How’s your store treating you!?

Just curious how other store managers supported their teams during the holiday season. Our location did not receive any form of acknowledgment — not even a simple holiday greeting. There were no small gestures of appreciation such as candy, food, or a thank-you, despite the team working extremely hard throughout the busiest month of the year.

Many associates felt overworked and under-appreciated after consistently going above and beyond during the holiday rush. While retail is understood to be demanding, basic human decency and acknowledgment should still be expected in any workplace.

After many years in retail, this level of disregard is disappointing and concerning. The lack of appreciation has significantly impacted morale and reflects a larger issue with leadership and company culture.

For some, this holiday season has solidified the decision that it will be their last Christmas with Macy’s.

I can’t wait for the holiday season to be over

I’m close to a breaking point and more exhausted than I’ve ever been. After this rush, it will just turn into anxiety about the job, the future of the store, and what happens next. I badly need real rest, and I doubt I’ll get any. I hope the rest of you are doing better. This time of year is absolutely brutal.

My store has been very busy, and we’ve been run off our feet. Partly that’s due to incompetent management, but there’s also been a lot of customer traffic. I’m hearing that not all stores have been this crowded. I’m curious to see what the final holiday numbers look like. I hope they’re good - it might improve our chances of keeping our jobs.

After working at Nordstrom ...

... you'll always wear nice shoes. Sure, it may be a business-casual environment, but if you can't bother to wear decent shoes, you're a slob and a loser. I find that I have nothing but contempt for people who wear cr-ppy shoes to work. I knew this before, but Nordstrom confirmed and reinforced it with me.

A sharp pair of loafers can spiff up a pair of jeans. Add a collared shirt, and you look pretty good in this shabby world. Complete the look with a jacket, people will think you are interviewing. But shoes are the foundation. Good shoes are essential.

It wouldn’t be surprising. Someone mentioned another 300 shutting down next year, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the final number ends up even higher. What’s really stopping them from shutting everything down and switching fully to the non-corp model? Either way, the uncertainty and anxiety just keep dragging on.

Dollar General and Family Dollar say they offer low prices, but inspectors keep finding that a lot of items ring up higher at the register than the shelf price, especially in poorer and rural communities where people do not have many other places to shop. Since 2022, thousands of their stores have failed price accuracy inspections, sometimes with huge error rates, and many are repeat offenders. Some states have sued and reached settlements, but fines are often small compared with profits, and in a lot of states there is barely any enforcement at all.

Inside the stores, prices in the computer change automatically while workers, who are usually stretched thin and dealing with stocking, cleaning and the register, cannot keep up with switching shelf tags. Former employees say that is the main reason for the mismatches and some even claim fake sale signs are used to make normal prices look like discounts. The people paying the price are shoppers on tight budgets who may not notice a few extra dollars here and there or cannot afford to travel to another store. The companies say they care about accuracy and fix errors when they are told, but the pattern across states, fines and lawsuits shows a system that keeps overcharging the very customers it claims to help.

Using COR as a crutch

So we get it, vader wants COR gone, bla bla bla, AR everything. So why not just close em all ? I mean, all we do is fix D2D scams and turn away people who wanna return their modems as directed by cust care. With unattainable numbers crammed down our throats, AR retailers popping up all around the COR locations - why keep the COR open ? Just to make people lives miserable ? We will not hit our numbers - we spend all our time fixing what YOU - the management - the monster YOU created - so why not just put a fork in it ?

Macys Clearance Store

I like this concept and I noticed that they are starting to do this at some locations. I only know of one and that’s the Brunswick Square store over by New Jersey. Interesting and didn’t expect this at all, but I’ve always thought they should do this. Keep the clearance and messy disorganized stuff out of the mainline stores and start doing this. Are they going to expand this concept or does anyone know what’s going on here?
