The Death of a People-First Company
I worked as a contractor for couple years and fell in love with the culture back in 2010-2011. My contract got terminated couple years later but my manager was so supportive and inclusive that an attempt was made to convert me to full-timer but the contract did not allow that. Nevertheless, I kept in touch with a hope that someday it might work out. Couple years later, one fine morning, I saw a job opening (Linkedin) in that team and I applied. It took a month or two to go through bureaucracy but my manager was more than happy to recruit me having seen my technical skills and got the job. I did not negotiate at all and just accepted what was offered to me even though it was way below market rates. I was very happy and promised myself to retire from this place with a belief that a great job and mental peace is more important than tons of money. I even celebrated my success with a long vacation at Disney's along with my family.
I was so enthusiastic about my work that time was never a constraint when it came to work. I put in my sweat and blood into the job. People came and left around me, including most of my colleagues and managers, but I stuck around watching how Pearson culture fell from being a lovable people's company to corporate greed, nepotism and a disposable view of human capital. Then one fine afternoon, in Jan 2026, I was a victim of nepotism and laid off unceremoniously. And here I am still looking for a company that I loved so much, it now feels like a lost cause.
sad
I received no raise, while execs... including Hemsley... continues to receive mega comp packages. If employes are being asked to accept stagnant pay because of the company’s performance and financial challenges, exec compshould be subject to the same scrutiny... and sacrifice.
I have been with UnitedHealthcare for more than 20 yrs & it is frustrating to watch longtime employees feel undervalued while leadership continues to be well compensated. Folks are tired of hearing the same corp messaging quarter after quarter without seeing meaningful improvements in our compensation or working conditions.
At some point, leadership needs to recognize that employee loyalty has limits. Period... If the co wants to retain experienced people, it needs to demonstrate that through competitive pay and meaningful raises - not simply words of appreciation. Employees cannot continually be expected to absorb the consequences of management decisions while executives remain financially insulated from them.
Its sad discouraging to see news about employees receiving little or nothing in additional compensation while the company's stock responds positively. That sends a terrible message to the people who have spent years helping build and operate this organization. Please start listening to employees and appropriately compensating the people doing the work. Otherwise UHC should not be surprised when experienced employees decide they have had enough and leave.
KOMO News: T-Mobile shutters 7 Washington stores, cuts jobs in fall layoffs at Bellevue HQ
I know we dont have many folks from the stores on this forum, but wanted to share this as well. These folks are working as hard as us and they are often impacted by cuts more than we are. Anyhow, I am sorry they have to go thru this and hope all laid off folks find better jobs soon.
Essendant is Done 8/31/2026
It's over, sycamore ran it into the ground. Sad day for past and present employees.
WTH 🤦
It’s maddening how toxic this place is. So many layoffs, no budgets for promotions raises etc. everyone is just so burned out in my org. Layoff after layoff, doing more with less. Meanwhile, record sales and the company livestreams GSX to all of us poors. Sales, product and engineering are all crutial parts of a business but it’s clearly a sales-over-everything business.
Listen between the lines
What's the change Ayman skirted around during today's town hall? Solutions and teams moving "out of the Core". He is waiting for a recommendation from "the team". His way of putting a WFR blame on others since he is going to follow "the teams" recommendation.
WFR coming.
Retail management layoffs
I’m reading there are supposed to be more layoffs in October for management in retail stores. Does anyone have any details on this?
2026 August layffs
Another round of layoffs, affecting a limited number of back-office positions. Recurring pattern in August and November.
Layoffs…
If there are layoffs it seems the pattern is that they occur in September or October. Always right before the holiday season.
Org Health Requirements
We are being told to create more lower level roles and limit/eliminate the amount of higher level roles. I was looking at some of our postings for C12 roles. They are asking for 5-8 years of specific experience and stating an advanced degree is a plus. I am sorry but 5-8 years of this type of experience should easily demand C13.
The message is clear. Do more with less people and less experience. Sad thing this is the whole damn market. Good luck to all that have been impacted and those that will be. Ugh

BYO Lunch for 1 Billion Barrels @ Kearl
How astonishingly cheap has Imperial Oil’s management become that they expect employees to bring their own lunch while celebrating one billion barrels produced at Kearl. Fifty billion dollars in potential revenue, and the big reward is… packing your own sandwich. John Whelan, hope things are comfortable up in the penthouse while everyone else is told to brown‑bag it.

Ametek Layoffs
My company was just purchased by Ametek. What can we expect?
Org changes coming?
Historically, we see org changes and layoffs in September/October. No one really knows but we are good at reading the signs. Anyone reading anything?
Cuts today
Unclear how many
Massive Layoff's at HQ
So, as of this morning, there was a huge shakeup in Canton. Many people who supported the field and leadership are now gone. It seems like the clowns are now fully in charge of the circus. Not going to drop the names, but take a look around... and this is just weeks after another round was done. This is only the beginning; it's going to get worse.
Maybe Spend Less Time Maintaining Your Network and More Time Leading the Company
If our CEO spent a little less time on social media maintaining his network and relevance for whatever his next role might be—and a little more time actually leading this company—maybe the rest of us would spend less time on Layoff.com wondering when the next restructure or round of layoffs is coming.
Employees cannot focus on growing, innovating, and thriving when they are constantly waiting for the next shoe to drop.
Leadership isn’t about likes, visibility, or staying relevant in your network. It’s about giving your people a strategy they can believe in, creating stability, communicating a direction, and actually executing.
We don’t need another LinkedIn post.
We need you to do your damn job and lead.
Monday, 4k?
I have heard from several sources that 4,000 employees are being let go on Monday. Take it with a grain of salt because this is all a game of telephone

