Layoff occurs at least monthly

I know some people got laid off last month. I got laid off today. My official termination date is 6/3, so they gave me two weeks' notice. I will receive my severance pay twice a month, just like my paycheck, and three months of COBRA. I have been with FIS for over 32 years, so it's about time to retire. I knew the writing was on the wall after they transferred me to a new group last September and then shut down the project I was working on. It's too bad, as I enjoy working on that project. They said they will still contribute to my 401K in February next year. At least I got my severance pay, unlike the poor guys who got rebadged.

Healthcare after layoff

ACA (Obamacare) is most expensive. The Citi retirement plan is second and ironically COBRA is cheapest (at $2,100 per month for my wife and I).

I will turn 65 during the 18 month COBRA period. So, I thinking that is the best option (COBRA then Medicare for me). Then ACA for my wife until she turns 65 in 3 years.

I'm just wondering what others have done or what your thoughts are. Thanks

EXIT DATE, PACKAGE AND INTERNAL JOBS LISTINGS

As CR stated, 75% of LR will be re-hired where needs are. True or baloney? Everyone getting four months salary with benefits, then COBRA? Exit date set to July 14?

Did team leaders announce send off and good luck meetings? Or a nice kick in rear, and message - have a nice day….

Just curious about something

I saw the news about cuts today and it got me wondering. Back in 2022 when Cisco let me go, they gave 60 days in lieu pay, another 60 days severance, PTO cashed out, and four months of COBRA. Does anyone know if the packages are still similar now or have they changed over the years? Just curious how it compares.

Health insurance

What's the situation here when you're laid off? I have a kid who needs regular prescriptions and I can't afford to lose coverage. When I was let go from my old job, COBRA let me stay on the company plan but I was paying the full premium plus two percent, which was not cheap. I'm hoping there's a better option here.

Be careful

Got my cobra estimate retiring early it’s like $1200 a month. Better check your fiqures before you pull the trigger on retiring early. It’s an eye opener!!
Bumping this so folks don't miss it. Too many are so focused on leaving as soon as possible (not that I blame anybody) that things like this get overlooked.

Severance info

Severance is based on a formula. The formula takes into account your years of service and your grade level. The maximum amount of weeks is capped for each of the grades. For example, a grade 40 with 10-14 years of service will get 20
Weeks of severance. Additionally, to get around WARN notice requirements, they may set your actual termination date into the future(and you will get paid regularly until that date). Thy will also pay your benefits via COBRA for 6 months . While getting laid off su-ks, the package is usually fairly generous

Thought this might be useful ahead of layoffs.

Franklin Templeton employees get no information prior to layoff date

Their layoff date is 04/27/2026, next Monday. Beyond that, no information has been provided to employees including managers about what will happen next Monday. The last calls will be transferred back to FT, the employees have been told that they will work on finalizing any outstanding work items.

Details of severance? Not yet. Any word about COBRA? Not yet. Will Monday be a full day? Probably not, but why give employees being laid off anything that might allow them to plan, such as when last checks will be issued, when will severance checks be issued. They still have a whole week to figure it out. Financial obligations of employees still need to be met, regardless.

Reading the Severance Policy from the employee handbook is not the same as confirmation from FIS for each employee. Let's keep the tension wound up until the last possible second!

United Furniture Industries Lays Off Thousands By Text

United Furniture Industries (UFI) terminated nearly 2,700 employees without warning. Workers received late-night text messages informing them of immediate job loss. The company cited "unforeseen business circumstances" for the decision. Layoffs were permanent, and benefits were cut without COBRA continuation. A federal lawsuit alleges a WARN Act violation.

Mentally drained

Hi all,
I’m mentally drained at Wells Fargo. My manager has been pushing a “performance” issue that feels completely unfair (I’d rather not get into the details on that). Today I straight-up told my boss I’m exhausted from the constant stress and asked if they could just lay me off instead of firing me for performance.
Quick questions:
• If fired how good is COBRA insurance? Or does it offer?
• Can I still get unemployment on a performance termination?
• Do they pay out remaining vacation days either way?

Any advice on handling this or what others did? I need some mental relief before jumping to another job.
Thanks!

