20 years of layoffs

that's my experience with paramount. and yet, i am still here. my sanity did suffer, often i ask myself was it worth it. i do like my job, the team is awesome but still, it's way too much of a burden from the psychological standpoint. when i look back i do not even know how i managed this inside, it's a blow after blow.

Let's go LEAN

Verizon plans to cut jobs as Dan pushes for a LEAN COMPANY. He said it... Employees in the Potomac region have already been offered voluntary separation packages which are listed on the local union’s website. Those interested need to apply before December 12 2025.... One of them said they were notified by email about a month ago and told to expect the package by mail... soooo the process began before Dan became CEO. If his goal for a leaner ops continues, more and more and more job cuts are expected next year.

this is bad

i’ve been reading about people being forced to train their replacements for at least a decade, but i never thought i’d end up working for a company that does it. when i started here a few years back it felt like there was a real culture of appreciation and opportunity.

this practice is disgusting and should be outright outlawed. no one should lose severance for refusing to take on something so unfair, unethical, and demeaning. severance should acknowledge past effort, not serve as blackmail to make sure an unqualified replacement can get by.

i had to go through multiple interviews to prove my skills just to get this job, and once hired, i barely got any real training.

as they cycle through teams, many can only document so much because creativity is often needed to solve problems. writing stepbystep instructions for every situation isn’t realistic. VZ also seems blind to how much these off-shore things exaggerate the abilities of their workers....sometimes outright fabricating them.

they rely on laid-off employees to cover that up by writing detailed guides. if they want to use a bargain-bin workforce, that’s their choice, but they shouldn’t expect people like that to be top-tier or capable in a crisis and we know how often we have them and there is more coming.

Waste not Want not - No worries, just layoff

So ADIPEC just wrapped up, and it seems we managed to send a lot of folks to Abu Dhabi to support. Wondering what the final price tag of that ended up being. Seems I saw on another company's page that they put a conservative number on a C-Suite attending at around 50K each (flights, lodging, logistics, incidentals, loss productivity while there). For Sr. Managers, it was near 35K, and for rank and file (non-business class flyers) it was in the area of 20K. Add all that up and it's crazy.

Know we need to be there, but it seems we send a lot of folks who use it more like a vacation and an opportunity to "team build" with the other managers.

No worries, just cut a couple of heads when you return to pay get the numbers where you need them to wrap up Q4 - no need for those folks to do any work.

All aside, consider the travel that is denied for your own team and than run some numbers on the cost to fly Houston to Abu Dhabi (business), stay at the Ritz or like (for ELT), logistics to move folks around, team dinners and the like and the work that has to be pushed back a week. It's not a small number, folks.

But we did win a couple of awards and booked a shitload of air miles for that vacation next year.

Layoffs at Great Dane

The company recently announced to employees that a layoff of as many as 150 workers could be possible, according to a source familiar with the matter. Later management told employees that some employees could be moved to second shift work to avoid being laid off. Officials told employees that the layoff will be for an indeterminate amount of time, the source said.

The Glory Days of this company

If you worked there prior to 2000yr, then you remember how great a company this was.
People could worked their way up the job ladder through hard work.

The company rewarded employees with good raises and bonuses.
The company motto was " Our employees are our greatest assets"

Then around 2000yr a dark cloud appeared and the company became obsessed with
saving money through any means.

Suddenly raises and bonuses were reduced to 2%. Then came the period of working
2 to 3 years with no raises or bonuses.

Departments saw their staff cut 25% to 40% sometimes 50%
To add insult to injury then came in the massive flux of H1B workers to take jobs from
U.S workers.

The decline continues...

So to sum it up, not a bright story tho... Layoffs at D&B started last week, WFH folks got hammered the most... We dont have the final number, it's likely between 150 to 200 employees.

Dpts with reported hits are: Product, Sales, Delivery, Cybersecurity, and IT. There were some smaller cuts Dublin and there are rumots that Canada is next.

No WARN notices have been filed, this probably means that no more than 50 folks were cut at a single location. Folks with long tenures got decent severance, it su-ked for folks that joned recently.

