Essendant and CyraCom Layoffs in Houston (2025)

Hundreds of layoffs are coming to Houston as two major companies downsize their local operations.

CyraCom International, a remote interpretation provider recently acquired by Propio, will close its Houston facility and eliminate 355 jobs beginning December 1. The cuts include interpreters in Spanish, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Arabic and several other languages. CyraCom’s Arizona office will also see about 500 jobs cut as part of the restructuring.

Essendant Management Services, a distribution company, has also announced plans to cut 92 jobs in Houston this November due to business downsizing.

These announcements come after recent WARN Act filings revealed nearly 1,900 layoffs statewide from August through October, with Houston shouldering most of the impact. Both CyraCom and Essendant have not yet provided further comment.

300+ Laif Off

banner just filed notice that 351 workers in colorado are getting cut by nov 5. this came through a state warn filing and yeah... it’s a big hit.

they’re closing a freestanding ER & Urgent Care in Greeley on that same date. banner has over 3,000 staff in northern colorado and over 60K nationwide, so big news...

the affected will get transition help, like priority for other open roles in the system, career counseling, and support services.

at the same time banner is rolling out what they call a multi-year investment plan to reshape their footprint in the region. that includes buying up a primary care network and turning the mckee medical center in loveland into a specialty hospital.

CEO for colorado hospitals said the changes are because of "community demand" whatever that means for him. ER volumes at mckee have dropped 4 years in a row, they’re only using 25% of the beds, and 90% percent of surgeries there are already outpatient.

And, it'll not stop here

Revvity Layoffs

Revvity Inc., a biomanufacturing company, is closing its South End facility in Boston and laying off all 74 employees at the site. The layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with a WARN notice filed with the state of Massachusetts indicating the layoffs will occur between November 1, 2025, and August 31, 2028.

The company, headquartered in Waltham, has not given a specific reason for the closure. This move follows a period of business realignment and cost management for the company, which recently lowered its outlook due to policy changes in China.

90 day notice for Dec 2 2025 layoff

At least 100 employees received notice on September 2nd giving them 90 days until their December 2nd termination.

My manager called me into a 9:00 a.m. meeting and said "I and requires you read to you the following statement...". The notice was legalistic and had no positive message (like perhaps You haven't done anything actionable). He had no other details for me and no specifics about severance. He said I would receive an official document within 24 hours and I received that in the evening.

Opportunity is given to apply for jobs internally, but I have much better opportunities outside and BSC just isn't a great place to work. The usual job search consulting and training is available through the so-called "talent bridge".

Severance information was listed in the document that I received and all full-time non-manager employees will receive two weeks severance plus one additional week for every complete year of service. It appears we don't get any portion of our performance bonuses like TIP because the grant date is after termination.

So a meager severance package and a dreary 90 day notice while they try to get some transition how do I say and hope that we go away at zero cost. If we leave prior to termination date we get no severance and we lose TIP bonus regardless. Leaving people at risk for being jobless and short of funds right before Christmas.

That's a cold corporate kiss-off. They definitely care more about savings than treating people fairly.

Prior to this jobs downturn for having I would have had my pickup jobs. I still am not too concerned but can't be sure. We were told in a training bridge overview session that They recommend spending 30% of our job time on training and job search. I think they'll be lucky and will say thank you if I give half. The internal corporate optics are not good when they push on people already striped of their financial stability and professional dignity.

The movie Office Space tells us everything we need to know about how to use the little power we have to not become victims of corporate greed and cruelty. Practice Quiet-Quitting and "Not Missing Work".

No layoffs before November

At least judging by the fact that no WARN has been filed yet. That gives us still more time to put things in order and try to find something else, if there’s anyone left who hasn’t already been working hard on alternatives. The job market is terrible right now, yes, but there are always options, especially if you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone. The only truly useless thing in this drawn-out drama is to sit around worrying and panicking.

Tesla Ends Contractor Agreement at Giga Texas, 82 Workers Laid Off

Tesla has unexpectedly ended its contract with MPW Industrial Services Inc. at Gigafactory Texas, leading to the layoff of 82 workers who supported operations at the Austin facility.

According to a #WARN notice filed with the #Texas Workforce Commission on August 27, 2025, the terminations will take effect September 1. The cuts affect 61 technicians, 7 team leads, 7 supervisors, and 7 managers. The workers are not union-represented and have no bumping rights.

MPW, an Ohio-based industrial services provider, specializes in cleaning and facility management. The layoffs are directly tied to the sudden termination of Tesla’s contract.

This comes against the backdrop of Tesla’s broader #workforce reductions. In April 2024, the company laid off over 2,000 employees in Austin. Since then, Tesla’s sales have declined, and while a temporary Q3 boost is expected due to expiring tax credits, analysts forecast further sales drops in late 2025 and early 2026.

