Mount Holly Plant to Rehire and Expand

Daimler Truck North America will recall 400 workers and hire an additional 200 at its Mount Holly, North Carolina facility by the end of 2026. This expansion is part of a plan to introduce a second shift at the Freightliner truck manufacturing plant. The move reflects a rebound in the freight market, evidenced by significant increases in Class 8 truck orders. DTNA is closely monitoring demand trends as it implements these staffing changes.

When will Walmart start their foreign worker H1B hiring again?

Months ago we heard Walmart planned 3000+ H1B hires. Then, the Trump administration attached a $100,000 fee for bringing in a foreign H1B employee to replace a US based associate. After that, Walmart walked back their H1B plans.

Now, a federal judge has ruled the fee is illegal. Does that mean we’ll see Walmart dump a ton more US based associates and bring in foreign H1B workers to take those jobs? If I had to guess, I’d say, yes- they probably will.

Hiring For Roles They Just Fired?

How can they lay off AMs, while turning around and immediately adding new AMs?

It seems like what might be really happening is CDW is trying to re-set the payroll with lower paid employees and foregoing the experience, expertise and customer relationships of AMs who were paid more competitively.

I’m sure that’s also happening in other departments.

What could go wrong?🤦🏻‍♂️

Company in distress

Based on my experience, I would encourage candidates to do thorough research before accepting a position. During my interactions with the company, I came away with concerns about leadership, the hiring process, and the organization’s direction. The interview process felt disorganized and left me with little confidence in how the company was being managed. Given the recent layoffs, I would carefully consider the stability of the role before making a decision.

Ramp Research Shows AI Spending Increases Employment

Ramp conducted a new study on AI adoption. The research focused on companies' spending habits. It revealed that high AI investment leads to more hiring. Companies are expanding their workforces, not reducing them. This finding challenges the perception of AI causing job cuts.

Hiring practices are wild.

With all the H1Bs and outsourced roles (totaling millions of jobs), no wonder the job market is “down”. Not to mention, I know several people in office who got their children internships and full time roles here. This cr-p is ridiculous and all companies who partake in undermining American opportunities should be fined heavily and required to hire locally. Dont start with “lack of talent”. Thats a lie. We have more than enough, these companies just don’t want to train or pay Americans when they could do it for a fraction with foreigners.

AI replaceing people at IBM -- or not! Nickel decision not worth 2 cents.

From CNBC.com:
Similarly, IBM replaced its HR functions with AI that handled around 94% of routine requests but was unable to meet the other 6%, which included ethical dilemmas. IBM then announced plans to triple its U.S. entry-level hiring across all business units in 2026.

“If we don’t continue to invest in entry-level hires, what happens in 3–5 years?,” IBM chief human resources officer Nickle LaMoreaux said at a Charter AI Summit in New York. “There’s no pipeline; the well simply dries up,” LaMoreaux added.

Challenger Report: June Layoffs Drop, AI Still Key

U.S. employers announced 45,849 job cuts in June. This total represents a 53% decrease from May's figures. Technology remained the leading sector for cuts, with 15,503 announced. Artificial Intelligence was the primary reason cited for 14,029 job cuts. Overall hiring plans for June also saw a decrease from the previous month.

Is this how offshoring always starts?

We went from working with the vendor’s offshore contractors to now converting them to FTEs and bringing more of them. At the same time, hiring here is being scaled back, and I’d expect local headcount to keep dropping as the India team ramps up. Wondering how you see that playing out.

USFDA to Hire 2,200 After Job Cuts

The U.S. Food and Dr-g Administration (USFDA) is authorized to hire 2,200 new staff. This follows the agency cutting over 3,000 employees last year. The job reductions had raised concerns about the FDA's dr-g review capacity. Approximately 600 new employees are currently onboarding, with some already started. Officials report improving staff morale and reduced attrition rates.

Ford figured it out - AI can't do acceptable QUALITY (at least not yet). Can you hear me now, Dan (and his cronies)?

Ford is rehiring veteran engineers to fix quality problems created by Ford's rush to implement AI/automation (admitted by their VP of vehicle hardware engineering - Charles Po-n). Oops, duh. At least they recognize the problem and how to address it. As an aside, building an already designed vehicle has got to be more "automatable" than designing a cell site and the even more "thinking/thoughtful" part - walking that project through all of the issues that pop up from the initial design through turn up.

Ford rehires ‘gray beard’ engineers after AI falls short…..

Ford executives said they have hired 350 veteran engineers — some of them were former employees, while others had been working at suppliers — after artificial intelligence and automated systems failed to deliver the desired quality level.

Bloomberg reports the company’s chief operating officer Kumar Galhotra told journalists that Ford had been “relying more and more on automated quality systems” with disappointing results. So the company “brought back technical specialists,” and those specialists “hunt for failure points before a part ever reaches the plant floor.”

Charles Po-n, Ford’s vice president of vehicle hardware engineering, added, “Mistakenly we thought that by just introducing artificial intelligence and ingesting the design requirements that we had, that that would produce a high-quality product.”

To be clear, this doesn’t mean Ford is abandoning its AI plans entirely. Instead, it’s using the rehired employees — referred to as “gray beard” engineers — to train younger staff and reprogram AI tools.

This rehiring seems to be paying off, resulting in what Ford CEO Jim Farley said are things like lowered warranty and recall costs, “contributing to literally hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars of a tailwind for Ford on cost.” The automaker also claimed the top spot among mainstream brands in the JD Power Initial Quality Survey released this week.

Jun layoffs wtf is going on?

They laid off people holding the project together and kept the ship afloat. It's funny how none of the senior leaders are not getting laid off but people doing the actual work are. They have been hiring massively .. there are 5000+ opening in Optum currently, 1000+ IT roles, so it's not a budget issue... It almost seems like being smart and good at what you do and bending to your managers will is seen as a weakness..the most arrogant Karens and Kens that push back at everything are the only one surviving in this burning he-l. Better start worshipping Satan if you want to survive the coming rounds.

BTC hiring trends

I don’t know how it is in other organizations, but EMTech is aggressively hiring in BTC. Either move to a safer department or keep your options open and look elsewhere. I know strategy advisors are always on confidential projects, so they can’t talk about them, but you can still get useful signals from them.

Got a Fedex letter from Oracle, asking me to apply for some positions

Anyone else got it? I'm in SF bay area, and the letter has couple job codes for bay area too. It asks me to apply for those.
Why does Oracle send out this letter by Fedex? It seems they laid off too many people, and they're desperately looking for new ones. I just had a long vacation, and planned to start looking for new job now, so I'm thinking if I should apply. If I do, and got the offer, do I need to return the package I got earlier?

Hiring Front Shows Good News

Seeking new employment can feel like a full-time job. Yet, positive developments exist in the hiring sector. Companies are reportedly rehiring employees. These rehires occur after prior AI-related layoffs. Applicants can learn how to distinguish themselves.

Daikin Seeks 400 New Production Workers

Daikin Comfort Technologies North America is expanding its workforce. The company aims to fill approximately 400 production positions. These jobs are located at its Daikin Texas Technology Park in Waller. Employees will manufacture heating and air conditioning systems. This hiring push contrasts with recent layoffs by other Texas employers.

Are people avoiding Oracle these days?

We've been trying to fill a role for months, and we've gotten almost no qualified applicants. It almost feels like qualified people have heard the stories, know what it's like here, and are staying away as a result. We desperately need help, but I don't think we'll get it anytime soon.
