Cresta
Is there any good reason to have Cresta installed? We were forced to download it this week. Most of the time it’s in my way and the conversation summaries are not accurate. I don’t see much use for that application other than it probably training AI to take our jobs. Another failed use of Schwab trying to force AI into the business.
Which positions inside exxonmobil tend to be safest vs. most a risk - Chat GPT AI Summary
Inside ExxonMobil, job security varies a lot by function. The pattern isn’t about “good vs. bad jobs”—it’s about how directly a role ties to revenue and how easy it is to cut or outsource.
Here’s how it typically breaks down:
Roles that tend to be more stable
1) Core operations (production & refining)
Field operators (oil & gas production)
Refinery technicians
Maintenance crews for critical infrastructure
Why they’re safer:
These roles keep oil and gas flowing—the company literally can’t operate without them. Even during downturns, ExxonMobil usually trims elsewhere first.
2) High-value technical specialists
Petroleum engineers
Reservoir engineers
Geoscientists (especially in active drilling regions)
Certain chemical engineers tied to refining
Why:
They directly impact how much oil/gas is found and produced → tied to revenue.
The more your work affects output or efficiency, the safer you generally are.
3) Project-critical roles during growth phases
Engineers and managers on major projects (e.g., offshore developments, LNG, carbon capture)
Why:
If Exxon has already committed billions to a project, they don’t stop midway unless conditions are extreme.
4) New strategic areas (selectively stable)
Carbon capture
Hydrogen
Lower-emissions technologies
Why:
These are long-term investments, though still smaller and not immune to cuts.
Roles with moderate risk
5) IT and data roles (mixed stability)
Data engineers, cybersecurity → more stable
General IT support → more vulnerable
Why:
Some are mission-critical; others can be outsourced or consolidated.
6) Mid-level management
Supervisors, team leads
Why:
They’re needed, but during restructuring Exxon often “flattens” layers of management.
Roles that are most at risk during layoffs
7) Corporate / back-office functions
HR
Finance (non-core roles)
Legal support
Communications / PR
Why:
These don’t directly generate revenue and are easier to cut or centralize.
8) Administrative and support roles
Admin assistants
Internal support staff
Why:
Often reduced through automation or outsourcing.
9) Early-career / less specialized roles
Entry-level positions without niche expertise
Why:
They’re easier to replace or eliminate compared to highly specialized staff.
10) Roles tied to declining or non-core assets
Staff in fields or refineries being sold or shut down
Why:
When Exxon exits a region or asset, those jobs often disappear or transfer.
One important nuance
Even “safe” roles aren’t immune.
Example:
During the COVID downturn, even engineers at ExxonMobil were laid off.
But cuts were still heavier in corporate and support functions.
Simple rule of thumb
Ask yourself:
“If this role disappeared tomorrow, would production or revenue drop immediately?”
Yes → safer
No → higher risk

Therefore there is no need for layoffs.
We are safe.
No need to worry.
In a really bad phase
Being asked to move. I will be sole-earner. I can move but I am seeing a lot of surpluses right after move. So am wondering if I will be jobless in new location, if there are more surpluses. Did anybody find themselves in this situation?
Are surgical layoffs how they do it now?
Instead of a major round, a few people get cut here, a few there? I'll be honest, I'd much prefer a single round and knowing I was safe after it than having to worry every single day if my team is next.
BNY’s Digital Workforce Is Growing—Your Career Should Too
BNY Mellon’s shift toward AI, digital workers, and platform‑based operations is reshaping job families across the bank. Roles built on repetitive processing, documentation, reconciliations, onboarding, KYC refresh, and basic QA are being automated or moved to lower‑cost hubs. As the company expands its agentic‑AI model—where one employee supervises dozens of autonomous agents—traditional career paths in operations and service centers will continue to narrow.
Employees can protect their careers by moving toward the work AI cannot easily replace. The most resilient paths include:
- AI governance, model oversight, and risk controls
- Exception handling and complex client‑service roles
- Data quality, lineage, and supervisory functions
- Platform product management and workflow design
BNY Mellon is also training thousands of employees to build and manage AI agents. Learning these tools—prompting, workflow orchestration, and agent supervision—positions employees for the emerging “human‑in‑the‑loop” roles that will grow as automation expands.
The most vulnerable job families are those tied to manual processing, standardized workflows, and mid‑skill operational tasks. Over time, many of these roles will consolidate or disappear entirely.
The strongest strategy is to pivot early: build AI‑adjacent skills, move toward analytical or client‑facing work, and position yourself where judgment, escalation, and oversight—not repetition—define the role. Learning to become a carpenter or electrician are also attractive options.
Ai anxiety
Is the AI hype just a bubble, or is it a legitimate threat to our jobs? Curious to hear if you think it’s just a proof of concept or if we should actually be worried about workforce disruption.

