Western Kentucky Sees Widespread Job Cuts

Multiple businesses in western Kentucky have recently laid off over 350 employees since March. CC Metals and Alloys, Precision Parcel Logistics, Premier Candle U.S. Corp., and Stella Jones Corp. were among the companies making significant workforce reductions. Experts note that economic cycles and rising input costs can contribute to such layoffs. Local organizations like the Goodwill Opportunity Center and Kentucky Career Center are providing resources to assist affected individuals. These centers offer job search assistance, training, and support to help people re-enter the workforce.

USDA Staff Reductions Hamper Meat Processor Support

Recent layoffs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture are creating significant difficulties for meat processors. A representative from the Flower Hill Institute noted that remaining USDA staff are shouldering increased workloads. These workforce reductions have impacted the Meat and Poultry Processing Technical Assistance Program. The institute continues to aid processors in navigating these new challenges. Many processors previously relied on specific personnel for grant reporting and documentation.

Portland State Reduces Faculty Job Cuts

Portland State University has finalized its layoff plan, reducing the number of affected faculty and academic staff from initial projections. The university will now see 36 faculty and academic staff lose their jobs, with three positions shifting to part-time status. These cuts are part of a larger strategy to address a significant budget shortfall. While the number of layoffs is lower than previously announced, some faculty express dissatisfaction with the process and the university's long-term financial strategy. The university aims to achieve substantial savings through these reductions and departmental eliminations.

Asset Managers Drive Widespread Layoffs

A significant number of companies, particularly those backed by asset management firms, have initiated substantial layoffs across the nation. These job cuts, affecting nearly 13,000 workers from January to May 15, 2026, are often a consequence of acquisitions, market consolidation, or efforts to increase efficiency. Many of these actions are driven by private equity firms seeking short-term profits, which can sometimes lead to increased financial risk for the acquired companies. The federal WARN Act mandates notification for larger layoffs, but state-level regulations also play a role in worker protections. This trend highlights a broader pattern of restructuring within industries influenced by investment firms.

Layoffs in Data Center and AI Group

Layoffs in Data Center and AI Group are part of restructuring, even though the division reported strong revenue growth and rising demand for AI...

Intel says it needs the right roles and skills for long-term success, but it has not said how many employees will lose their jobs or why more cuts are needed after earlier large layoffs.

The layoffs have raised concerns about job security in the tech industry and have reduced employee trust in companies that continue to invest in AI while cutting jobs.

The Lay Off Waiting Room

It's an excellent point made by a poster below. Many are hoping to cash out for the severance and feel entitled to do so. There is no disagreement with that. The sturm und drang has been real. Employees have earned that money. Now, they weigh whether hanging on for it will result in actually getting it. With the advent of the Cognizent bait and switch, it's a hard calculation. One colleague decided to bail after being je-ked around long enough.

Frontier and Ireland

I think some have asked and didn't get answers but I just heard on an all hands call today that some at Frontier as well as some from Ireland were included the last round of cuts. I didn't work with them personally but a lot of people on the call did and said loosing them was hard after everything they had contributed. I don't know the details like whether the work was offshored or just not needed but it is what it is. Odd since a lot of what we did was offshored to Ireland over a year ago.

All IT outsourced to India

Level one support was outsourced several years ago. Now level two support is outsourced to India. They laid off 30 technical people who knew what they were doing. It is a total nightmare if you have a problem. No one can understand a word they are saying. My system has been down 3 days and I don't know what to do. All management says is keep calling until you get someone you can understand.

Do corporate comms get any more vapid, stupid and meaningless than this...

Regarding this year's annual DCG layoff action: “As part of our broader strategy to become a more focused and efficient company, (the data center group) is aligning its organization to ensure it has the right roles and skills in place to position the business for long-term success,” Intel said in a written statement

For the comms/HR person that penned this, you're probably within ~12 months of getting axed, if not sooner.

Surplused 7/1

Fortunately I was surplused on 7/1 after 28 years at Att. I’ve seen this company go from, a great place to work to a Stanky hole.

