Just curious for those that were laid off in July 2024 how your job search went or is still ongoing? I still see some people on LinkedIn who never updated their position which makes me believe many are still out of work. On one hand, I feel for your struggles, but on the other hand, I honestly think it’s a blessing to not have to deal with the turmoil.

I was laid off in 2023, and despite applying to several jobs I'm qualified at T-Mo, I'm not getting called back. I've written the HR rep (that I previously connected with while employed) and she is not responding.

Is there anyway to learn what your standing is with the company? I was there a long time, and I'm feeling shunned now...

There no reason not to update your resume this weekend and start sending it into some companies your interested in. I’m sending mine to a few places to at least get the ball rolling if Larry kicks me to the curb.

Either you can reject the new job, take a new job or at minimum start finding the next gig.

Somebody I know had an offer pulled by Schwab a week after he accepted it, no proper reason provided. Does anybody know why this could have happened?

I was convinced I'd be long gone by now. This shows you just how bad the job market is. Despite my best efforts, over a year of searching and still nothing.

I’ve been looking for a new job for a while, and every time I get to the final interview, I get rejected. It’s mentally draining and discouraging. After so many close calls, it’s hard to stay motivated or maintain any sense of confidence. It's starting to feel like they're intentionally wasting my time. Or I'm just getting paranoid on top of everything else.

Every company I look at is either frozen, shrinking, or only taking a handful of new employees.

I’m nearing 50 and I see how fast people my age get pushed out at Xerox. Friends with years of experience are still out there searching. It is crazy to me how companies just toss aside everything you have learned like it never mattered as soon as you hit a certain age.

Being laid off right now, when everybody is letting people go and nobody is hiring is scary as fu--ing he-l. I've been trying to find something for the past few months assuming something like this might happen and I had no luck. I truly hope they have better luck and land something right away.

I would’ve left Oracle in a heartbeat. The stress is eating me alive. I think I’ve reached the point where all of this is just getting to me way too much.

What’s been your experience with the job search lately? I’ve been looking for months, and honestly, I’m open to creative ideas and stepping well outside my comfort zone. I won’t go into praising or bashing Ford. I’m just personally burned out after years here that led nowhere. On top of that, I’m flat-out bored with my job. Maybe it’s not the best timing for a change, but I need one badly.

I did an internship this past summer and was extended an offer in PD (engineer). I found this site researching Ford's stability. Is this site representative of your experiences? Looking for advice.

If I was an individual contributor it might be easier to focus on the work by day while preparing a job search at night. But I have direct reports looking to me for clarity, people who are worried and hoping for answers, raises, and promotions. Meantime all I know comes from the news and these boards. I don’t understand the rationale behind leaking layoff targets to the press (again) and being asked (again) to carry on as normal for the next two months while trust erodes.

Is anyone having any luck securing employment? I have had no luck after applying to many so called openings. Reading other boards there are many others in the same boat, and I personally have not seen it this bad before. It seems like most of the job postings only exist to get information from people to be sold to others. Did companies just stop hiring? Even outside oil and gas the same seems to be going on.

Been looking for a change and there is nothing out there. I have many friends that put in applications all day long and get nothing. Anyone having any luck with petro-tech jobs? It is not only this industry as well, buy seems to be across the board.

Getting laid off is stressful no matter what, but there are still solid opportunities if you know your stuff. I found a new role even when people said the market was tough. It is nerve-wracking at first, but landing a good position makes it all feel worth it.

I didn’t want to have to start interviewing again, but the situation left me no choice. The thought of sending out resumes and preparing for interviews feels draining, but staying in a place that doesn’t value your work to this extent is even worse. I'll rather be uncomfortable then staying here longer than I have to.

I've learned the hard way that just because jobs are listed online doesn’t mean the company is actually hiring. Some postings feel more like window dressing than real opportunities. It wastes my time and achieves absolutely nothing. It's infuriating, if you want the truth.

The offers are above the market. Judging by their boards, they need marketers, designers, strategists and sales. It's a mess there. Take advantage of chaos.

Hey all, I’m a geo looking for my second role and thinking about whether it’s worth applying to Permian Resources if something comes up. I’ve seen a lot of harsh feedback - poor culture, little support, high turnover, and I’m honestly hesitant. Jobs are scarce though, so I’m wondering is it really that bad, or are there any redeeming qualities? Would appreciate any honest insights.

Morale is so low that most people just do enough to get by. I used to care a lot, but now I wouldn’t even mind if they let me go. I’ve started applying elsewhere because this place doesn’t make you feel valued anymore.

Keep your resume polished and LinkedIn updated because opportunities can appear out of nowhere. Start building a solid emergency fund, ideally six months to a year of living expenses, so you aren’t scrambling if things go south. Try to avoid major purchases and trim unnecessary spending now, even small savings add up. And if the worst happens, use any severance wisely, take a breather, and give yourself time to regroup. Staying organized and calm can make a stressful situation much more manageable.

I’ve been let go 27 weeks now. No interviews and no offers. I had one call back but with no decades long experience managing VMWare, that prescreen was over in 5 minutes.

I no longer want to give my energy or care to my work. I am currently looking for a new role because this company does not seem to get any better by the day.

Hey all, I was among the 21 last week. I am so sad. HR told us we were going to be supported during our 60 day job hunt but they were no where to be found. I'm certain none of us had a chance to find a new role at Target. My team is talented, respected, and qualified for a lot of the open roles yet none of us could land anything. We HUSTLED in the 60 days. I personally applied to 16 different internal roles my skills would have made sense for and I got one interview which was amazing but I got rejected. Same story with 4 others on my team. I am convinced we never had a chance and it pi---s me off they led us on. Stupid i know but I didn't apply externally at all because I wanted to stay so badly. Lesson learned. 18 years with the company and no thank yous or I'm sorry from leadership. It stings but now I know how it is. I was so naive having grown up there.

If you are still employed at FIS, do yourself a favor and update your resume. It’s a tough job market out there and you need a head start or at least 3-4 months. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable and do better for yourself!

I’ve been applying for jobs since May—over 500 applications so far—and haven’t gotten a single interview. I’ve even seen some of the same jobs I applied for get reposted. What is going on? Is it just me, or is everyone experiencing this? It’s really wearing me down. My daily commute eats up 3 hours, and I desperately need either a remote position or something closer to my home in Maryland.
