I hate having to look for a job at 55. I have a huge problem with interviews because I can completely tank them every single time, no matter how much I prepare. The thought of having to face another one makes my stomach twist and my anxiety spike, and I dread every second leading up to it because I know there’s a very real chance I’ll blow it again. I hate this.

Prospect of layoffs has never been scarier
Try and get a job and you'll see, it’s not happening.
Don’t relax if you were skipped on Thursday
If you made it through this round, don’t just sit back. Do everything you can to line up other options. The job market is brutal right now, and the earlier you start, the better your chances. I’ve been searching for a while and actually got two offers. I turned them down because they weren’t great, but the point is, opportunities do show up. Taking things into your own hands can at least give you a little peace of mind.
Reapply to VZW after 6 month time restriction
Any1 tryna to or hoping to re apply after their severance for a vzw role that opens up in a similar part of the business after their 6 mo timeframe expires? Guess you can be rehired after 6 months. Anyone’s supe tell them they will try and bring them back into a similar role after 6 months? Anyone’s leaders say they foresee spots opening back up in the next few months? Mine keeps telling me that she swears she will be able to get me back into another sales role in the biz in a few months timeframe with new reqs. Anyone else hearing this? What do y’all think?
Reapply to Role After 6 Month Timeframe?

No one wants seasonal BOH
We only have a handful of positions and it's been ridiculously hard to hire. Anyone else have this issue? We've hired 1 or 2 that never showed. People have the worst resumes if they have one at all and some don't want to work the weekend! Hellooooo - it's retail. BOH is about the cushiest schedule you can get! Days only and not past 5 pm in my store.
I used to think the 'no one wants to work' wasn't true but now I know differently!
Start preparing now
The amount of panic and anxiety on this board was overwhelming for the last month. I hope that it served as a lesson (it did for me) to not wait to get our affairs in order. Start preparing and looking for jobs now, the RIF's are not done. If you get complacent again, you will go through the same panic in a few months.
Unemployed Vz Worker
Any job openings at T ? I have 8 years of experience in engineering. I keep hearing they are hiring construction workers but have not seen any jobs in engineering.
Let the chaos and grind ensue
It’s only going to get worse until the next round hits.
I really hope better jobs find the people we lost yesterday, and soon. As far as the leftovers are concerned - none of us should stop looking for other options. Something will eventually work out.
Date to work through to get all of the bonuses/pension credit/401k match
Nothing new, but I am tired of dealing with this failing company, the layoffs of good employees, etc... so I'm looking for a new job at a growing company. I just want to make sure that I receive my LTI, deferred comp, pension credit, and 401k credit. Will working through 12/31 suffice or is it 2/28/26? Thanks!

