techs, then also should all levels of management. Let me clean house and pretend I am Elon Musk!

Dow, BASF, Shell, Toray, and others shut down inefficient chemical units

This wave of closures, primarily concentrated in Europe but also impacting the US, South Korea, and Japan, involves the permanent exit of substantial capacity for key products like ethylene, propylene, and plastics. The restructuring is driven by high operating costs, global overcapacity, and declining profit margins. These strategic adjustments aim to streamline operations and improve efficiency in response to evolving market dynamics.

Nothing Reorganizes Amidst Layoff Reports

Nothing has confirmed staff layoffs as part of a company reorganization, though it disputes the scale of reported job losses. Law function challenge

We have too many in-house counsels and law function leaders. I have seen 2-3 in house counsels in some internal meetings. They are tripping over themselves!

The function overall and within business lines has put in place “zipper model” org charts to align with similar hierarchy positions in other functions. This includes 1:1 law-to-business leader relationships. THAT IS NOT NEEDED post 2025!!!!! Other functions have rationalized cost, often serving multiple businesses (what we saw pre-2025). The zipper model is seen not just with the Law org chart, but also on how Law leaders expect to be advised by their senior counsels within a business. They want to be spoon fed, often to participate on an equal footing with other function colleagues.

Also, have you seen how Law function internal approval is sought? Tons of leaders are copied or addressed on emails. These are ornate emails that cut and paste from emails used in the business. It’s a who’s who of the function on these emails.

Law function work appears MOSTLY administrative and coordination in its nature. They are experts in keeping their function leadership aware of issues and managing the real work performed by others, including external counsel.

Can we make real and lasting change here?

Layers of dead weight

I can't help but wonder what most of the people in management positions actually do. They check in, they attend meetings, they send emails... What else? What do they actually produce? What value do they add? We have so many unnecessary layers that just slow things down and create more work for everyone else. It seems like we'd be so much more efficient with fewer managers.

This same thing happened to me, my cloud PC was removed, I got an email saying that I would be prioritized for a new laptop haven't heard anything since. My old laptop finally died and it took until my third "new" laptop on Win11 before it wouldn't stop crashing. Five days of work lost due to having to set up a new laptop each time. #Efficiency

RTO never made sense for any other reason than to get people to voluntarily quit

I know of no one that has ever been written up or chastised for not coming to the office though. If you are an individual contributor you did your job fine during COVID and there is virtually no reason for you to come into the office anymore. I mean the office is louder, more chaotic, food is as expensive as anywhere else. People are more likely to stand around and socialize than do actual work. The commute time of the individual gets baked into the work day more often than not because they only have so many hours before they need to take care of the household. It is abhorrently inefficient. To top it all off very few teams are fully located in one office. So you are effectively coming in to simply jump on conference calls with teams from all over the world literally. I can understand a once a week requirement just because we are social animals and there is genuine need for socialization with one another. Outside of once a week though it is strictly suboptimal working conditions. Also just imagine the savings if VZ truly sold off all its offices and cancelled all leases.

Perfectly stated, @jb+1kv47wr3d.

The malaise and bleeding will continue until (at the earliest) July 31, 2028

For those of you left behind, narcissist Leahy is going to hang on (at least) until the end of the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad. Good luck keeping the lights on while ducking the ever lowering deck of the CDW tractor!

Remember how the company lifecycle works:

  1. Founder/Engineer – Builds a great product (Krasny)
  2. Salesperson – Figures out how to sell it and grows revenue.
  3. Professional Manager (MBA) – Scales the organization and optimizes operations (Edwardson)
  4. Accountant/CFO – Focuses on efficiency, margins, and cost control (Richards)
  5. Lawyer – Tries to manage the lawsuits, regulations, and decline (Leahy) <== You are here

The snail continues

We integrating to become more efficient and reduce cost. Don’t matter if you like the decision but tomorrow Xerox supposed to move to Lex CRM platform (a date already slipped) and the date moved again. Jeez. Sales Strategy and Sales Operations (a dangerous d-mb and d-mber) didn’t get the memo from LP about speed I guess. All just want to get on but not helped by delay.

RPO = Redundant Process Overhead

Is it really the elephant in the room anymore? Is it a value add when you just create extra work to validate your existence and add work to teams that are already understaffed? We all know it’s to validate the existence of SB but this is just getting out of hand. Every week they recreate work that our teams are already doing. We have to pivot and adjust to keep up with this nonsense. WE don’t want your “help.” They create processes that aren’t efficient just to “look busy.” BTW - we have a procurement team that will manage POs from start to finish. In fact they do this for the ENTIRE company. I prefer to go to them! It’s simple. So why does SB want to hoard unnecessary work that creates a layer for everyone else? One guess - JM could never admit that her team doesn’t add any value. Instead we all have to drop what we are doing when they pull something new and inefficient out of their hat. They’ve run out of work and now they are digging for things. Get over it! Admit the work is fake and you are trying to take other peoples work to make yourself look “busy.” Insert eye roll here!

Sales KPI Tracking

How is it more efficient to have gone from using one tool.... Saleworks... to now using two tools DSA & Saleworks to track the same data? Also... the seperate data in DSA & Saleworks is less accurate or accessible than it was when it was solely in Saleworks. Make it make sense!!!!!!

Centra Cuts 90 Jobs Amid Restructuring

Polaris is a joke

Polaris efficiency is really just shifting of work to a different cost center. A few examples:

  1. I now spend time every pay period downloading my paystub and emailing it to myself. This used to be automated. With Lolaris I now take time to do it that I would otherwise be working.
  2. Time writing now takes multiple clicks and entering in archaic codes to get to the actual timesheet where in the former program it just opened up to the timesheet immediately.

Multiply these small time wasters by thousands of employees. Where is the productivity gain?

Rock the BOET?

Any insight on what's cooking?

Pretty clear that there is no need for Project Managers anymore, and that they are rapidly phased out, together with the Portfolio Manager level of directors.

Feels like the operations side will be on the front burner, with focus on finding areas that can be made more efficient (i.e., layoffs).
