Latest update

It sounds like everything is out now.

We sold a significant amount of doors to the agents... The good news is, those employees will have a job. I’m told we’re keeping a thousand corporate doors and that my team and I are safe for at least 3 years, do we trust that? Looks like operations took a significant hit, who is going to do that work?

Overall, I feel lucky, but feel awful for anyone who is impacted.

US wireless carrier Verizon to sell 274 stores, lay off another 500 corporate employees

https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/verizon-shed-274-stores-lay-off-another-500-corporate-employees-2026-07-16/

July 16 (Reuters) - U.S. wireless carrier Verizon (VZ.N), opens new tab said on Thursday it will sell 274 company-owned retail locations and cut about 500 corporate jobs as part of its ‌restructuring.

The moves will affect about 3,000 retail and corporate employees. Verizon will own 1,000 stores after the sale, effective August 16. Verizon eliminated several hundred jobs in May after announcing in November it was cutting more than 13,000 jobs in its largest single round of layoffs.

Need to be laid off - Balvinder

So much churn here, it is looking like mixer grinder on full speed. And perfect timing also with in-person work is starting soon, and now we have a new SVP with full “I have a PhD in retail/store” energy. Apparently he is telling us Jack himself recruited him. Very God. Very VIP. Please bow and clap.

But one small clarification: this Sprouts, not Walmart. Budget is not unlimited, people are not lining up to suffer, and nobody is waiting for some retail professor to come and save the day.

People already do not want to work with him. Existing employees are looking. New hires are ghosting after talking to him.

He is in for a rude awakening. Organic. Locally sourced, and very expensive

Retail store lock install list edited?

I work at a retail store and received an email about ALL retail stores locks being updated and changed, My store among many others have since been removed from that list. Asked our ops people and was told it was due to extra work needing to be done to have locks installed. Email specifically says any stores needing extra work are still on the list but will be delayed. Any one else in retail can go and see the list has been edited down as the total store count seems to be in the 800s. Possible early warning sign for stores. I'm taking it as my store is being affected with whatever is coming....

Temple Mall Closed by City Order; Many Face Layoffs

Temple Mall received a city-mandated temporary closure. This action followed the mall owner's failure to fix fire code violations. Many workers across mall businesses face job loss. Dillard's remains open, having separate safety systems. The owner, Kohan Retail Investment Group, has a history of property neglect.

Amazon or Whole Foods

Just got notice from my TL that I will be getting an email that states I either have to go full time at whole foods if there is a spot available or give up either my part time at whole foods and part time at the Amazon counter since I cannot have "two jobs within Amazon". I'll have 5 days to make the decision.

Retail IT

I’m hoping for some honest feedback. I recently applied for a role in the Retail IT department at Walgreens, but I walked away with a really bad feeling about the hiring director and the overall environment. I’m wondering if pursuing this opportunity might be a mistake.

Thursday Store Meeting?

Notified yesterday of a mandatory in store meeting happening tomorrow. Any information on this? Seems to be happening to select stores, including COR. I know US Cellular has been shutting doors lately, is T-Mobile cutting corporate doors as well? No information is able to be given by anyone until this meeting.

Retail stores are being notified of layoffs

Anyone else? Got told last day is 6/6/26, ironically enough. On the east coast. Not even sure if all my coworkers are aware yet either. Next steps are basically severance or reapply to a role nearby and hope the rsm likes you. Had another friend find out the same thing at his store in the south as well.
