seems like they are firing mainly developers due to cost reductions / the on going climate and moving developers to India. everyone's benefits were terminated and at midnight and were given the a standard bare bones severance.

Question on Severance Payment Method and Tax Withholding
Will the severance be paid as a lump sum, or do we have the option to receive it as staggered/salary continuation payments?
If paid as a lump sum, what tax withholding rate will be applied?
Thank you for your help.
I've already made the decision that I'm leaving Chevron
The only question is how. I'm still here because I'm waiting to see if I can get laid off with a severance package. I don't want to quit and then find out I could have gotten something if I'd just waited a little longer.
Severance payback?
Is anyone actually required to pay back severance if they get hired at a new company? That’s how the contract reads as to me
Layoff would be a blessing at this point
Maybe God will have mercy on me and send me a severance package.
Everyone's leaving
I'm watching more and more people make their exit. One of my coworkers just left for a job that pays significantly less, and he says he's never been happier, and I believe him. Others are just hanging on, waiting for a layoff so they can get severance and then they're gone too. I think management thinks they're saving money, but losing all this talent is going to cost them far more in the long run.
When does severance kick in?
How many years do you need to be here to get severance?
What's the better option?
If I wait to be laid off, I'll get severance and unemployment (allowed in my state), but I'll be competing with everyone else who got cut for very few available jobs. If I quit, I get nothing but I can have a new job ready before I leave so there is no uncertainty. Neither option is ideal. I'm sure others have been mulling this over as well, I'm curious what you've decided to do.
Bloomington Surplus
25 union members who are collection reps just got the vtp (voluntary termination pay) to leave the company. This is up to 104 weeks pay depending on seniority. This is only the beginning. It is expected that more will be surplussed until all union workers in Leg T are gone. Luckily for them however, they get a generous package to move on, thanks to the union negotiated contract. The payout, including money and medical, dental and vision benefits is much better than the severance pay that low level managers get. Too bad for them. Sooner or later, we'll all be laid off.
Burnout is doing their job for them
So many people are quitting from burnout. Leadership doesn't care because they don't have to pay severance. They think they're winning.
Any additional help?
I'm wondering if Allstate offers anything more than severance when laying people off. Job counseling, retraining, anything? Or is that too much to expect?
I hate everything about my job
I hate this job and this company. I'd leave if I could, but the market is awful. The only silver lining is that layoffs happen all the time, so I might get out with severance eventually.
The survivors aren't lucky
Months after my team was affected by layoffs, I'm still the one doing most of the work of those who were shown the door, with no extra compensation. If I'd been laid off, at least I'd have severance to live on while I looked for something else. This feels like a much worse outcome.
Why are you worried about cuts?
Severance is the only thing that gets me excited these days. This place has turned into a toxic nightmare and I can't see how staying here would be a positive for anybody. I check here in hope of hearing of more cuts coming, not in fear. Give me a package and I'm gone.
What is severance this times around for retail
What is the severance for retail this time around. What is the minimum and what is the max. Do you get all your stock, including what hasn’t vested?
Severance Negotiation During Recent Industry Layoffs
With the recent layoffs and RIFs across WPP, Publicis, Omnicom, and the broader industry, I know many people are navigating a difficult and deeply personal moment.
For those who are comfortable sharing, were you able to negotiate any part of your severance package? I am particularly interested in whether companies showed flexibility around severance duration, benefits coverage, bonus or commission payments, equity, or the timing and terms of separation agreements.
No need to share anything confidential or identify yourself publicly. My hope is simply to help people better understand what may be negotiable and advocate for themselves during an already challenging time.

Among the petition's core demands: a severance guarantee for any worker who is laid off, the option of voluntary departures ahead of any mandatory cuts, the elimination of forced-distribution performance ratings, and the ability for employees to take their severance in the form of extended paid leave.

VSP approval questions
If you received approval:
I. Personal or company email?
- Did it confirm severance package dollars?
- Were you given a specific separation date?
Thanks in advance
Where is attachment A of the Severance and General Release?
Some important information is contained in the Attachment A (severance amount, payment method), but it's not in the Severance document to sign.
Would HR take a volunteer ?
I didn’t get laid off this last round. I’m in VCG but not in retail. I was really hoping for a package. Has any one ever attempted to contact HR to see if that was an option? I would rather get some severance instead of just leaving with only a PTO payout.
When is severance actually paid out?
Wondering when severance is actually paid? Just got my last paycheck before the termination date. Any idea when the documents would be sent and when they would pay out severance?
ZeniMax Studios Faces WARN Act Inquiry
A law firm is investigating ZeniMax Online Studios for a potential violation of the WARN Act. The company recently notified the state of a mass layoff. This federal law requires employers to provide 60 days' advance notice for significant workforce reductions. The investigation will determine if ZeniMax provided adequate notice to its 213 affected employees. Employees may be entitled to severance pay if the notice period was insufficient.