BREAKING: Verizon CEO Dan Schulman says US unemployment will hit up to 30% in the next two to five years due to AI.
#POLYMARKET: 📰 🔗 ( LinkedIn ).
🚨 BREAKING: #Verizon CEO Dan Schulman says US unemployment will hit up to 30% in the next two to five years due to AI. Here's why:
Dan Schulman, who took over as #Verizon CEO last October, told the Wall Street Journal that #unemployment at that scale is his genuine forecast — not a warning, a projection.
Currently on Polymarket there's an 82% chance tech #layoffs will be up in 2026 in comparison to 2025 (447,000 layoffs).
He said manual laborers will eventually be replaced by humanoid robots and called on other CEOs to stop hedging and tell employees the truth. A month into his tenure, Schulman backed his words with action: a $20M fund to retrain 13,000 workers whose jobs Verizon expects AI to eliminate. He called it the first corporate fund specifically designed to address AI displacement, and said he intends to push other companies and the public sector to build similar programs.
The macro picture behind Schulman's warning is already taking shape. BCG published a report projecting that 50 to 55 percent of all US jobs will be materially impacted by AI in the coming years, with up to 15 percent wiped out entirely. Snap just laid off 16% of its workforce and cited AI as the reason smaller teams can now do the same work. The pattern is the same across industries: fewer people, faster output, AI as the justification. Most CEOs are framing this as efficiency. Schulman is calling it what it is. #ai #verizon #jobs 🔗 🤖

LHH
Anyone working with LHH that was JE’d? Are they helping? Did you find employment using their service?
Any actual PEOPLE updates?
Seeing updates about the technology the company will be using, but nothing about when people will receive updates about jobs or locations. Isn’t closing in 2 weeks? The communication on this from leadership is completely lacking.

Is anyone else being told to train their AI replacement?
Used to be great
This was a genuinely good place not long ago. The last three years have been a steady decline. Culture, pay and benefits, job security, all sliding. Now I've completely lost faith things will ever improve again.
Do you know what I hate?
We used to have job security. No matter what, I knew I had some stability. I could buy a house or a car because I felt safe. Now my mortgage feels like a noose around my neck since I can't tell anymore if I'll have my job from day to day. It's really sad how much things have changed for the worse.
We're no longer the first choice for engineers
I think we've slipped down almost to the bottom of the list, judging by the quality of new hires.
Oldest coworker around you?
I'm a level 7 individual contributor in tech in my early fifties. With four kids soon all in college and a late start (last year) on active retirement investment, I plan to work till age 65. I actually enjoy my work and my team at Fidelity.
Assuming I wont' be laid off, is it a realistic expectation to work till that age, as an individual contributor or should I transition into one of those "leadership" roles to stay on longer?
The stain on my resume
I only worked at DXC a short time, but long enough to see what it's really like. If that place ever had a good reputation in the industry, it's destroyed now. I hate that I have to put its name on my resume. It doesn't help me. In fact, I have a feeling it probably hurts me.
Palm Beach County Schools May Cut Jobs for Teacher Pay
The Palm Beach County school board is considering a difficult decision regarding teacher salaries. The district indicates that a 3.5% teacher pay raise could lead to 192 layoffs and cuts to student services. Educators propose funding these raises by eliminating 454 existing vacant teacher positions instead. Declining student enrollment, with 7,000 fewer students, contributes to the district's budget challenges. The school board is scheduled to vote on the final salary plan on May 6.

Any layoffs soon? Should I join Qualcomm?
Hello, my name is Nitesh,
A friend told me that this is a good place to ask insiders about possible layoffs.
I received an offer from Qualcomm (in India) and I do not know if I should accept it. Some of my friends at Oracle were laid off and I do not want to suffer the same way.
Thanks for any information in advance.
Osceola manufacturing plant closing

How does this even work?
CFO got a $26 million bonus after layoffs. Doesn't that negate the loss of a whole bunch of jobs?
Finally landed something else!
Took forever, over a year. I almost threw in the towel. So glad I didn't. It's a much smaller company, pay is comparable, and they actually seem stable. Fingers crossed they don't go under or slash headcount the week I show up. Either way, best of luck to everyone still looking. Stay persistent. Don't quit. The market is brutal, worse than I remember, but there are still jobs out there.
They laid me off and now they're hiring for the same role
Just saw a job posting for the exact position I was let go from a few months ago. Does anyone making these decisions have any shame? Has this happened to anyone else? It's a slap in the face honestly.
Struggling with a job offer after being laid off
Got laid off last year and have been searching for months. Finally landed an offer but the commute is rough. About 75 minutes each way with traffic. I used to work from home for nearly six years before all this, so the thought of doing that drive three days a week is making me feel sick. After eight months of looking, I'm scared to say no even though I'm not desperate financially. Anyone been in this spot?

Pay Attention: AI Isn’t a Tool — It’s the Strategy
BNY employees increasingly describe changes that align with the AI‑driven cost‑reduction strategies McKinsey promotes to large financial institutions.
The most visible shift we see is the steady automation of repetitive, rules‑based work that RV brags about in the media — onboarding, KYC refresh, reconciliations, service requests, and exception routing. Employees report that tasks once handled by full teams are now processed through AI‑enabled workflows, reducing the need for manual roles and shrinking job families.
Decision‑support AI is also reshaping middle‑skill positions. Workers note fewer analyst roles, broader spans of control, and more “AI‑assisted” oversight, which mirrors McKinsey’s recommendation to streamline mid‑tier functions by embedding intelligence into platforms rather than people.
The Platform Operating Model (P-O-M) accelerates this transition. Employees describe work being standardized, centralized, and moved offshore once AI reduces the skill threshold required. This matches McKinsey’s model: automate first, relocate second.
The impact on employees is becoming clearer. Career paths in legacy operations, service, and processing roles are narrowing as automation absorbs institutional knowledge and reduces the value of tenure. Job security is declining in functions where work can be digitized, offshored, or both. New roles are emerging in AI governance, data quality, and exception management — but not in volumes that offset reductions.
Employee reports consistently reflect the same conclusion: AI is not just a tool at BNY; it is a restructuring engine.
