Info Summary: Oracle Layoffs Summer 2025

This is mostly for non-Oracle people reading this mess. I've summarized last 100 posts here on layoffs.com:

Detailed Summary of Oracle Layoffs

Based on the provided text, Oracle is in the process of a major, multi-phase reduction in its workforce. The layoffs are described by employees as part of a strategic shift to cut costs and reinvest in artificial intelligence (AI).

Who is getting laid off and which groups are affected?

The layoffs are impacting a broad range of employees across different departments, levels, and regions.

  • Geographic Locations: The cuts are confirmed to have impacted the US, specifically in California and Arizona, with 161 layoffs in Seattle alone and 143 in the Bay Area. Layoffs have also been reported in Canada and India, with "hundreds of roles affected."
  • Business Units & Teams: The primary focus of the layoffs appears to be the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) division. Specific teams and products mentioned as being affected include:
    • Fusion Applications (FA)
    • Database (DB)
    • NetSuite, with the entire support team in Canada (60 people) and teams in Kitchener being laid off.
    • JET, VB, and ADF product teams.
    • Legacy applications like EBS, Siebel, and PeopleSoft.
    • Industries such as Utilities and Construction.
    • The OCI AI team and AI/ML project management roles.
  • Employee Profile: The layoffs are not targeting a single demographic. The text notes that cuts are being made to "H1Bs and US citizens," "Employees based in India and in the US," and "Employees at all levels up to SVP." It is also mentioned that "High performers" and those with "Exceeds Expectations" ratings were let go, along with long-time employees with over 20 years of tenure. One post claims a "senior VP" with "25yrs poof" was laid off.
Timing of the Layoffs

The layoffs are not a single event but a phased process occurring over several months.

  • Mid-August: The initial wave began with meetings and notifications in mid-August, with some employees' access being cut off immediately after a short call.
  • September: Multiple sources point to a major wave in September, with one post stating, "EMEA will be hit in September. The list of people is in the system already." Another says, "September 2nd is what I heard for another unit in Europe."
  • October: Public WARN filings in California and Washington confirm layoffs taking effect around mid-October. A post mentions, "Next round is Oct 13-15 based upon USA WARN filings in WA and CA."
Future Plans and Reasons for the Layoffs

The provided text suggests that more layoffs are to come and offers various reasons for the cuts.

  • Total Number of Layoffs: There is no official number, but rumors and estimates range from 8,000 to "10% across entier company," which would be approximately 18,000 people.
  • Strategic Direction: The main reason cited is a strategic shift to cut costs and reinvest in AI. The text explicitly states, "The supposed GDP boosts from hiring workers failed to materialize in reality due to the fact that all wages paid are getting saved instead of circulating throughout the economy." The company is reportedly shifting from a "cash cow" model to "reinvest it in AI."
  • Managerial Structure: The text suggests that the company is "bloated with middle tier manager's" and that a "Mid mgmt reduction" is necessary.
  • Severance and Benefits: Severance packages are reported to be "4 weeks for first year of employment. One more week for each additional year of employment. Maximum is 26 weeks." Employees have concerns about what happens to their unvested Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with some noting that they "lost the other 3" years of stock. One employee mentions, "Our group lost a few who were close to retiring anyway but also a few who had no plans. The job market is never as good as you would like but it can always be worse."
  • Morale and Culture: The layoffs have had a significant negative impact on morale, with employees expressing feelings of shock, disbelief, and survivor's guilt. The text quotes a post that reads, "You are cattle." and another stating, "I'm getting the fu--k out of here ASAP...I've never seen this before."

Please seek help if needed

There are some people not doing so well since being laid off. Seriously not doing well. Please seek help.

Feeling anxious and depressed, having trouble sleeping, not being able to enjoy activities that you are used to enjoying are all normal feelings that you may experience after a layoff.

If these feeling persist over time it may be useful to be assessed by a doctor and/or mental health professional. Layoffs can put a lot of emotional stress on relationships and it may be useful to consult with a mental health professional about this as well.

Layoffs are not done yet.

Sr. Manager here. I read this board every so often but, please don't get complacent and feel like you are safe right now. Unfortunately, it's not quite done. Last week was the majority but there is another round this coming Monday. I have 5 meetings with HR and my directs that I don't want to be in next week. Good luck .

Heard through the grapevine that large cuts are coming next week. AGAIN

Sr. Director here.

Had my 1x1 with my SVP yesterday and was told that I likely will have to cut 5 people. I was told that this is company wide and most, if not all, departments and teams will be hit with a minimum of 10% for each team. Apparently it comes down to which is "cheaper" - cut ties with a vendor and get rid of a necessary tool, or cut people. In this case, it's sadly people. She couldn't tell me much but it sounds like it's supposed to be fairly big.

People, calm down

No numbers were stated. People are pulling stuff from a while ago and trying to pass it as news. Ignore the 7k rumor. Don't do that to yourself. Yes, we know cuts are coming. But that's about all we know for now. Until we know more, try not to lose too much sleep over people speculating.

Plausible deniability

The use AI to determine if you are valuable….BS!! Management wants no blood on their hands. Cop has been a layoff company for a long time, bad reputation has followed them. But hey, it’s the oil business, that’s the risk you take. History shows that it’s an up and down business. You can either su-k it up and take the risks or you can go make teddy bears for living. If you decide to stay and not take the EOI and you get lucky and they don’t pull your lottery ball and can you, just know this won’t be the last layoff you see. It’s the nature of the business and SOP for CoP! Good luck to all. Signed, retired CoP!

