Half my time goes to completely useless meetings

Why do managers feel the need to drone endlessly about the obvious? Best I can tell, maybe 10% is actually instructive, the other 90% is just a ritual to make them feel important. People have stopped asking genuine questions, it’s too risky. It'll just extend the agony, and the answers won't come anyway.

And Now for something completely different - the upcoming IBM Annual Meeting and Let's Create D-mber Business

Dunno about the rest of you out in cyberspace, but I made sure that I got my printed copy of the upcoming IBM Shareholders Business meeting and what the agenda is all about. It's an eyeopener for quite a lot of stuff and if you're an IBM shareholder you should insist on your written copy too or you'll miss some really interesting facts like

  1. The executive committee under Alvind did NOT meet even ONCE in 2025 ! Sounds to me like they were paid for doing nothing but sitting around.

  2. Krabanaugh is on the Executive retention plan from the mid-1990s but no other executives are on this cushy plan. Most of the rules of the plan are outdated and out of touch with today's reality. Kavanaugh has got his exit plan together and it's a gold mine.

  3. The biggest corporate shareholders are Vanguard (10.03%), Blackrock Inc. (8.3%) and State Street Corp. (6.03%)....so, now you know who drives Alvind's limo and why. LOL !

  4. these external IBM directors are making $365,000 on average but there's not a lot showing for that.

There's plenty of more interesting revelations (mostly financial), so if you are a shareholder, order your copy from your bank, your brokerage or your granny (if she is an IBM shareholder)...the schmucks who put this stuff together are trying desperately to convince (spelled "con") that IBM and it's thieving executives are providing value for $$$ through AI and hybrid cloud platforms. Oh really ?? (No mention of layoffs though)

Monday & Tuesday - for Canada and the US

  • Meeting invites are going out Monday (Canada) and Tuesday (U.S.).
  • Not sure if this is limited to my GBU or affects everyone at Oracle.
  • VPs would have known on Friday...assuming managers get told Monday am or VPs do the work, and then everything is executed

I’d like to keep anonymous, so I’m not going to mention my GBU.

Tentative

All my meetings are showing tentative for tomorrow and I can't switch to busy. Fingers crossed at this point that I wake up to a 15 minute meeting. Im prepared.

How many people are cc’ed and how many go to needless meetings

I’ve never seen anything like WFC when it comes to this. The reason people are busy is because they are cc’ed in a million emails. Seriously if you have to cc the entire team with rare exceptions your team su-ks.
And god- some people live to attend meetings. They never contribute and aren’t a decision maker but by god they turn up every week and stay for the whole thing. Almost as bad as the people running a meeting that covers all of their items in 25 minutes and then just keep talking to fill the whole hour. This is why we are inefficient. So much cya culture. Like god forbid the day you don’t attend the needless meeting and that’s the day something gets decided and then your boss pretends it’s the end of the world. Instead of just filling you in and moving on.

quit last hear

here is a quick rant and i hope it helps someone…

i was sitting in a meeting at work when i made the decision that changed everything.
my boss was talking. i don’t even remember what about — something minor, some non-issue being stretched into a conversation because that’s what meetings are. and i was sitting there half-listening, the way you do after enough years, and i just looked at him and thought it so clearly. i cannot do this anymore. not another ten years. not five. not one.
which sounds dramatic maybe. but i’d done everything right. two degrees, years of showing up, taking on responsibility, being the person who got things done. i did what you’re supposed to do. and there i was in my 50s, still just making it month to month. still waiting for something to shift.
i walked out of that meeting — not stormed out, just quietly left — got a coffee, sat down with a notebook, and wrote one sentence.

i am never, ever working for anybody else as long as i live.

i had no idea how i was going to make that true. none (it turned out well) but that almost didn’t matter, not right then. what mattered was i meant it. fully, no asterisk. and i knew i wasn’t going to talk myself back out of it the next morning like i probably had before.

i wasn’t going to sleepwalk through my own life again. that part i was sure of.

1400 Smith Lobby Closed

1400 Smith Lobby Closed the rest of the week. They want everyone coming into 1400 to use 1500 street entrances. "They" really should give the option to WFH this week
for the days those working in 1400 don't have any F2F meetings. It makes it su-k less for all involved, both those with and without F2F meetings.

Last week I did not come into the office but worked from home all week. I didn't tell my manager either. Friday afternoon I got a email from HR

about a Tuesday morning Teams meeting they want to do with me and that I do not need to be in the office for this meeting. I have been thinking if they caught me or not. In any given week I may see my Ford manager once if at all when we pass each other in the hallway. Manager is away from our group a lot saying they have a lot of meetings to attend to in other buildings.
I'm not sure yet if I will do Tuesday's morning meeting with HR at my home or go into the office an do it there.

Dell FRS.. what a joke!

Dell just held its field readiness submit (FRS). In principle, it’s a great idea. It’s essentially a sales kick off, with one distinct difference… no individual contributors (account executives and presales) are in attendance at all - only managers. The last time we checked, managers don’t sell.. what an absolute joke! Instead, individual contributors watch online / virtual contact. Wake up dell leadership!!!!
