RTO: No One is Safe: Yes, You with the Accommodation

RTO updates are causing a lot of anxiety — especially for FT telecommuters. Signs definitely point to a stricter in-office push.

Worth noting: if you have an ADA accommodation (like ADD/ADHD), the in-office FAQ on The Source suggests they’ll “accommodate” by seating you somewhere less distracting and giving you noise-cancelling headphones — not by keeping you remote.

Some exceptions may exist, but don’t count on it. Remote workers and those with accommodations should both be concerned.

Started lexapro until new role available

I’m trying to quit but can’t find anything and have kids to feed. I’ve been applying daily but the anxiety and depression from work daily is ki-ling my drive. I literally got divorced year 3 working here because it was affecting our romance and I turned quite mean to my spouse just being accountable. I’ve lost everything to this job. Please share tips on how to apply if anyone got lucky enough to leave. I cry in the bathroom weekly. This is no way to live, survival mode.

Anxious

This is my first time going through a potential layoff, and I’m really struggling with the uncertainty. Ever since we heard the news , I’ve been anxious nonstop — it’s hard to , join calls, or think about much else.

How are you coping or distracting yourself ?

Encouragement

I know there are a lot of people at target who have worked there many years, and perhaps even their whole career since college.

I don’t know how I’ll be impacted next week but I am new enough to target to know this sh-t happens and it su-ks for a while and can be tough to find your footing. But, there really is good stuff waiting for you outside of the company. I know there is for me if I am part of the group that goes.

I left a really good, fulfilling job when I was recruited to target and I’ve just been kind of observing things crumble around me since I joined 2.5 years ago at a fairly consistent clip basically since day one. That’s been hard and disillusioning.

And, it’s hard not to get caught up thinking catastrophically. For me, it’s easy to spiral over the shitstorm of this administration and the utter callousness of our national leadership. It makes me worry about the economy and the fact that people are not okay right now. It’s easy to spiral over what AI means for the future of work and the fact that CEOs and rich fu--s the world over will stop at nothing to disrupt people’s lives in the name of profit.

I try to remember that the pendulum will swing back on politics. It’ll be painful in the meantime but it’ll shift. And the future of work will look differently. I’m not sure what that will mean for me or my future children or grandchildren. But I try to remain hopeful when reminded that recent human history has gone through a number of these sea-changes, and we persist.

Target is a company that makes money from making a bunch of sh-t we don’t even need. It’s good to have a job and we don’t deserve this. I’m glad I have a job at Target, but a job is a job, and there is truly more to life and other ways to make a livelihood.

Don’t let Target’s bullsh-t and the fact that a bunch of overpaid, unseasoned, remarkably average corporate losers made a consistent series of poor decisions over multiple quarters define you or your worth.

Carcass of a Legacy Titan

After watching our numbers rolling in for Q3, the “WTF” exit survey, impending lay offs, and somber mood in my region, I can’t continue to sit here and smile like an id--t. Folks, we’re sitting in a rotten carcass being picked stripped off any value left before being thrown into the incinerator. Hertz is done. Don’t wait to get your notice. Time to get off our chairs and get employment where the business is actually bringing customers and profits.

Impact of AI at SAS and its workers in the next few years

What will be the impact at SAS with AI in the coming years? Are you worried?

Calacanis warned: "Before 2030 you’re going to see Amazon, which has massively invested in [AI], replace all factory workers and all drivers … It will be 100% robotic, which means all of those workers are going away. Every Amazon worker. UPS, gone. FedEx, gone.”

Any updates?

So far, it seems like folks in Ireland have been having a rough week. Nothing yet here, as far as I can tell. The newest rumor is that the big round might happen in the second half of November.

I honestly don’t know what to think anymore. This whole ordeal - the escalating rumors, the lack of official communication, and the high likelihood of layoffs, whether large or not - is making me really, really stressed and exhausted.

Will they make any last-minute changes to severance?

Is that something that could happen? My mind keeps coming up with all the worst possible scenarios, and that is the one I cannot stop thinking about right now. It actually makes a bit of sense if the goal is to cut costs, since cutting payouts for those leaving would fit that goal. Please, someone tell me this has never happened.

why do they always wait so long to do it?

