Oregon Legislature Prevents ODOT Layoffs and Service Cuts

The Oregon Department of Transportation avoided layoffs and major service cuts. Legislation passed to address a $297 million budget shortfall. This action redirected $218 million from existing state transportation funds. Some grant programs, including Safe Routes to School, will experience reduced funding. Lawmakers plan to revisit the state's long-term transportation funding model in 2027.

Upcoming Cuts

From Bloomberg:

  • Capital One will lay off 1,139 employees after acquiring Discover Financial Services in 2024.
  • About half of the layoffs affect Illinois workers, mainly at Discover’s Riverwoods headquarters.
  • Additional employees work remotely but report to teams based in Riverwoods.
  • None of the layoffs involve front-line customer-facing positions.
  • Capital One has cut 1,748 jobs total since late 2025.
  • Layoffs are part of integrating Discover into Capital One after the $35 billion merger.
  • Most workers leave by May 4, with final departures scheduled by Oct. 2, and will receive severance and career support.

Is the 30:70 - U.S:HIH split real?

I saw some comments about how there is a push from leadership to restructure teams into a 30:70 - U.S.:HIH split.

I wanted to see if multiple people can verify this.

I know HIH is growing and they’re cutting US FTE but how true is the 30:70 split? If it’s true, then that’s all of us finished in the US

FT contract

The contract will be revoked and all the people servicing FT will lose their jobs, that's how this farce is going to end. They keep firing experienced people for a bit of saving and hiring unqualified juniors in their place. This is not a valid strategy and both the clients and FT feel that, and it's already happening. I wish it wasn't so but it will happen sooner or later.

The system they built

Let me explain how it works here. First, actual performance is irrelevant. The people who work the hardest and produce the most are seen as threats, so they get cut, while the mediocre ones who keep their heads down and do not rock the boat stay. That is the goal: mediocrity across the board. Second, if you refuse to bow to a manager who has no business leading, you are done. They will find a way to get rid of you, and when there is no legitimate case, they cheat. They will lie, plant stories, and turn your own team against you. I have seen it happen to three people, good people who simply would not accept abuse. This is not an exception. This is the entire system.

How many of y'all are from Nexient - now merged into NTT?

Wondering how many of you all in here are from the core Nexient company?

Really miss the old days where stuff was running so much smoother, Nexient as a whole was much better than NTT and layoffs? Pft, unheard of from me in Nexient.

Please tell me I am not the only one in here.

Again, it's not AI

AI isn't taking people's jobs. Here's what's really happening

Oracle's layoffs show that the people losing jobs aren't losing them because AI can do their work. They're losing them to money spent on chips and data centers

It's good being able to watch from a distance

I spent years at Humana and genuinely loved chunks of it. The mission, the work, some of the people. But the last couple years were rough. The workload became impossible, the appreciation dried up, and the manager we had, I've never seen someone less suited to lead. He ran through good people like they were nothing. I went to management repeatedly, told them I was overwhelmed, and offered solutions that would help everyone. Each time they found a reason to say no. It was either too hard, or too different, or not how we do things. Eventually I left. Now I'm watching what's happening from a distance and all I can say is I am so glad to be out.

PwC Reduces US Workforce Amid Low Employee Departures

PwC is laying off approximately 1,500 employees from its US workforce. This represents about 2% of its total US staff. The firm attributes these reductions to historically low employee attrition rates. Layoffs primarily affect the audit and tax divisions. PwC is also slowing new hiring and internship offers.

They better hurry with the layoffs

It’s not just me. Employees have stopped working. As the rumors continue, people are sitting and waiting. Why invest any effort at all if you’re gone “Tomorrow”. If Oracle wants to resume normal business , they better move past the layoffs rumors and make it happen. At this point workers have stepped off the playing field while they await word of their employment. Productivity has ground to a halt.

Tech Layoffs Hit 45,000 in March 2026, 9,200 Linked to AI

Tech layoffs reached over 45,000 globally in early 2026. Approximately 20% of these reductions, totaling over 9,200 jobs, are linked to AI implementation. Block accounted for the largest single cut with 4,000 layoffs, driven by AI tool capabilities. Other companies like WiseTech Global, Livspace, eBay, and Pinterest also reduced staff due to AI strategies. Firms are restructuring operations around AI-driven workflows to boost efficiency and automate tasks.

Voice+ Survey, then lay offs? Has anyone heard anything?

Last year, there was a big push in EVDD to get our Voice+ surveys done early. They were aiming for 100% participation, almost making it feel like a fun competition between orgs. We all want our team to shine with the highest participation so many submitted early as requested

But looking back, it’s interesting to note that layoffs happened right before the survey deadline. It was obvious they wanted to gather all the positive feedback before they cut headcount. May 13 was the layoff date last year. I heard the Voice+ survey will open on April 14 this year. Not sure on the deadline though.

We have a new executive…he’s not just going to keep things as they are. He will want change. Are they tracking to do the same this year. Interested to hear if anyone heard anything.

Chances are

If you work for DXC you are right where you belong.
The good people have long ago left leaving behind groups of dead wood.
Sad part is, the dead wood are the ones that don't leave and are whining..
If you are working for this company in the US, you are on borrowed time. But if you are just hiding there, ride it out. Your next job will no doubt be a mimimum wager anyway.
Probably at Wal Mart or its equivalent
Glad to be gone after 10 years of carrying deadwood. ON ALL Levels!

How do you actually focus at work when layoffs are coming and leadership has checked out?

Morale is in the gutter, and leadership clearly doesn’t care about keeping people motivated.
It’s ki-ling my ability to concentrate. Everything feels pointless when your work could vanish any day.
For anyone who’s been through this:

• How do you force yourself to stay productive?
• Do you keep performing at a high level, or just coast until it’s over?

Appreciate any realistic advice—especially from people who’ve survived multiple rounds.

Are layoffs negatively impacting NKE? Don’t think so.

I know there’s a lot of frustration about the layoffs at Nike Corporate, EHQ Tech, and recently Converse, and I’m hearing there may be another one coming in Tech. Layoffs are always tough on people.

But an honest question after 3000+ roles were eliminated, what major capability actually stopped working or broke? It feels like most operations have continued as before which suggests there was significant organizational bloat that likely needed to be addressed.

Ultimately, growth will only return when the product lineup improves. Not by avoiding layoffs.