Industry watchers suggest this #contractors cut could be a precursor to more layoffs, with Tesla historically starting with outside partners before reducing internal headcount. Some speculate the move is tied to cost-cutting and production slowdowns to avoid oversupply.

Electrek’s analysis warns that Tesla may be on the verge of another wave of staff reductions in the US, particularly as EV demand softens. While other factors could explain the contract termination, the timing aligns with the company’s need to adjust ahead of a potential downturn.

Law Firm investigating

Cisco announces layoffs days after CEO said it won’t cut jobs in favor of AI

Law firm ‘investigating’ layoffs over alleged notice discrepancy, while Cisco brings in a new channel partner chief

Cisco plans to cut more than 150 employees as part of a new round of layoffs, with the cuts coming days after CEO Chuck Robbins said the company would not be slicing jobs in favor of AI.

The latest cuts include 157 employees at various locations in California. The majority of the cuts are are targeted at Cisco's Milpitas campus, with 64 roles being cut at its site in San Francisco. Staff at its former Redwood City headquarters and some roles at its site in Pleasanton are also set for elimination.

A plethora of roles are set to be axed, including juniors as well as executives with VP titles, among those facing layoffs, according to reports.

News of the layoffs comes after Robbins said he didn’t see the networking giant using AI as an excuse to reduce headcount.

"I don't want to get rid of a bunch of people right now," the CEO told CNBC, instead suggesting he wants the company’s engineers to “innovate faster and be more productive.”

AI was among the reasons Cisco cited for cutting 7% of its workforce last August, a decision CFO Scott Herren suggested at the time was more akin to “a reallocation versus a headcount savings.”

Those cuts followed a 5% reduction of Cisco’s global workforce in February 2024, a restructuring move the vendor suggested at the time would maximize shareholder returns.

Did Cisco break the law?
Its latest round of layoffs is, however, being probed by a law firm over claims the company could have violated U.S. labor laws.

Chicago-based law firm Strauss Borrelli said it was looking into layoffs at the networking giant, suggesting Cisco employees facing layoffs may be owed 60 days of severance pay and benefits.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, U.S. employers are required to provide 60 days' notice before mass layoffs. The law firm is investigating whether a WARN Notice was filed with the state of California at least 60 days before the mid-October job eliminations, as affected staff were reportedly only notified on August 13 – despite the dates appearing to line up.

“We are investigating whether Cisco failed to provide at least 60 days’ notice before laying off 157 employees and, therefore, violated the WARN Act,” the law firm said in a statement.

Cisco last week reported earnings that saw it bring in $800 million in AI-related revenues for the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2025, which pushed its full fiscal-year AI-related haul to $2.1 billion.

Robbins told investors that largely all of its AI growth was coming from hyperscaler customers, with two-thirds of AI-related orders tied to Cisco systems, with the remaining one-third tied to its optics portfolio.

Can someone explain WARN act timing?

The Mercury News reported two WARN act filings by Oracle - disclosed on August 13, filed again on August 14.

"Oracle America is cutting 101 positions in Santa Clara, the company revealed in a WARN notice filed with the EDD on Aug. 14. These staffing reductions come on the heels of a disclosure by Oracle on Aug. 13 that it had decided to cut 188 jobs, consisting of a loss of 143 positions in Redwood City and 45 in Pleasanton."

Does this mean that the disclosure layoffs (Aug 13) already happened but the filed (Aug 14) layoffs have up to 60 days to execute?

Tech giant lays off 143 workers from former Bay Area headquarters

https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/oracle-tech-giant-layoffs-headquarters-20819830.php

The tech company announced the cuts on Wednesday in WARN documents, as is generally required in the event of mass layoffs. One lists 45 layoffs at the company’s Pleaston campus; the other lists 143 at its former headquarters in Redwood City.

Software developers — at various levels of seniority — are being hit hard, according to the WARN notices. Within the category, six vice presidents are losing their jobs in Redwood City, plus 25 director- and manager-level employees and more than 60 lower-level developers.

The documents say that workers were notified on or before Wednesday and will officially leave the roles in mid-October. The WARN Act requires employers to give workers 60 days notice before a layoff, but tech companies tend to just end their laid-off workers’ jobs immediately and give them 60 days of pay.

Oracle did not immediately respond to SFGATE’s questions about the reason for the cuts and what severance pay these workers might receive. But Bloomberg reported Wednesday that the company was cutting staff from its massive cloud computing unit, including more than 150 workers in Seattle, so it’s likely that the Bay Area cuts were also from that group.

The company is based in Austin but, according to a 2024 statement from co-founder Larry Ellison, it will be moving its headquarters again, to Nashville. Official filings still say Austin.