Getting a new job?
How does it work for getting a new job? My last day at Verizon is in February. I don't want to wait until February to start looking I want to be able to look and possibly get a job. But if that happens before February do I have to tell Verizon? What is the ruling around this?
I have seen so many people on LinkedIn post that there in the market for a job and I kind of want to do the same thing but I don't want to jeopardize my severance.
MORE BIG CUTS COMING! PREPARE YOURSELVES!
All stores are underperforming (according to the corporate office), so that means fewer employees who will be pushed to do twice the work! You should be looking for a new job now. Be prepared to be called into the office after the holidays.
Scott Kirby (United CEO) is right. Customer experience improvements are just “table stakes”
A good read that relates to us right now
https://onemileatatime.com/news/united-ceo-scott-kirby-confidently-declares-american-cooked/
Replace with Verizon and we can all relate
"The current narrative among [Verizon]American executives is that everything they’re doing right now is to “focus on the customer.” The problem is, that’s not enough. [Verizon] American’s Chief Customer Officer has said that a reliable schedule is just “table stakes” at this point.
But the reality is that even customer experience improvements are just “table stakes,” when you’re competing against [T-Mobile]Delta and [Verizon]United. What else ya got? There needs to be a bigger strategy, and employees need to be excited about it.
The problem with [Dan] Isom at [Verizon]American is that he’s neither some brilliant strategy guy, nor is he a football coach type, like McCartney references. McCartney is exactly right — “once you lose labor, it’s over,” and “it may take a couple of years or whatever, but it’s over.” [Dan] Isom isn’t a football coach, he’s the captain of a lost ship with no navigation that’s just going deeper into the ocean. And maybe that sounds harsh, but c’mon, [Verizon]American lost money in Q3 2025, which is supposed to be one of the better quarters.
It's been a been a bumpy last 20 years here. I will miss many of you! Wish us luck in the job hunt!
Lets find employment where the EMPLOYEES are VALUED FIRST!!
Severance Package was Amazing
Been with the company almost 20 years and this is like hitting the lottery. My 401k is already enough to fund an early retirement, but the severance package was amazing! I'm not complaining! Plus we are getting full payout of vacation and STI.
I might look for another job, one that isn't stressful, or just call it quits after this.
Can’t say I was thrilled with the job
But I’d been trying to find something else for months, and nothing ever came through. Now I’m laid off, and the panic is setting in. Wishing everyone who lost their job yesterday the best of luck, I think we’re all going to need it.
It's tough out there
It's tough out there. I took the package last year after 17 years in Engineering, thinking I'd find a new job without much trouble. A year later, I'm still looking. It's a difficult market, and I truly hope everyone manages to land on their feet.
Layoffs Mayhem
This is more of a vent….
So, my layoff date is January 8th, 2025. I’ve only been with the company for 2 and a half years. I see I’m only getting a month’s worth of severance pay - the three weeks plus 40hrs of PTO. That’s bs! How am I supposed to survive? I’ve seen some companies give at least three months worth of a package. And I’ve already been looking for jobs, but I’m getting lots of rejection emails. I have a Masters in Healthcare Administration and I just saw where my degree will no longer be considered a professional degree. This year has already been a train wreck for me personally! I couldn’t even celebrate my graduation because I literally found out I was being laid off a week afterwards. 2026, please be good to us. We need jobs, income, and peace. At least I do.
It was a pleasure, see you all in the job market
Hired out of college a year and a half ago, gone. Was a pleasure reading this forum with you all
Career Development
What's with career development? Where are the jobs?
Do they ask us to resign ? or will we be terminated
The former is better for job search
If you do get laid off, what are your plans? Besides searching for a new job
I’m going to …
- Exercise and eat better and take better care of my health.
- Study up on personal finance to figure out how I can retire early, so I never have to deal with this type of bullsh-t from an employer ever again.
- Organize and clean my house.
- Spend more time with people I love.
- Cook new recipes.
- Learn martial arts and challenge the Hatchet Man to a duel
I think I will enjoy having more free time on my hands!
Any Success With Intetnal Hiring?
Are any internal departments actively filling positions?
Which Agencies are used for recruiting IT people?
I have an interest to get back into Ford as an agency resource.
Rather than using Indeed or something similar, I want to reach out to the agencies directly. What are the most popular agencies for IT work? I seem to think Tech Team is no longer. Thanks!
p.s. no need to deter me from making this d-mb move :) I need the $$
Hiring freeze?
Is there a hiring freeze right now? I applied for two roles and radio silence but I meet most if not all of the requirements and what I do is pretty specific, so I can’t imagine it just being that much competition.
Unfortunately there will be more in 1Q 2026
Its not over... even for those that survive this round. Keep your resumes and profiles updated and possibly, start looking.
Dan is the true hatchet man and only cares about the bottom line. He's gonna squeeze that extra $0.50 per share out come he-l or high water.
Stay strong people...
Is LinkedIn a must?
In today's job search, is having a LinkedIn account a must? Does it improve your chances of getting hired, even if it's freshly made? Been at Verizon for over two decades and I never thought I'd need it, but I'm not so sure anymore.
Is there anywhere to work in uptown Charlotte on a ground floor?
I have meetings tomorrow and need somewhere to work in between meetings while waiting for clients. And of course need to connect to the network.
Already found another job...
I have been telling every customer that walks in and quietly told them that they are being misled, ripped off, and taken advantage of and told them to go to another carrier and provided them their acct and xfer pin #s
Verizon must fall. I played my part and everyone on the chopping block shall do what I do.
They should bleed out and lose millions of customers for treating us like dogs
Another Job Lined Up.... Would RIF actually be good for me?
I reached out to friends and am hopeful to have a job lined up within next 2 weeks. If that's the case, would a RIF work out in my favor? Take the severance and push out my start date until I'm off VZ payroll?
If it is beneficial to me... Could I still volunteer between now and 11/20?
How quickly after RIF are you starting the job search?
I know this varies based on your severance amount, if you are the only earner in the family, etc.
But for you personally, how long will you wait to start the job search? Do you plan to take any time off for yourself before starting a search?
For those impacted in NJ

No hires during November and December
Just a note that there are very few jobs out there to apply for in November and December. Then in January things are still slow in the hiring process at a large company if they are hiring at all. Most will not be hiring.
There is life outside of Verizon
I was a senior manager and was severed in late 2023. We were given like 3 months notice which was awkward. The worry, anxiety, feeling of being a failure was very overwhelming. The job market had changed dramatically since 2011 and I found it very frustrating to apply over and over to jobs I was 100% qualified for to not even get an interview. I made getting a job my job, worked at it 8 hours a day. It took 3 months before I landed a job....and it was an amazing job. 2 years later and things are still amazing. Way better pay, better work life balance, and they really value my abilities and skills. Verizon trains very well, and remember that you bring alot to the table that is very attractive to employers. Leaving Verizon does not mean lower pay. Being somewhere were you are more than just a number is refreshing. Not being at Verizon anymore is refreshing. Hang in there folks, you got this!
Thinking of leaving?
Is anyone else thinking of finding a better opportunity else where if your still at Target?
I have noticed individuals who accepted the VSP last year now asserting that they chose to leave rather than being laid off on LinkedIn. VSP acceptance and being laid off as functionally the same, as both indicate the company was not invested in retaining those roles. Trying to reframe VSP acceptance a year later as a superior decision does not change the core reality that those positions were considered replaceable. Such a coward move to stay quiet for a year then come out talking about lay offs when it’s easy. Cowards!
I have seen posts on here mentioning that specific Senior Directors are updating their LinkedIn profiles to "open to work," but the authors are refusing to name these individuals. DONT BE A COWARD. If you have firsthand, verifiable information about specific SDs, please include their names when posting.