Retired CoP

I retired from CoP about 6-7 years ago, my time there was great, great team work and collaborations, good projects and great people. The management was less than desirable in Houston. I went through about 9 layoffs in 13 years. I EOI’d on the last one about 2018 and retired. The story keeps repeating itself over and over again. ConocoPhillips is a layoff company, period. Th

The Silent Layoff Machine

We refuse to pretend everything is fine.

We work in a company where people vanish from the org chart without warning, while executives celebrate imaginary victories and spout empty slogans about growth and culture. They tell us to be all-in, to treat this like our future. And yet we can be discarded at any moment, without reason, without acknowledgment.

This is not a culture of excellence; it’s a culture of quiet fear.

You cannot demand total effort while offering zero stability.

You cannot preach loyalty while practicing disposability.

You cannot expect people to build their lives when the ground is constantly being pulled out from under them.

This system is psychologically poisonous.

It breeds anxiety, distrust, and a permanent state of fight-or-flight.

We smile through it, but we are exhausted.

We produce, but we do not thrive.

We comply, but we do not believe.

We refuse the gaslighting. We refuse the fake optimism. We refuse the expectation that we should sacrifice everything for companies that can erase us overnight.

We deserve honesty. We deserve stability. We deserve the basic dignity of being able to plan our lives without living in quiet te---r.

Enough.

How does it actually happen???

Honest question but how does this stuff actually go down from higher up in the company? Like are there just some bean counters in finance that “make a list”, or is there more involvement from the lower-level management? The only reason I’m asking is because we lost a ton of historical and impactful engineers. I was honestly shocked to see how many folks like that were let go 😞.

Also, I can’t wait to read the next Cisco Beat-down chat.. of yeah they disabled it!!! Never mind lol.

LAYOFF DATA BREAKDOWN

For those who have already taken AEOI, EOI, or been laid off, I understand that you receive a list showing some demographic info about those who have left CVX.

I’m curious if that info show the location of the employees. Especially for those who were laid off, I would love to see the breakdown by San Ramon vs. Houston. I am starting to think that San Ramon employees have been unfairly targeted for layoff (so, given similar candidates, the Houston employee is the one selected).

Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

The comrades I’ve lost… It won’t stop hurting, it's like they’re all still there… You feel it too, don’t you? …they came after you in OCI, then OHAI. Oracle just… keeps growing, swallowing everything in its path, getting bigger and bigger. Who knows how big now…

I thought everything had been taken from me. But now, I really have lost it all. The Boss, and the future we were building together.

Big day tomorrow. LR or no LR...

From what I have seen, very little hiring in FY25. So that might be good, maybe no LR. But on the other hand, heard folks who are fine earlier, are now on 'Below Expectations' in the latest review. Is this management asking all teams do do stack ranking, and force 1-2 into the bottom that are easy candidates to LR ? Who knows.

AI Overview

F5 Networks, a multicloud application services and security company, has conducted layoffs in the past, including a significant round in early 2023 that impacted 620 employees (9% of their workforce). While there's no indication of current layoffs on August 12, 2025, F5 has a history of workforce reductions, including some related to marketing and content production. The company has also stated it doesn't anticipate layoffs in its current fiscal year ending in September.

In about 2 hours from now.....

In about 2 hours from now.....

the employees in India that survived this RIF will likely be starting their workday. Those that did not will be wondering what just happened.......

Going across the various time zones as the sun rises, there will be other centers of F5 employees that will be encountering the same.

In the US, I know of Seattle, Spokane and San Jose that got hit. I believe there were a number of remote employees too among those that are now without employment. I'm guessing the RIF size to be > 250.

Having been through 3 RIFs and two closings of my own, the hardest hit are those going through medical procedures/issues and the children of those RIFd and those RIFd that are taking care of their parents. Will savings last long enough so that food can be provided on the table and shelter to provide warmth? Will I be able to afford COBRA to get me through the medical issues? Will I find new employment? How do I comfort my kids? How do I take care of my aging parents?

I don't have any answers. For me, it's unbelievable that I survived those times and situations.

I would hope the various Chief x-x Officers (of which now there are many), SVPs, VPs, and senior management seriously consider what they have just done. It's much more than keeping the stock price up, double digit profit, and maintaining your bonuses. You have just destroyed the lives of hundreds of loyal hard working honest people and it didn't need to be done. There were other ways.

At F5 there was a core group of about 7 of us working on bigip next/centralized manager that continuously raised concerns about the architecture/feature set along with the quality and performance of the products. We also raised concerns that F5's implementation of Agile/Scrum was a poor development choice. Our concerns were dismissed. Gradually, each one of us was eliminated over the course of a number of RIFs. We were silenced.

And now those products are no longer.

F5 is no longer a community member. F5 is no longer human first. F5 has lost it's soul.

FED tech support to be gone very soon and more jobs to be leaving the USA

I can confirm the rumors about outsourcing FED and PSONE are true , it slipped out in a meeting today.

And it gets worse: the entire IT service in the U.S. is set to be shut down.

Even more bad news : phase 3 will wipe out all Dell U.S. jobs in layered tech support, IM and SAM included.

For PSONE and FED, the target is August 2026. Phase 3 looks set for around January 2027. Phase 1 is already underway , they’ve started cutting jobs in the U.S., and the process is nowhere near over.

In short, it looks like Dell is shifting its workforce from the U.S. to lower-cost countries just to pinch pennies. The rumors about shutting down offices in OKC, Limerick, Cork, and elsewhere are probably true too.
