Wilmington Closure
So finally the company got the ba--s to be honest and broke the news Wilmington office IS closing June 2027. But the kicker is they are saying everyone “left” would be working remotely. I just don’t see that being true after all they just FIRED tons of people for working remote and some just because of downsizing. I feel in 10 months we will all be told to go home and leave the equipment right here as in HUGE LAY OFF. This su-ks!!!!!

Austin IT Consolidation Sparks Layoff Fears
The City of Austin is moving forward with a plan to centralize its technology department, known as One ATS. This initiative aims to save millions of dollars annually after a tax ballot measure failed. While city management states no layoffs are planned, they acknowledge costs will be reduced as people leave. A union representative expressed concerns about potential safety risks and the impact on public services. The consolidation is expected to affect tech employees across various city departments, including emergency services.

Are rumours blowing up too much?
Last year, the 10-K seemed to foreshadow a significant round of layoffs, given Oracle’s roughly $2B restructuring budget.
The FY27 10-K, by comparison, indicates about $300M in restructuring costs, and at least some of that appears to be tied to completing restructuring actions initiated in the previous fiscal year.
Am I missing something, or is this year’s restructuring budget much more in line with Oracle’s typical fiscal-year spending rather than suggesting another unusually large RIF?
Expedia Group Cuts 100 Jobs in Austin
Expedia Group is planning to lay off 100 employees at its North Austin office. These job reductions are scheduled to begin in April. The travel tech company did not provide a specific reason for the layoffs. This follows recent cuts to its technology team and previous workforce reductions in Austin last year.

GM Cuts Hundreds of IT Jobs Amid AI Integration
General Motors has laid off approximately 500 to 600 employees, primarily in information technology roles. The terminations occurred after employees received an unexpected virtual meeting invitation. Artificial intelligence played a role in the decision, though it was not the sole factor. Affected employees are being offered severance packages and outplacement services. Despite these cuts, GM continues to hire for IT positions, including those focused on AI.

Why not move RIF'd to open spots?!
I see lots of jobs open so why are they not trying to move people who are on the RIF list to these spots? Yes, some require specialized degrees, such as nurses, but many of them don't. In 90% of these jobs, people can be trained to do them. Why would they let experience walk out the door? People who've been here for years could easily transition. Is it because they're going to bring in new folks at lower pay? Make it make sense.
UT Austin Restructures, Eliminates Positions
The University of Texas at Austin is eliminating 23 positions, which will result in layoffs. These changes affect several operational units, including the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Undergraduate Research. University leadership states that resources from these eliminated roles will be repurposed. Some programs will be integrated into existing colleges and schools. This restructuring aims to optimize administrative structures and academic operations.

Exit Math
It is also worth considering the possibility of an involuntary exit in your calculus of exit math and taking a new job. I was within 5 years of full pension when I got the surprise news. About two years earlier I did the math and turned down an outside opportunity because I thought the risk was non-existent. That was after negotiating the gap as small as possible. Companies change, leaders change, you aren’t in full control. Be realistic. The trajectory of Exxon is clear. Act accordingly.
Bethesda Game Studios Reduces Austin Staff
Bethesda Game Studios, known for titles like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, is reducing its workforce. A Texas Workforce Commission filing indicates ZeniMax Media is laying off 22 employees at its Austin office. This action follows a broader announcement of 4,800 layoffs by parent company Microsoft. The reasons for these cuts are attributed to business changes and a competitive industry landscape. The connection between these layoffs and Microsoft's larger workforce reductions is currently unconfirmed.