The patterns continue, micromanagement, privacy invasion, mandatory cameras, weekly work reports, Sapience tracking software use etc. Big Brother is watching. Also, C-level continues to su-k ba--s and Clearlake Capital is calling shots... They are loading us w/high debt, they are milking cash flow, our AI is just stupid (heh) and customers are not stupid, so they are not buying it. Toxic culture reins supreme.

We'll VERY likely see additonal cuts next year, they will keep restructuring and selling asset.

UAW Local 862 helps workers affected by looming Ford layoffs

More than 2,000 workers will soon be temporarily laid off at the Ford Assembly Plant in Louisville, a move expected to last about 10 months. During that time, the facility will undergo major changes as it transitions to building electric vehicles.

Once Great, Now Mediocre

What does it mean after having a great year? Layoffs! Greater efficiencies, more collaborative efforts, great culture - Layoffs. Putting in the extra effort - Layoffs. Continuing to fund women’s sports, Layoffs. Supporting the crime infested low income areas of Charolette - layoffs. Out of control expense accounts by senior leaders - layoffs. Listenening to the same enthusiastic speeches by the leaders, priceless. Employees see through the fake caring. MR could care less about relationships be it between peers or our dealer customers. It’s all a facade.

confitmation this morning

saw my SD in the hallway - she looked very upset. I asked her what's up and she pulled me into a room.
She just learned she's out. Layoffs will be 20% across all bands, all BUs, all geos, all everything. SVPs, VPs, stores, GN&T, everything. Looks like I'm on the list, too.

What will happen to one's STI if they are RIF'd????

Given that we are at the latter part of the year, does anyone know if one's STI gets paid since we have already hit our goals committed for the year, even if that means a prorated rate, I don't know if that happened in previous RIFs around the same time period???

Next big list is ready post leadership offsite

After failing to lift the sales, the leadership is ready with the next list impacting many old timers at the senior roles, the remaining testers and the product which is always creating top issues with weak revenue stream. Many people are being put into difficult situations intentionally for them to resign. Many did already and impossible situation for the rest. This is a big s**t hole now for Coupa 1.0 folks with no win, whatever effort they make.

Alaska Slope gets hit today - Good Luck

Good Luck to the slope workers today. It’s sad to watch really. High $$$ consultants were given the reigns. Reminds me of the RLG days. Conoco used to be the common sense operator on the slope. Only hired good people. Those days are gone. We’ve hired some real winners over the last few years (folks that didn’t make the cut at BP and Hilcorp). To top it off, management thought it best to lay people off right before the holidays, and expect a wildly successful winter season with minimal remaining field experience. Good luck to all. Those that are asked to move on, it’s probably for the better.

Cisco Q2 Slashfest = 8,500 (10%) layoff

Cisco is jumping on the 2025 "AI-washing" bandwagon and will cut legacy roles and hire specialists. Total predicted: 8,500 jobs cut with severance of 6 months + stock vesting acceleration

Why?
The internal AI enshitification is in full bloom (employees realizing AI is bollocks)
Cisco's partner event last week was a wake up call (thoroghly underwhelming. Full of vapourware. snoozefest)

Cisco is pushing for a $2B annual cost savings amid AI restructuring.
the rumors are for 2,000-3,000 job cuts but a real possibility of 10% slash of their 85K headcount (8,500 jobs cut)

The numbers are looking weak.
FY25 revenue stagnated at $56.65B (flat YoY), with networking down 5% despite 6% product growth. At average of $200K total comp/person (salary + benefits) an 8,500 gutting would yield $1.7B in savings. This aligns with 2024 12% (9K) trim that boosted margins 2pts

EPS guidance signals a ton of pressure. Deeper cuts fund $1B+ AI capex while offsetting tariff risks.

which shall it be? 3k or 8.5k?

RE-Joyce No-Hit Wonders - The RECAP CAP (Get it?)

