Minnesota Companies That Cut Jobs in July: See the Full List

Over 250 Minnesota workers will lose their jobs as four companies filed WARN notices in July. These filings indicate mass layoffs or facility closures across the state. Northern Iron in St. Paul is ceasing operations entirely by year-end, impacting 86 employees. Pearson's Candy Company will close its St. Paul manufacturing facility, affecting 80 workers due to financial unsustainability. Acuity Brands Lighting is closing its Winona plant, with an unspecified number of employees affected. Transdev Services in Rochester will close its facility after its city contract ends, impacting approximately 84 employees.

Job openings at Fidelity

Looks like there are about 88k employees at Fidelity and only about 800 job openings. According to AI stats available online, a company that has over 80k employees should have between 1,600 to 4,000 open positions at any given time. This represents roughly 2% to 5% of the total workforce. Does anyone know why the number is so low for Fidelity? Is this typical in the financial services industry? Just curious!

Does anyone have any insight?

I'm an employee under BTS. We've had a bunch of people take the VSP. Wendy left (so curious what happened there). A VP Katie took the VSP. My question is: I've interviewed for an apartment manager gig. I would hate the job with a passion. I get a discount on rent (potentially free rent in the future but they haven't confirmed). I would get way less pay, less holidays off, less pto. My thing is I love what I do and I'm even helping a new department who is already struggling with less employees now. I'm a new Centene employee (came over from another company's layoff). My question, does anyone have any insight for the chance of layoffs? I would hate to turn down a job just to be let go here but I would also hate my life if I took that job.

Stern Show Staff Cuts Revealed

Howard Stern's show has undergone significant staff reductions in two separate layoff waves. At least 50 employees, comprising two-thirds of the total staff, have been terminated. These cuts occurred in February and again in July, impacting both behind-the-scenes and on-air personnel. The layoffs follow Stern's contract renewal with SiriusXM, despite his earlier comments suggesting job security for his team. Some affected employees were reportedly offered severance packages with non-disclosure agreements.

Quality department - Florida market I’m stressed! Help me decide

I work in the Quality Department at Centene in Florida. Have you guys heard anything about what’s going on with the Quality team? Our Senior Director is stepping down, and I’ve noticed a lot of changes lately, especially with our metrics.

We’re now expected to abstract 50 charts a day because upper management wants to see higher production numbers. I honestly feel like a robot. I’ve been working past my scheduled hours without getting paid just to keep up with the workload. I didn’t sign the VSP, but I’m starting to think about leaving if I continue getting fails and having to work past 5 PM just to meet expectations.

The frustrating part is that I’m meeting productivity and I’m actually one of the top producers on my team, but my accuracy has been dropping because of all the changes and the pressure to rush through charts. It feels like no one really cares about the quality of the work anymore as long as the numbers are there.

We also have around 30 people from QI leaving, and none of us really know what other changes are coming. At this point, I’m feeling drained. I’ve never felt this way working at Centene before.

My accuracy has been dropping, and honestly, I’m getting to the point where I don’t even care because the expectations don’t feel fair. If my manager tells me I need to bring my accuracy up, I’m going to be pi---d. How can you tell me to improve my accuracy while also dumping a huge number of charts on me that require careful review, but expecting me to rush through them just to hit a number?

Is this a reasonable reason to start looking for another job? I don’t know if I’m overreacting, but this has become exhausting.

Does MDT ever really fire anyone?

How bad does one have to be at their job to get fired? If someone is getting their stuff done, generally in line with expectations but that someone doesn’t really fit in with the popular crowd, could they get fired.

So done working here

The message im getting of late is “I want you to do the job but I don’t trust you to do the job”. Questioning why we need certain resource skill sets. Not everything can be given to AI especially if you work on 3rd party solutions. But I still need the pay check. Job market is so competitive out there

One hundred employees will lose their jobs in south central Pennsylvania. These layoffs are a direct consequence of a Defense Logistics Agency contract task order concluding. Etsy Streamlines Operations with Workforce Reduction

Etsy is implementing layoffs affecting approximately 12% of its workforce, totaling around 220 employees. This strategic move aims to simplify the company's structure and accelerate innovation in a competitive e-commerce landscape. The job cuts are intended to position Etsy for future growth and greater focus, rather than being a cost-saving measure. Most affected employees are from the product and engineering departments. The company's CEO stated these changes are necessary to build the organization for Etsy's next phase of development.

