MLGW Cuts 33 Jobs

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) ended 33 employment positions. This action was part of a company restructuring effort. Many affected employees felt blindsided by the decision. Thirty-one individuals reapplied for other company positions. Fifteen individuals secured new job placements.

They Don't Want You Back

If you’re one of the 13,000 employees who were laid off last year, you’re probably aware that the waiting period has ended and you’re now eligible to apply for roles within the company again.
That said, unless you have someone actively advocating for your return and pushing to bring you back in, I would encourage you to look forward rather than backward.
From what I’m seeing, especially on the wireline side of the business, the company’s focus appears to remain on restructuring and efficiency initiatives. They continue hiring leadership and management talent aimed at identifying operational improvements and reducing costs, which often translates into additional workforce reductions.
Experience and institutional knowledge alone may not be enough to secure a return. If you’ve developed new skills that align with where leadership is trying to take the business, your chances may improve. Otherwise, it may be more productive to pursue opportunities outside the organization.
It’s unlikely the company will bring people back into the same roles, at the same compensation levels, to perform work that was previously eliminated. At some point, it makes sense to shift energy toward building the next opportunity rather than waiting for the old one to return.

Will Meg be Transformative or a Caretaker placeholder at BP

Meg joined BP with a lot of fanfare from media and industry group. The employees appear to admire and hope that she is a change agent who will bring about stability, profitability and a sense of purpose to a fragmented and often troubled company.

Will Meg deliver the goods? The company appears to have the same initiatives as MA did and she stood up the same BL and MA actors..”leaders” when will surgical cuts start appearing when will teams be right sized?

Video Game Sector Experiences Significant Workforce Reductions

The global video game industry has recorded around 3,700 verified job losses in 2026. Total cuts likely exceed 4,000 when unverified reductions are included. The United States accounts for most layoffs, with Epic Games cutting about 1,000 roles. Bungie announced plans to lay off roughly 400 people. Ubisoft also cut around 680 jobs as part of a sweeping restructuring.

Why VSP?

This voluntary layoff program is probably just the first phase of a broader restructuring. Look at the tech companies, Amazon just did this prior to their massive layoff this year. Companies start with voluntary exits to reduce headcount quietly, lower severance costs, (they save SOOO much $$$) and see which roles can naturally be eliminated before moving to any targeted involuntary cuts. Too sum it up if you choose to leave its MUCH cheaper and looks better for them.

This is also why your metrics seem to be unatainable. They move the goalposts and the employees they want to get rid of they hold them to the letter of the metrics and put them on performance plans to get them out or they just quit out of frustration.

Leadership at this company uses rolling layoffs as just part of their general business practices. VSP does a lot of things, avoid WARN Act triggers, and reduce the negative optics of “another layoff,” all while encouraging high tenured, expensive employees to self select out.

This looks like they still need to get rid of expensive administrative resources but want to do it in a controlled, lower risk way the keeps the public and legal exposure to a minimum. All at the same time giving them the talking point "we'll they left on their own".

When Transparency Disappears

This is being presented as an individual choice, even though that choice may ultimately be denied if you decide to apply. The eligibility criteria are intentionally broad, which helps protect the company from age or demographic discrimination claims.
On some teams, 40 to 50% of employees received VSP eligibility notices. If everyone applied, it's obvious not everyone would be approved. Critical roles have already been identified, and those employees will almost certainly be denied.
If it feels like your PL is in the dark, it's because they are. Top Leadership are limiting what PLs know to avoid conflicting messages or anything that could be interpreted as a promise of job security. The problem is they haven't equipped PLs with meaningful talking points or guidance. That's a major failure.
PLs are stuck in the middle, taking pressure from both top leadership and their teams while still being expected to maintain productivity. They've been stripped of the transparency they need to lead their teams honestly and ethically.
Meanwhile, the psychological toll on employees is being largely ignored. Treating an entire workforce like rows on a spreadsheet during a restructuring of this magnitude feels cold, impersonal, and dehumanizing.

Time to say goodbye?

Like all of you, I have been anxiously evaluating my options. For ME personally, my VSP was pretty mid, but I'm early in my career... walking away from a good job and title with a little bit of cash isnt that bad. my big worry is that they boot me earlier than September 1... not a fan that the VSP numbers may "vary." We have no leverage in this bargain other than to stay to make it more difficult during restructuring. The risk of lay off is scary... a few departments have already restructured in the past two years, so its hard to imagine they will even accept my application... Not sure how to feel about the paranoia associated with applying and being added to some "list." If anything I think this is an attempt to shed as many high earners and potentially replace at lower salaries? Idk... I hope everyone is ok lol

I guess we can blame trump for this

Centene, a massive provider of government-sponsored healthcare, is navigating significant operational shifts under the Trump administration's health and budget policies. With major federal budget cuts to Medicaid and changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the insurer has experienced steep membership losses and is actively undergoing corporate restructuring.Centene & The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)Enrollment Drops: The expiration of enhanced ACA tax credits alongside Trump's budget packages has forced many consumers to confront higher premiums. Consequently, Centene—one of the nation's largest ACA marketplace insurers—lost over 2 million members, seeing its exchange enrollment drop from roughly 5.6 million to 3.6 million.Repricing and Layoffs: Because of sicker member pools and lost subsidies, Centene has been forced to reprice its health plans and offer companywide employee buyouts to cut overhead costs.