International Paper Shuts Texas Facility
International Paper will permanently close its box plant in Carrollton, Texas, by the end of the third quarter. This closure will affect nearly all of the 64 employees at the facility. The company plans to assist affected workers with severance, benefits, and outplacement services. How is everyone feeling about severance packages?
K&L Gates Reduces Allied Professional Staff
K&L Gates has initiated significant workforce reductions affecting its allied professional roles. The firm confirmed these cuts represent approximately ten percent of this staff category. These actions are intended to streamline operations and better align with current business needs and future growth strategies. The firm stated it is providing support, including separation benefits and outplacement services, to affected employees. While the firm's statements focus on staff, some reports suggest junior lawyers may also have been impacted, though this has been officially denied.

Voluntary layoff
Is there a way to go above your managers head to be voluntarily laid off? I’m for sure leaving at the end of August regardless without telling anyone but it sure would be nice to get a piece of the severance cake.
Thank you
Question about severance
Does anyone know or from last round know this. If you take the severance, for example if I get paid out for 20 weeks, do I still qualify for six months unemployment or will it be six months minus the 20 weeks that Verizon paid me severance for?
Severance
Hi! Sorry to hear about more layoffs today. Those who were impacted can you share how the severance has been at your level? Both pay and equity? Thank you
Evicore folks
Are we getting out now or riding it out and seeing what happens? Trying to decide if it’s better to jump ship now or wait and see if they clear house if/ when we are sold… maybe can get a severance that way but then will be competing with others looking for jobs at the same time
Can you apply for internal roles after being laid off?
Or, to rephrase that, can you ask to be considered for a different role instead of taking the severance? And if nothing is available, then accept the severance instead?
Severance
Have any changes been made to severance? Can anybody who has been laid off share, please? I ask this each time and I know I'm probably being paranoid, but I always worry that they'll use any opportunity to further reduce the package, like they did several times before.
Update Tuesday was good color, Cuts
Citi logged about $800 million in severance expenses in the first half of the year and may set aside more for the second half, executives said Tuesday.
The New York-based lender had about 219,000 employees as of the second quarter, down about 5% from the year-earlier quarter (230,000 employees), and about 2% from the first quarter (224,000), according to a second-quarter earnings presentation.
“We may look at accelerating some of the structural efficiency actions and, in that case, take more severance in the second half,” Citi CFO Gonzalo Luchetti said during a conference call with analysts, declining to provide more detail. “If we see opportunities, we may do a bit more than we originally envisioned.”
Hello from a December layoff
Hello to my fellow 'soon to be ex' V-Teamers. I was laid off in Dec 2025 with a role of Sr. Technical Project Manager (6V). Unfortunately, with all of the lay offs, in VZ and elsewhere, finding a new job has been next to impossible. Both my severance and pitifully small unemployment have both been exhausted. The LHH service they set up for us did not help me in the slightest. I say this not to scare you, well, maybe a little, but to tell you you need to set reasonable expectations. You are most likely going to be in this for the long haul. For those left behind, continue to create as much of a nest egg as you can because you are most likely going to need in when the next round of lay offs happen.
Good luck and God Bless.
Active, ongoing commission fraud lawsuit
Did you know that CDW is currently being sued in Cook County, Illinois for wage theft, commission fraud, and unlawful pay structures? Check out Long v. CDW Government LLC, Case No. 2025L007458.
Long alleges that during the hiring and onboarding process “Coworker Success” (what an Orwellian name) and management and leadership presented misleading parameters regarding how commissions were calculated, tracked, and distributed. While we was employed Long asserts that CDW hid the true calculations and unlawfully reduce his commissions by applying unlawful structures without sellers’ knowledge.
If you’re in a sales role at CDW, I highly recommend you research the facts of this case. I’ve heard many similar stories at CDW, but most never make it to a filing because pays terminated employees minimal severance to secure a release of claims and NDA.
I want to assure everyone that Verizon is not the end
I took thr VSP in 2019. I used my severance to start my own business that is now thriving. It's very environmentally friendly and DEI. I found a huge plot of land in Mississippi and established a farm. We only use man and animal power so there's no pollution. In fact all my employees are required to live in on site housing and we produce our own food and clothing so there's no need for them to have cars. We're committed to supporting the black community. In fact, the vast majority of my workforce is black. Though we do have a small staff of non blacks that oversee operations from the offices that built in the big white house that came with the land.
Do new employees get severance?
With under 6 months here?
Direct to indirect conversion is not so bad
You get 3 weeks for every year you worked as a severence and all the indirects offer you a job in the same location. Y’all knew it was coming…take the package and keep a job or collect UI. Not many other job losses at other companies come with a fail safe.
Negotiating severance
Has anybody tried to negotiate their severance, especially from this most recent layoff? Tips, tricks etc … they denied my counter
