The UK problem nobody is talking about

Anyone else seeing what’s happening in the UK?

Good people are leaving, particularly women, and others seem completely burnt out. Yet we still hear all the usual talk about diversity, inclusion and people being our biggest asset.

Since the leadership change, the culture feels completely different. There seems to be a leadership style being imposed that just doesn’t translate well to the UK market or the way teams here have historically operated.

More pressure, more workload, questionable appointments and everything coming back to the numbers. People can deliver what’s asked of them and still somehow be told they need to improve.

And it’s not just employees noticing the change. Some partners and customers are starting to see the disconnect too, which should be a much bigger concern for the business.

NetApp UK used to have a great reputation and culture. It’s sad watching that disappear.

Project unity celebration

Just seen there was a celebration of project unity in the UK with Shannon Bell. I am not sure this migration could have been anymore of a sh-t show. I previously spent 30% of my week chasing approvals (that in 4 years I have never not had one approved or declined for my error). I now spend 95% of my week on approvals, but yeah let's celebrate the sh-t show, senior people should lose their jobs for this incompetence.

Has anyone who was laid off from Citi and received a redundancy/severance package later rejoined the company?

Has anyone who was laid off from Citi and received a redundancy/severance package later rejoined the company?

I’m trying to understand whether there is a formal waiting period before someone can be rehired, particularly where the exit package included severance pay, payment in lieu of notice, or other redundancy compensation.

Does the restriction vary depending on whether the person returns as a permanent employee, contractor, or consultant? Also, is the waiting period counted from the last working day, the official termination date, or the end of the PILON period?

Any recent experience from the UK or EMEA would be helpful.

UK, Ireland, Canada

In the All Hands yesterday Niraj confirmed expansion of physical stores to the UK. They're actively seeking out their first location.

He also stated that they are committed to UK, Ireland and Canada with a strengthening market share in those regions.

Obviously there are no guarantees in business but it was a nice rebuke of that "Something Big Brewing" poster on 15th June.

Something big brewing

I am hearing, atleast from few different levels that they are planning to do mass layoff in Ireland and maybe UK, and eventually exit UK like Germany..not rumors but actual talks. Can't share where and who coz i might get into trouble.

I mean I'm already seeing signs for UK, decreasing headcount each year, only bit up due to German relocation, not much profit and announcements of Canada physical store plans and aggressive US stores plans- they would need money and UK might be bleeding more money and resources.

I would be very proactive to look for jobs given perfect storm brewing.

BP needs to to leave the UK while its easy.

No news in the UK

There has been nothing about layoffs in the UK yet, and I have heard nothing on the grapevine about anything in EMEA. It has NOT started.

Don't get me wrong, I want it to start, and I want to be on the list. Happy to take some cash and run.

I'm sure the storm is coming, but it is not here yet.

Any new business in the UK?

Was fortunate to get VR last year after 10 years of no pay rises and broken promises. The annual drudge of appraisals, getting feedback, self evaluation etc was mind numbing, knowing nothing would ever come out of it. My manager was worse than useless. A total waste of time who blagged and lied his way year after year. I know why people stay as it’s a cushy number and no one cares. Projects drag on and it’s amazing how clients put up with the incompetence. I’m just interested to know what actual accounts are still going in the UK. Not much on here is posted but in the last few town halls I attended there was always a ‘positive pipeline’ so just curious as to what current employees are actually working on - or more pertinent what codes are you booking time to for doing next to nothing? My last account was Defra which died a slow and painful death!