August Layoffs- Be Ready

We are in for another round of layoffs for August.
The company has been slowing spreading them out so they don’t have to legally inform shareholder and follow the WARN act.
They are also making a mandatory Return to Office FULL TIME for 5 days a week. Anyone who doesn’t comply will be fired without severance package.
The next wave I’m also hearing, is those that don’t live near an office will eventually be told they have to relocate to a state/ location where an office is or they will be fired/ let go. It’s a way for them to save more money not having to pay out for severance packages.
With the recent departure of Chris W, it’s only a matter of time the new Customer Experience Officer / Sales Officer Chance replaces every single sales manager with the Street and Fusion leadership.
There are rumors going around that all sales positions will lose benefits and go to 1099 commission only.

You have been warned.

some info on the last cut, left here for posterity.

the 6,000 job cuts will take years to implement, probably until 2028, reductions happening in phases and by department.

dpt heads are given budget cut targets, this translates into headcount cuts, and then negotiate internally on who to cut and when. notifications can be staggered, and different dpts are on different schedules for cuts...

early rounds will target experienced and highly compensated staff...

the potential later re-hiring at lower levels or on contracts.

some sites may be closed and infrastructure may be reducd.

commercial teams are suspected to be next to be hit, with a WARN notice filed for rahway (that is linked below) affecting 58 people in 11/2025 (as part of the first round).....

contractors are already being let go, nobody is surprised. some are not being renewed, also no surprise...

the reduction goal is ~8%, and attrition will account for some cuts, the weak job market means fewer voluntary dptrs.

comms from mgmt is bad bad...

Southwest Key Programs Layoffs

Nearly 1,300 employees of Austin-based Southwest Key Programs will lose their jobs in early October after the federal government ended the nonprofit’s refugee housing contracts amid a long-running abuse scandal. Southwest Key, the largest U.S. operator of shelters for unaccompanied migrant children, had been accused in a now-dropped 2024 Justice Department lawsuit of widespread s-xual abuse at its facilities between 2015 and 2023. Although the case was unexpectedly dismissed in March, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services had already moved all children out of its shelters and pledged to end its contracts. The layoffs, confirmed through mass notices filed with the Texas Workforce Commission on July 31 and August 6, will hit facilities in Austin, El Paso, Los Fresnos, San Benito, Canutillo, McAllen, Weslaco, Channelview, and multiple locations in Houston and Brownsville. Founded in 1987, Southwest Key provides youth and family services, juvenile justice programs, and workforce development, but its shelter operations for migrant children were its most high-profile — and controversial — function. The nonprofit says it is working with federal partners to ensure an orderly transition and praised its staff for their professionalism and compassion.

Cold Chain Technologies Layoffs / Massachusetts

Franklin-based Cold Chain Technologies, a manufacturer of specialized thermal packaging for life sciences and other industries, will permanently end manufacturing at its Massachusetts headquarters this fall and lay off 82 employees between October 1 and year-end, according to a state WARN notice. The company will shift production from its Franklin facility at 135 Constitution Blvd. to other U.S. sites in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas, while retaining some staff locally for unspecified “certain operations.” Cold Chain Technologies also provides digital shipment monitoring services and works with airlines and freight companies. In addition to its Franklin global headquarters, it operates facilities in multiple U.S. states and internationally in the Netherlands, Singapore, Panama, Uruguay, and Brazil.

Marathon Staffing / SAC

Boston-based Marathon Staffing Solutions Inc. has announced it will permanently lay off 71 employees in Northern California on November 7, 2025, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing. The cuts include 62 positions in West Sacramento, with the remaining layoffs affecting other parts of the Sacramento Valley.

MINI WARK FOR WA

Washington State has adopted a "mini-WARN Act," joining other states with laws that require advance notice for certain layoffs. The piece falls under Employment Law & Compliance and is aimed at HR professionals needing to stay informed about evolving state-level labor regulations. It highlights the growing trend of state-level protections for workers, similar to the federal WARN Act, and indicates that employers in Washington will now have to meet specific notice requirements before conducting large-scale layoffs.

New WARN notice submitted in Illinois

USA Today reported that on August 6, 2025, a company that was born in Illinois had filed chapter 11 bankruptcy for the 2nd time in seven years. Now, the Illinois Work Net Center site shows there is a new WARN notice submitted to the state warning of a mass layoff affecting 46 workers at Claire's - Hoffman Estates corporate headquarters located at 2400 W Central Road in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The layoffs are reported to be effective immediately and retroactive to August 4, 2025.

  • Globe Motors, a manufacturing facility in Dothan, Alabama owned by Allied Motion, is set to lay off 73 of its roughly 200 employees.
  • The reduction, which affects more than a third of the team, will take effect on July 25. This comes from a #WARN notice submitted on May 27.
  • Under the federal WARN Act, companies must give 60 days’ notice for mass layoffs. In this case, the notice was filed 59 days in advance.
  • Allied Motion has not offered a reason or responded to repeated requests for comment.
  • Globe Motors manufactures specialty motors. It’s unclear at this stage how the layoffs will affect operations.