Barclay’s article today RE: Wakely data

https://www.tipranks.com/news/the-fly/centene-staff-buyouts-unliklely-related-to-wakely-data-says-barclays-thefly-news

Sarah’s message was essentially: ‘when membership shifts, the organization must shift too.’

Barclays may be right about Wakely. It still doesn’t explain the scale of the restructuring. We all know layoffs have been happening every month, largely in the shadows.

Maybe the leaders can’t find their as--s with both hands. In any event, they’re almost certainly not being truthful.

Company brags on profits, doesn't take care of employees

I'm sorry but how can a company brag on how profitable they are and do nothing for their employees but give them headaches with constant restructures and change indirection including incompetent management.
Tom Wilson touts inventors winning $5,000. What does that mean for the other employees? What a joke! This is not motivating. Been with the company over 15 years so sad to see the decline.

Layoffs are coming

Every acquisition brings layoffs, but this will be bad. Usually it's the acquired company that gets the brunt of it, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is used to get rid of as many people as possible on both sides under the cover of supposed redundancy. Prepare yourselves. This will not be pretty.

Bell Canada Initiates Major Workforce Reduction

Reorgs in DTO part of IDT

Looks like the DTO LT has been recently informed of the layoffs planned for later part of the year. The DTO LT themselves are in danger as there will be multiple mergers and hence job losses at LC and higher JG levels! Not complaining as I clearly see roles force fitted that need to go. But, it's the 3rd major restructuring in last 2 years that could have been actually done in one go during TOM.
Not sure when will this stop!

Any more insights from anyone about what's going to happen at mid and lower JG levels?

Dell SEC filing signals more workforce cuts as severance costs climb

“$DELL NEW SEC FILING SHOWS MORE LAYOFFS ARE COMING

In March we reported Dell quietly cut 11,000 jobs. The new 10-Q covers the 13 weeks after that. It sped up.

$227M spent on severance in 13 weeks, up 75% from a year ago. $242M is already set aside for severance not yet paid.”

The discussion stems from Dell’s latest Form 10-Q, filed June 9, which provides an update on the company’s financial performance and operational outlook. The filing shows Dell recorded $227 million in severance-related expenses during a recent 13-week period. The amount represents a sharp increase from the same period a year earlier.

The company also disclosed that an additional $242 million has been reserved for future severance payments, a figure that has fueled speculation that more workforce reductions could be ahead.

The filing follows reports that Dell eliminated roughly 11,000 positions earlier in the fiscal year as the technology giant continued efforts to streamline operations and reallocate resources toward faster-growing segments of its business.

Alongside the quarterly report, several insider-related filings were submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Forms 4 and 144, filed on June 8, disclosed changes in beneficial ownership and planned sales of restricted stock by company executives. Another Form 4 filed on June 9 by Silver Lake Group detailed a transaction involving Dell’s Class C common stock.

The workforce-related disclosures come as Dell experiences rapid growth in its artificial intelligence and infrastructure businesses. The company reported that revenue from its data center operations surged 181% year over year to $29 billion. Much of that growth was driven by demand for AI-focused servers, where revenue increased 757%, underscoring the industry’s ongoing investment in AI computing infrastructure.

READ: Dell shrinks workforce by 10% in fiscal 2026, annual reports show (March 17, 2026)

While the filing does not explicitly announce additional layoffs, the size of Dell’s severance spending and the substantial reserve set aside for future payments have prompted renewed scrutiny from investors and market observers. The company has not publicly detailed any new workforce reduction plans beyond the restructuring activities already disclosed.

As Dell continues to expand its AI and data center operations, the latest SEC filings showcase the balancing act many technology companies face as they invest aggressively in high-growth sectors while reshaping their workforce to support those priorities.

https://americanbazaaronline.com/2026/06/10/dell-sec-filing-signals-more-workforce-cuts-as-severance-costs-climb-482584/

Their intentions are clear, they want to replace as many people as possible with AI.

Summary of the layoff Cycle reported by AI

The multi-wave timeline clarifies the structural pattern Oracle follows:
August 31, 2025 Layoff: Accounted for as a $402 million localized surge in Q1 FY26 (reported September 2025).
March 31, 2026 Layoff: Accounted for as an $823 million localized surge in Q4 FY26 (reported yesterday, June 10, 2026).
The Result: The accumulation of these massive structural waves is what compiled the overall $2.1 billion restructuring footprint, leaving the remaining ~$980 million reserve sitting clean on the books to fund the upcoming FY2027 phases.

Layoffs at Global Payments are Imminent

Layoffs that were expected in June now appear to be slipping into July. My guess is the company is adding more people to the RIF list, which is not exactly surprising given Global Payments track record of recurring workforce reductions and the pressure to deliver the $600 million synergy target tied to the Worldpay deal.

Meanwhile, GPN stock is trading at its lowest level since the TSYS acquisition in 2019 and is down roughly 30% since Cameron Bready became CEO in 2023. Oh and the guy that Cameron put in charge to run the SMB business ($6 BILLION!) who has never run a business in his career? Yes, layoffs are definitely coming.

Remember when Cameron got on stage when he became CEO three years ago and told everyone his goal was to build a "best-in-class" culture? Three years later, many teams are doing the work of two and three people, while bracing for yet another round of cuts and the lack of leadership at the C-suite level is truly shocking.

When is the board going to realize that Cameron isn't fit to run the company? Until then, employees should expect even more uncertainty, more restructuring, and more layoffs. So GPN employees listen up, things are only going to get worse so if you get offered a package next month, be grateful, and RUN as fast as you can.

In the meantime, #BringSloanBack!