My question is with all these layoffs - they always know it’s going to happen and have the lists so early. Why does management and execs always wait till a certain day to make the cuts? Why not just do it as soon as possible to avoid all this stress and anxiety for everyone with a date looming over? It really pi---s me off I’ve been through this so many times and it’s really like we’re all numbers on a sheet or a dollar amount not people with lives and families to take care of

How long were you tortured for before you were WFRd

I have a very obvious target at my back. Seems like they are giving me time to find something else BUT I will NOT leave without the package!

How long do I have left before I’m WFRd?

How long did you wait?

Also, I could pull the reverse card and go on another burnout leave but at this stage I wouldn’t mind the package and unemployment for a bit.

Pay and Benefits - Savings and Retirement site weird alert..

Anyone else log into their savings and retirement summary page lately?

I see an alert/info icon that says “Need to initiate a 401(k) rollover to another company? If you are looking to withdraw your savings, you may want to consider rolling it directly into another eligible employer plan or an individual retirement account (IRA). You can learn more here or request a rollover if you are ready.”

Certainly making me more nervous. Is this a sign? Anyone else see this when you log into your benefits?

My sleep pattern is completely messed up

Is anyone actually sleeping normally with all of this going on? I’m almost at the point where I just want it to happen tomorrow, whether I’m laid off or not, just so I can move on. This whole situation is taking a toll on my mental health, and that’s starting to spill over into my physical health too. I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way.

Let’s look at this objectively:

  1. Given the mix of signals: yes, there is a non‐trivial chance something will happen (at least in some business units).
  2. No, the rumor of an across-the-board, massive layoff next Tuesday is not firmly substantiated. It’s best treated as a possibility being promoted by this contributors who are scared or repeating rumors, not a certainty.
  3. So if we were to assign rough probabilities (just an estimate):
    A. Some layoffs in certain units in the near term: ~60-70%
    B. A broad, company-wide massive layoff next Tuesday: maybe ~30-40% or less
    C. The status quo (no major layoffs) is still plausible: ~20-30%

Target has been doing smaller, quiet moves all year. There isn’t a need nor desire to do something so massive that it further erodes consumer confidence, invites more scrutiny from additional boycotts, and possibly drives away top talent while paralyzing those who stay. More likely it will be continued, surgical cuts while bolstering/hiring for areas that leadership believes will drive positive change for shareholders.

I know it’s tough not to panic, but take a breath. You have zero control over what happens to you and your peers, unfortunately.

Bumping this from @bn+1k819dxn1.

Is this the week???

It's officially Tuesday... is this the week? Someone must know for sure, a lot of chatter on the site. Many large meetings were canceled and almost 60 days till end of year. I really wish the company would just do a yearly VSP instead of rifs. It would be easier on everyone who wants to stay another year or leave.

Any truth to another round of layoffs in Oregon mid November

Has anyone else heard that rumor from Oregon about more layoffs coming in mid-November? I’m trying to figure out if there’s any truth to it. The only thing I’ve actually heard from people I work with is that some teams are merging and a few folks are being moved around. That could easily explain some of the chatter.

So when I saw a Reddit thread claiming that a supervisor told a tech “more layoffs are coming,” I wasn’t sure how much weight to give it. There’s been so much speculation lately that it’s hard to tell what’s legit and what’s just people trying to fill in the blanks. Has anyone heard anything?

Mike Lyons and the current MC have destroyed $100 Billion in Market Value

It looks like Mike is throwing everything at tanking results so he can have easier numbers to beat in 2026. He can blame Frank and Bob for everything in 2025. That is why the Board should of never brought in an outsider. Guy or Bob Hau should of been Frank's successor for exactly this reason. Meanwhile, shareholders are left holding the bag. Doyle and the Board should all be replaced. The only job of the Board is to get succession right and this is a F-!!

What's the latest on OI rumors?

As an OI worker nobody has really said or heard anything at least in my little corner, albeit my team has never had layoff whispers or issues since I've been here, so now I'm really curious since OI has been mentioned a lot here.

Isn't OI quite a big sector? What kind of roles are we talking here?

Roche and Element HT- Real Threat?

For non technical people like me, is Roche a real threat that can replace illumina or is it a tech that can take some market share? Also, Element coming up an HT sequencer? Everyday the competition and news against illumina is getting bad and the stock couldn’t cross the 100$ mark. Even Grail stock was over 100$ today at one point. Are we losing it? Just an worried employee 😢