Should i reach out to HR and ask why i cant see my schedule? My supervisor wont tell me anything
NO RIF..PRIVATE PRIORITY MEETING
Well, I guess it was finally my turn.
On August 10th, I received a Teams invite for a “prioritized meeting.” I already knew what it was before I joined. I’ve been following these posts and paying attention to what has been happening within Centene, so I wasn’t surprised.
And strangely enough, I’m not sad. I’m not angry. I really don’t feel any type of way about it. I think that’s because I’ve seen the writing on the wall for a long time.
I’ve been with Centene for 8 years, and one thing I’ve learned is not to get too comfortable here.
For those who don’t know the history, Centene completed its acquisition of WellCare in January 2020. In 2021, Centene announced a restructuring that eliminated approximately 3,000 employees and 1,500 open positions. Then in 2023, another approximately 2,000 employees were laid off. And now here we are in 2026 going through another major restructuring.
At some point, you have to recognize the pattern.
And I want people who were impacted to understand something: this says more about the company than it does about you or your ability to do your job.
My experience with the culture at Centene has not been a positive one. There is a lot of “buddy-buddy” behavior, favoritism and bias. Sometimes the environment honestly gives mean girl/mean boy energy. The company talks about having an open-door policy, but from my experience, that door doesn't always feel very open. You can raise concerns, provide documentation and go through the appropriate channels and still walk away feeling like absolutely nothing was addressed.
I've also watched employees be expected to take on responsibilities outside of what they were originally hired to do, sometimes without the title or compensation that should come with that additional responsibility.
And I’ll say this carefully because I don't throw accusations of racism around lightly: there were situations I personally witnessed or experienced where the difference in how certain groups of employees were treated made me question whether race or other biases played a role. That's my experience and my observation.
I worked as a Business Analyst within the Florida health plan organization, and the culture within my area simply was not what Centene publicly says its culture is supposed to represent.
What I also struggle to understand about these reductions is how the company determines where the cuts are made. If membership and health-plan performance are major drivers, I would expect performance at the health-plan level to be a significant part of those decisions. Instead, employees are left trying to understand why certain positions and departments are eliminated while others remain.
And yes, companies are moving toward AI, automation and doing more with fewer people. That's reality. But companies still have a responsibility to remember that the numbers on an organizational chart represent actual people.
Even the way my notification was handled left a bad taste in my mouth. I was told I could take the remainder of the day off. Afterward, a meeting was held where my situation was discussed with others. I found that extremely tacky and unnecessary. If I wanted coworkers to know that I had been laid off, I should have been allowed to tell them myself.
But at the end of the day, it is what it is.
For everyone who was impacted: don't automatically look at this as the worst thing that could happen to you. Sometimes something that feels like a door closing is really pushing you toward something better. There are companies out here that will value your experience, compensate you fairly and treat you like a human being instead of a headcount.
And for those who survived this round: please don't get comfortable.
Eight years taught me that longevity does not equal security. Your performance does not guarantee security. Your knowledge does not guarantee security. Being loyal to a company does not mean the company will be loyal to you.
Do your job. Learn everything you can. Build your résumé. Keep your LinkedIn updated. Build relationships outside of Centene. Keep your certifications current. And always have a Plan B.
I don't know what the future holds for Centene. Maybe things will improve. I hope they do for the employees who remain.
But Centene also has to understand that repeated restructuring and employee experiences eventually become part of a company's reputation. When people start saying, “Don't apply there because you'll eventually get laid off” or “Don't work there because of the culture,” that's something leadership should pay attention to.
To everybody affected by this round: keep your head up.
This may not be the ending.
It may be your exit.
Lovelace Health System Reduces Staff
Lovelace Health System has laid off approximately 43 employees. The cuts primarily impact administrative and support positions. This represents about 1.6% of the local workforce. Anyone receive a Fidelity special tax notice in the mail stating that your job changed last month? Did Centene notify fidelity before telling us that we are getting laid off? The letter came with a packet labeled SPD
Paine Schwartz Cuts Mushroom Workforce
Monterey Mushrooms has seen significant workforce reductions since its acquisition by Paine Schwartz. Over 1,000 employees have been laid off across multiple facilities. Daily Herald Staff Cut After Acquisition
Weeks after its acquisition by Alden Global Capital, the Daily Herald has begun implementing layoffs. Reorg absurdity: An absentee part-time manager is picking our Sept 15 layoff list.
Just found out the upcoming Sept 15 layoff list for our team is being decided by the part-time, remote people manager after the recent reorg.
It just proves how toxic and out-of-touch leadership has become. This company has completely deteriorated and lost its way. Honestly, getting laid off might be a blessing in disguise at this point. It’s time to say goodbye to this place. Good luck to everyone on the 15th.
Historically speaking, the second major layoff of the year
Is always in November, a week or two before thanksgiving. It’ll happen between now and then.
Stop being so vague!!
Please! We are all worried and stressed share what you know! What states? What departments? Any severance? What date are you leaving? You are already here typing so help us all out!
Thank you!!
LRs?
Are we thinking a big announcement or just quiet cuts? My org has hired quite a few in the last quarter, so confused what’s going on here. Not convinced they’ll be doing any major LRs as of now.
We care about our people 🙄
Hearing there are folks who accepted a move to Edmonton and had been planning for the move. Then to have Imperial pull their offers and gave them an end date.
What a slap in the face.
Bye Bye Centene!
Welp! Got my notification this morning. To say I’m surprised would be a lie. I was let go due to a personal vendetta but hey life goes on. I’m actually relieved. Centene is a sinking ship that I’m happy to be off of lol
Managed out

For those who have been RIF’d today — any severance?
I’m so sorry that we are all going through such an anxious time right now. I wasn’t eligible for the VSP and am almost certain to be RIF’d — so please know I understand the fear and anxiety. I hope everyone impacted ends up better than they were before.
I was wondering if anyone who has been RIF’d today can share whether or not they were offered any kind of severance?
Layoffs Rumors - What’s Happening in FA
Just heard rumors about potential layoffs in August/September in Fusion apps . It seems like the selection process might involve a review of unvested stocks not performance – anyone have any insights on what that looks like?
Can people whose VSPs were approved be laid off?
I'm not one of them, I'm just curious, since some got such distant final dates.
NJ
So seeing all the RIF posts from today. Anyone from NJ? Have you heard anything about Fidelis NJ?
Is anybody else hoping to get the layoff notification?
That seems to be the only way out of this mess that's even a bit positive at this point.
Possibly a Layoff
