Finding entire skill set is obsolete. World is completely different than the one we lived in. No one understands what I worked on for 15 years and if I can bring any value to them.

I've been job hunting for months. Calling the market "slim pickings" is generous, and it's only going to get worse. We're heading toward a place where beggars can't be choosers. Anything, anywhere, for any amount of time, will have to do.

I was laid off last month and received severance. I will also apply for unemployment, and I know that unemployment doesn't start to pay until after the severance # weeks passes. Do I have to show that I'm looking for a job during that severance period, or am I able to take a break for a few weeks before starting my job search? I just want to make sure I can still qualify for unemployment in a few months if I don't start looking for a job right away. I'm in Minnesota if that matters.

Nevernorth pretty much literally unalived me at this point. 2/19 here we are 4/1 and I can't land a job for the life of me. Only place left to go is 6ft.

That's the only reason I'm going along with rebadging. After that, all my time and energy go toward finding something else.

I know T-Mobile has been struggling and has monthly layoffs. I want to work for the competition. They've been my coverage provider since I left college. I just want to know if they're hiring developers in this bleak job market. Pardon me if this isn't the right place to ask.

I’ve been here for 3 years now. Software engineer. Came from a smaller company in a different industry.

Trying to build and deploy ANYTHING at this company is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever had to do. Getting access to do anything in Azure is frustrating creating resources in azure is frustrating deploying anything to prod in azure is frustrating and fails if you have a single character out of place. Playbooks are all over the place and impossible to find unless you know the secret phrase. I could deploy in less than 5 minutes at my last job, here I plan on it taking half a day.

We even started using power apps last year just to avoid the azure headaches even though I never wanted to consider it. It actually worked pretty well but apparently the power app lead left and now we have nobody who can answer our questions as we figure the platform out, so it’s back to square one.

Why does IT in Chevron make it so hard for developers to do anything? At least we got GitHub copilot. I just want to build sh-t and get it to our users. I’m already looking for the next job somewhere else that lets me do my work.

I would otherwise be out without a second thought. I don't know what your experience is, but there are barely any jobs out there. I reached my peak burnout just as there are no options left. Well, I'll just tread water here until better times, trying not to go nuts from having to show up here every day.

We're on a sinking ship, and options out there are almost non-existent. A colleague who was let go almost a year ago is still looking for a decent job. I started panicking a while back, so I started looking while I'm still here. Given that I've probably been less dedicated than if I were jobless, it's still been a horrible experience. It just made me more desperate. I hope this is just my story. Otherwise, we're sc--wed.

I applied for a job during my 30 day post lay off, when I was still “internal”. I was in screening status and spoke with manager and was moving forward. Then my last official day came. Now I’m “external”. I just found out that this job isn’t hiring external applicants and can’t move forward. The recruiter supposedly tried to get approval. Not sure who or what is behind all these decisions but none of it makes sense.

Everyone here should be actively interviewing, not just browsing job postings. If you're still satisfied with how you're treated, you must enjoy the abuse. The rest of us need to be aggressively looking for an exit.

Just like most of you, I was miserable at TD. Doing the workload of two jobs, with a horrible management team. But for some reason, I wasn’t interviewing because the thought of juggling a job search and an insane workload at TD stressed me out. Well I already landed a new job (much better company) with a 20% pay increase. TD severance still running through May. This is a message to everyone still there - you HAVE to start interviewing! The ship is sinking rapidly, but if you put your mind to it, you can land another job pretty quickly. The job market is bad, but not THAT bad. Get out while you still can! Your life will improve!

Can hiring managers see your current salary? I apply for jobs here and there. I can't even get an interview.

I’m young in my career and all three MCO’s I have worked at have been hellish, with Anthem being the worst by far. Wondering if folks have actually encountered a decent healthcare company to work at? Considering changing industries altogether because of how bad these places are.

(As an aside, Gail and team couldn’t identify true talent if it hit them in the face.)

I was desperate for a way out of Fiserv and the opportunity looked amazing. What it ended up turning into was endless hours, impossible deadlines, and constant panic. Now I'm stuck because it's even harder to land a job than when I left. Even Fiserv looks attractive at this point.

with the state of affairs, and the state of the job market in IT in general, if you had a job offer for a similar salary, less but close, less benefits, hard to match the swoosh, would you take it, or hold out at the swoosh for the 'promise' of long term employment for the extra 20k+ per year, maybe 30k if staying, but of course high risk.

You have better bargain power for salary with your next employer if you apply outside now while you are in the current job. Not after getting layed off.

One year ago I quit Fiserv, and I am constantly grateful to have made it out, thankfully to a much better position elsewhere. 
There were many things not to like, but my #1 complaint about Fiserv was that I was implementing "products" that were either not fully developed or didn't work as advertised, and I had to face clients on a daily basis and try to tapdance these services to work.  Basically I was set up to fail by Fiserv, which was an absolute waste of my time, and I quickly knew it wasn't going to be a long-term fit for me.
I was complimented on my work and well-liked by my team members, but not once did I have a week where I hit any metric goal during my time at Fiserv (not in-office hours, not sapience hours, not delivery goals...which were supposed to be 98% success rate and thus impossible to achieve, especially with sh-t products).  Early on, I just freed myself from caring about metrics and that was the only way my mental health did not suffer, and I do not regret that choice at all.  They were paying me the same whether I hit metrics or not, and I could not be stressed out by the infantilizing concern that I wasn't at my desk for 7 hours a day or whatever it was at that time.  The weekly "dashboards" that management would send me on metrics would go straight to my trash folder, unopened.  
I survived a couple big rounds of layoffs somehow, but while I was already deep into my job search, I unsurprisingly received a "Needs Improvement" on my yearly review (because of metrics).  It was about a month later I finally got a great job offer, and put in my two weeks notice.  
Sharing my story in case it resonates with anyone who thinks they should leave but aren't sure they can - you should, and you definitely can. You can all do better than Fiserv, you got this.

I recently accepted a Microsoft teams meeting from a recruiter who said they worked for a medical device company. It sounded like a real good deal until they wanted me to deposit an electronic check into my bank account. Of course I did not deposit the check. I told them that I put the check into my PayPal account and they went ballistic. They wanted me to use that check to purchase equipment for my job from their authorized vendor. This was a red flag so beware of the scammers out there you job seekers.