AI is coming for your job

For the past couple years I have been working on AI projects that have been kept silent because they will be replacing a lot of jobs/people on campus. Get your money right and prepare yourself. They don’t care about you.

Boomerang back to Cisco

I’m wondering whether it’s worth taking a job in the meantime to secure better opportunities later. I previously left for a $40K increase because I was severely underpaid, but I’ve heard that some departments have significantly increased compensation for external hires. However, once you’re inside, it becomes pretty difficult to move up if your team already has strong talent, since the bonus pool is small.

My question is which departments are good to join first, then later shop around for a better internal/external opportunity once it appears? I’d rather keep working than have a large gap on my resume.

I’ve heard SBG mentioned where I used to work was impacted by the $4K cuts this summer. How are STO, Meraki, Data, Collaboration, etc.? For context, I’m a SWE.

Virginia Sees Significant Summer Job Losses

Virginia is experiencing a substantial increase in job losses this summer, with over 430 individuals expected to be laid off in August alone. Since June 21, nearly 3,000 people have lost their jobs, marking a more than 50 percent rise compared to the same period last year. This summer's job cuts are more than triple the number recorded in 2024. Overall, the state has seen approximately 1,000 more job losses announced year-to-date in 2026 compared to 2025. Several companies, including T&H Services LLC and Times Fiber Communications, are contributing to these figures through closures and layoffs.

The cruel irony

The worst part of hating your job is knowing you can't quit until you find another one. And you can't find another one these days unless you fully devote your time to job search, which is impossible if you already have one. It's a trap that has me stuck at Elevance despite my deep hatred for this place.

August Job Cuts Announced

New Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filings reveal upcoming layoffs across various industries. These notices are required for companies with over 100 employees planning significant workforce reductions. While the labor market has shown resilience, uncertainty and a shift from rapid expansion contribute to these cuts. Many filings indicate restructuring within specific units or locations rather than company-wide actions. Upcoming federal employment reports will provide further insight into the labor market's trajectory.

They say they want a market-based culture. The market has been speaking for years.

AT&T used to compete for the best talent in the country. Today, it feels like we’re competing for the best talent willing to relocate to a handful of hub cities and accept five-day RTO.

The people walking out the door aren’t just headcount. They’re decades of institutional knowledge, technical expertise, customer relationships, and experience that can’t be replaced by posting another job opening.

“Leadership” seems to think talent is interchangeable. But we know it isn’t.

You can backfill a position in a few months. It can take years for someone to become truly effective in many of these roles, and by then they may already be looking for their next opportunity.

A real market-based culture works both ways. If you expect employees to compete in the market every day, then the company has to compete for employees too. That means offering a compelling reason to stay, whether that’s compensation, flexibility, culture, career growth, or meaningful work.

Right now, it feels like the strategy is to shrink the talent pool through geography, push experienced people out, and hope everything works out.

Hope isn’t a strategy and neither is assuming talent is infinitely replaceable.

People are asking the right questions

Visa has announced plans to reduce its global workforce by about 7%, eliminating roughly 2,600 jobs as the payments giant streamlines operations and redirects resources toward higher-growth areas. The layoffs have sparked discussion online, with many questioning whether job cuts are still tied to employee performance.

This school will be gone by next year!

The promise of not laying off anyone but then days later everyone gets an early email! So disheartening and the firing of researchers and not giving a dam. What's the point of this college if not for research? All of this will bite them in the butt and opening up schools overseas is ridiculous 🙄 Everyone higher up needs to be FIRED! As well hiring people that do not know how to do their job! Why are contacting seniors in the summer who have already picked their colleges! Those new deans do not care about students and treat it as a business!!

Got the news today

So today was when everyone was officially given notice if they got the position . So turns out the people who been here the Logan’s and didn’t take the package and applied for the rtm role were not offered the job. Big surprise . Instead the ones with less time with the company were the ones who received the position. Company is totally trying to get rid of the old timers with the big salaries. I believe once the company gets settled in they will
Also get rid of all the ones who got the position who clearly weren’t qualified since the beginning . It’s all a scheme to get rid of the old timers. Shady company