Let's go over the basic results of the last 3 years..... and some basic facts of what's happened on the Re-Joyce era of NSIT. Now in Lame Duck mode..... LOL

Base Salary = $6Mil? $5.5? (Can feed a few families with that now can't you....)
Stock Sold = $2,0100,000
Shares Outstanding = $48,460 = let's say at $80 to be optimistic LLOL, since she'll be a lockout insider post Jan (and by then the stock will of more than likely be in the 70's at this pace) = $3,876,800
Shares Purchased = 0

Damage done to this company = Priceless
Sr Leaders hired with out the needed skills or competence = >20? >25?
Individuals laid off = 1,200+ (Easily) <- If you have a better estimate, put it in the comments
Job Offshored to India / Philippines ± 800
Market Cap Erosion = $3B
Current Market Cap = $2.784B
Previous Market Cap High = $5.78 billion (Thanks to riding Ken's Coat Tails)
Quarterly Estimates Missed

Q3 2025: Missed both EPS ($2.43 reported vs $2.49 consensus) and revenue estimates ($2.0 billion reported vs $2.15 billion consensus).
Q2 2025: Missed both EPS and revenue estimates. Revenue missed by 2.9%, and EPS missed by 33%.
Q1 2025: Beat analysts' EPS estimates by 2.5% but missed revenue estimates.
Q4 2024: Full year 2024 EPS missed expectations.
The available information indicates a recent trend of missing revenue estimates, particularly in the latter part of 2024 and through 2025, while EPS performance has been mixed, with two beats and two misses in the last four quarters. A complete history for the entire three-year period (from late 2022 to late 2025) would provide the exact total number of misses.

That's only one year, still not something to be doing Ted-X Talks on or guest Forbes articles.

Thanks InsightGPT!

Optum Insight Town Hall

Today’s townhall was informative. It was made crystal clear that globalization and AI will continue to be the major priority/strategy of Optum.

Additionally, I found it ironic that they mentioned the concern of staff in Ireland, India, and the Philippines sometimes feeling left out, but no mention of the concern of workers in the United States related to continuous layoffs. I’m sure those in America being laid off feel way more left out.

Boulben’s Org…

So if rumors are true, looks like Boulben’s org is being hit hard. Deservedly so. I counted at least 20 AVP’ers and above. Seriously? For an org that really drove us to a lot of the issues we’re having. Kept raising prices and a lot of questionable value-prop decisions. If the trend continues, I applaud Dan’s decisions.

How did we become so incompetent?

Look at what we have been doing for the last 3-5 years, outsourcing CSRs, taking away abilities from the retail POS, adding fees, reducing and removing discounts, wasting billions on useless spectrum while cutting off and failing to maintain what is actually used, and then listening to higher ups and C suite employees whine and blame us for poor numbers. The actions that have been taken would make no sense to someone in middle school, yet were taken by millionaires. This is criminally stupid, almost makes you question if they are a deliberate attempt to devalue the company for a future sale.

And what is being done to fix it? More fees and BYOD plus? We lost subscribers again on the consumer side last quarter while literally giving lines out for free with free or heavily discounted upgrades. Who thinks this is working? People being payed millions to make your life more difficult, your quotas higher, and your future uncertain.

The obvious fix would be to stop sc--wing customers with fees and trash customer service and stop giving shady reps easy to hide ways to add lines, but who wants to hear that? Sometimes you have to spend money to make money, but no, lets just cut and outsource more, but we will spend on AI that customers and reps very vocally dislike.

Spend money on US customer service reps and the network and stop sc--wing the customers, all of the money they have saved with these cuts is being lost by the droves of customers leaving for Tmobile, and common sense and a little money would stop that and reverse a good bit of it.

Hopefully the new CEO doesn’t F this trainwreck up any further, maybe he isn’t at his knees in front of Larry Fink like Hans was. Maybe Dan will read this, one of the HR spies in here should put this on his desk.

Market Location Strategy paused?

Someone posted last week that there was a pause in Market Location Strategy displacements in Risk (see post titled "Risk Location Strategy"). I've heard something for a different group that was supposed to get their relocation decision letters in November (in advance of being displaced in the coming months), but that was "paused". Does anyone know if there is a larger change to the policy going on?