Watch out for Cobra billing for those who took VRP

For anyone who reads these posts and took the VRP, if you cancel Cobra because you found other coverage, watch your bank account. They took the money from my account for the monthly Cobra bill AFTER I terminated coverage. I had received an email saying the automatic debit was terminated, but I just had a funny feeling that Cigna would take the money anyway, and they did. I called the customer service center, and she put in a ticket to get it refunded, but it makes me so mad. That's a house payment. Cigna wants to keep the money to earn the interest, so I won't get refunded for 14 days! Just watch out.

Layoff protocols

You’re informed by manager in 1:1 or a VP/Director in group con call

The manager/VP marks it complete in the APEX app

The system, slack & email deactivation kicks off by the APEX app.

You’ll receive an email at your personal Email with follow up

You’ll Docusign the termination contract to receive the severance.

Benefits terminate immediately. You’ll have the COBRA option to continue coverage later retroactively to the day after termination date.

Good luck

Severance Details - Facts only pls

Let help each other navigate through these troubled times instead of spreading rumors or hate.
If you can please share severance facts anonymously.
1) Does Nike accelerate vesting for all unvested RSUs ? How about options ?
2) Does Nike provide existing medical coverage during the two months on payroll ?
3) After those two months does severance include subsidized cobra coverage only ?

Severance in the US

Severance packages in the US have been consistent over the years: 2-4 weeks plus 1 week for every year of service, capped at 26 weeks. Plus one free month of cobra.

Garden leave was a new benefit in 2025, which kept the dejobbed on payroll and benefits for a few weeks. No idea if that was a one off or if it will become standard.

Putting this up, useful info. Found here: @bj+1kkhyebqg

How many people laid off by Optum last year have had a health crisis while no longer insured?

UnitedHealth Group’s slogan is: “Helping people live healthier lives.”

I lost my job at Optum in 2025 and remain unemployed. As a result, I also lost my health insurance. I cannot afford COBRA, and I have a serious health condition that is currently going untreated. Each month I am forced to choose between paying rent or paying for heathcare coverage.

Without treatment, my condition will eventually become terminal.

THANK YOU OPTUM FOR NOT CARING!

US COBRA benefits

I am "offboarding" this wonderful place in the US.

Of course, the links to the offboarding processes do not work or time out.

All I really care about is COBRA (they can take their surveys and shove them).

Has anyone that has recently ejected priced US High deductible family COBRA plans?

If so, what was the cost?

Question about insurance coverage

My last day of non-working notice period is on Friday..I resigned and am going elsewhere and my notice period was converted to non-working notice with pay and benefits intact through this Friday. There is a 5 day gap with when I start with the new company and will be on their insurance from Day 1. Will Citi's insurance coverage expire at midnight on Friday or does it carry forward till the end of the month?

TIA

And to all those looking to get out of here - keep at it. Applying and activating network. It might take a while (took me nearly a year) but keep up the spirit, don't feel dejected if rejected even after multiple interview rounds..dust yourself and pick up again. The market is tough with layoff's. Keep the faith

Cobra coverage

What happened to Crown continuing coverage throughout the severance period? I just filled out the continuation form and Crown is paying $38 and I am paying $2000 per month. This is my 3rd lay off in 25 years in the industry, its never been done with less respect and support than what Crown has shown. I will be surprised if the severance really shows up and I have no faith in the bonus actually being paid out. What do you expect from a company that allows unlimited drinks on the cooperate card?

Termination due to sales/consulting quota not met

Question: HR and manager did read my termination blurb. During the call announce they will pay severance which appears to cover about 3 months of salary. Great since I was about to leave anyway to join a startup.
I imagine there is no stock acceleration typically offered correct?
Question:
I recall something about Cobra. Not sure I would need to pay premiums. Not interested in that since I can join wife excellent medical plan instead.

COBRA

Just an FYI regarding COBRA. For reference, I am a 12/19 off payroll ex-VZ'er. I called Net Benefits when I received the "confusing letter" last week about COBRA benefits. The letter is a standard notice that employers are required to send out to employees who are let go. I asked if I needed to "sign up" for COBRA as reflected in the Net Benefits system and was advised that I did not as I was already auto-enrolled since VZ is paying for COBRA as part of the severance.
What I did find out, however, is that at the end of time period that COBRA is covered by VZ (mine is 6 months), COBRA will automatically renew if you don't contact them to cancel it and they will start send you bills for the monthly cost of the COBRA coverage. So you may want to put a reminder in your calendar to cancel if you don't plan on paying the hefty COBRA fees after VZ stops covering the costs.