Is severance staying the same?
No reductions expected?
PIT, RTO, and McKinsey, September is going to be interesting
There's going to be waves of people leaving in September when the RTO policy goes into effect, and when Executive Leadership(ELT) realizes the reduction in payroll expenses isn't quite hitting the goals set by TPG, they are going to do mass layoffs. Entire departments will be eliminated if not reduced to a skeleton crew. High cost centers like Product Development will probably see substantial cuts, simply because most of that department live more than 30 miles away from an office, they're not going to cover relocation fees so it's easier to just cut. We are already seeing hiring freezes in PD when long-tenured software engineers left with no backfilling, budget constraints is the excuse given. I estimate that there will be massive RIFs in mid-October through December, then they will probably announce it in January 2027 just like last year.
I was in the last round of Chevron layoffs
And I couldn't be more grateful. That place is a disaster, and getting out was the push I needed to find something better. Being let go feels like a punishment when it happens, but with time you realize it's a gift. Go find something that doesn't drain you. You'll thank yourself later.
The middle management maze
There are just too many people between the work and the results. Managers of managers, directors of nothing, and their only real skill is creating more meetings and more politics. They think they're helping, but they're really just slowing everything down. Get rid of them in the next round of cuts and we'll all be better off.
CA Branch closures / Merging
Hearing whispers of some restructuring of the branches in CA. Specifically the South LA branch becoming the main branch and OC and the Ventura branches being closed or turned into ghost warehouses. Anyone have any more info on that?
DSW
Hearing its the end of the road for a number of staff in a number of locations, looks like hubs are the focus now.
Constant cuts have broken the culture beyond repair
When you never know if your job will exist next quarter, you can't focus on anything but survival.
School District Cuts Over 500 Staff
The Long Beach Unified School District has laid off more than 500 employees to address a significant financial deficit. These cuts include temporary certified staff, federally-funded Head Start program employees, librarians, and various support staff. District employees express deep concern that these layoffs will negatively impact student learning, wellness, and increase the workload for remaining staff. Despite these concerns, the district maintains that core student services will be protected. The decision comes as the district faces a nearly $70 million budget shortfall.

That's how bad it's gotten
We've reached the point where even the laziest people, those who work maybe 2-3 hours a day, are leaving for better opportunities. When that's happening, you know things are truly dire. If even the coasters are jumping ship, what's left for the rest of us? Seriously?
So long Angola….well at least parts of you.
I guess those assets in Angola we are selling off aren’t technically being layed off.
But, probably a good thing to get out from under Chevron while they can.
Who’s next. APAC?
Merger - likely layoffs
If you work in customer service, logistics, planning, pricing, etc - be prepared to train your replacement in costa rica after the huntsman merger. They're for sure going to leverage the global service center in order to hit the 400 million synergy targets.
Arrogant Companies Lose More Than Employees
It’s hard not to see the company’s recent actions as deeply disingenuous.
For years, we were told that work-life balance mattered, that employee feedback was valued, and that engagement surveys actually influenced decisions. Today, those messages ring hollow.
Don’t forget what the company has done.
A year from now, there may be apologies like Meta did, polished messaging, and attempts to reframe the cuts and other measures as mistakes that went too far.
The narrative will likely be carefully crafted to sound optimistic and reassuring.
But by then, much of the institutional knowledge and experience may already be gone.
There seems to be an assumption that a younger workforce, combined with AI and fewer experienced employees, can simply replace what was lost.
That’s a dangerous assumption. Younger employees aren’t stupid, and Gen Z and the generations that follow are fully capable of recognizing when a company’s actions don’t match its words.
People remember how they were treated.
When experienced employees continue to leave and younger employees follow them out the door, we’ll see where the company is left.
You can’t erase years of institutional experience and expect everything to function as if nothing happened.
The biggest problem may not be the cuts themselves, it may be the loss of trust.
Once employees stop believing that the company genuinely values them, rebuilding that trust is far harder than any polished corporate message can fix.
Huge RA across Europe this September?
There are rumours circulating about a huge RA across Europe this September due to the company's poor financial results. The RAs are expected to affect most business units. Does anyone have more information about this? Is it true?
Huron Consulting Group Concluding Soon
From the ITS newsletter: "The Future Platform Evaluation initiative, led in partnership with Huron Consulting Group, will conclude in early September with recommendations and a high-level roadmap for our future direction. This effort has been shaped through close collaboration between ITS leaders and partners from across SNHU and will provide an important foundation for future decision-making."
Anyone else worried that layoffs are coming?
Schell Games Faces Workforce Reductions
Video game developer Schell Games has reportedly initiated its first-ever layoffs. Multiple employees shared news of the job cuts on LinkedIn, indicating the reductions began last Friday. The affected departments include marketing, art, design, and visual effects. Reports suggest approximately fourteen individuals have been let go from the studio. These layoffs occur despite the CEO's past public statements against putting jobs at risk.

Can managers just fire anyone they don’t like. Haven’t talked to manager in about six weeks
Did anyone notice?
The WARN notice for the WA layoffs came out of Overland Park. I don't think Ive ever seen that in the 20 years I worked at corporate. Official notices and high level items always came out of Newport. Shows how much the culture has changed, executive functions are originating out of Kansas City.