Anyways, when should I expect my last paycheck or severance payment. I haven’t seen anything so far. Knowing the inefficiencies at AT&T, I’m worried that this may take multiple calls to HR one stop. Only to find out that nothing has been done.

I was layed off in recent restructure

For all of you here who are still waters employees enjoy the ride.
I was recently made redundant.
It is one of the worst feelings in terms of life change, people say no one died it's just a job,but it's not, to loose your job in these circumstances is devastating, I cannot put into words the mental effect this has had, yes no one has died but all your hard work and effort you put into the company are all wiped out in one moment, when you are told your role is been made redundant and you are no longer part of the corporation.
The hardest part in all this of this is why, when the corporation are still activley hiring and you ask the question what did making my role redundant really achieve, did it create synergy reduce reporting lines what did this really achieve in terms of delivering benefit, or living my legend.

I am so happy the Tom Jenkins is laying off (firing) so many people to raise the stock price ...

I see the market was up again today, and the OpenText price ... oh, crud ... down again.

This company's outlook is bleak as long as Jenkins, his pupppet CEO, the so-called Board of Directors, Bell, Muhi, Rai, Berry, Cione, Acedo, and all the other Jenkins minions are in charge.

As a stockholder I demand change!

Medtronic Structural Heart Layoff Package

I was an R&D Engineer I with Medtronic for a year, with 7 months of prior co-op experience on the same team. In May of 2026, the project I was on was significantly gashed, resulting in functional leaders having less project work to give out than engineering resources available. Sadly, I was quite an easy target for the project to drop and my manager to no longer need. I'm posting the severance package here because I relied heavily on this site as rumors were swirling before the layoff.

My severance package:

  • 2 months of "garden leave" where I still received full pay and was "technically" still an employee
  • 4 weeks of true severance pay, given in a lump sum payment once I signed the separation agreement (no non-compete was given)
  • Unprotected PTO payout (keep in mind that the protected PTO does NOT get paid out, so if you think you'll be laid off, be sure to use all of your protected PTO)
  • MIP was still given (yearly bonus and additional 401k contributions)
  • Unvested company contributions to my 401k will be rescinded, so after the MIP payout they will be taking $7k back from my 401k.
  • They offered job placement help both within Medtronic and externally

All said and done, I couldn't have asked for a much better package (except the unvested 401k contributions being taken back). However, it still su-ks to get laid off.

Be prepared for a meeting to be put on your calendar after working hours. It will be your manager and an HR rep. The HR rep will be thoroughly unhelpful in answering questions.

Hospital Faces WARN Act Inquiry

A law firm is investigating West Suburban Medical Center for potential violations of the WARN Act. The hospital recently announced a mass layoff affecting 589 employees. This federal law requires employers to provide 60 days' notice before significant workforce reductions. Employees may be entitled to severance pay if proper notice was not given. The investigation aims to determine if the hospital complied with these notification requirements.

Dejavu 1993-1999 ex Synopsys employee

This layoff is so-called cleaning house/overlapping functions....happens with mergers/acquisitions. Saw many heads hacked from top to bottom throughout my tenure and left voluntarily after 7 years.....could hear the axe being sharpened again. Turbulent times then....and still today. BUT so glad I moved on to a better/bigger life.

Tech Layoffs Impact Housing Market Sentiment

Corporate uncertainty at major employers like Nike and Intel is rapidly affecting local housing markets, even before official job losses occur. Potential homebuyers, sensing instability, are delaying major purchases due to job security concerns. This psychological shift precedes actual income loss, causing a noticeable slowdown in market activity. While hiring cycles used to boost demand, the current recovery is less pronounced. Consequently, discretionary purchases are down, leaving a thinner pool of buyers for higher-priced homes.

Business Update: 30 Remote DTFR Employees Laid Off! YAYYYY!!!!!

Finally received my 60 day non-working notice from Wells Fargo update after a Business Update meeting in Microsoft Teams. Super excited to be moving on! Glad I stuck around in Fraud (continued working remotely) after the Relocation Strategy email from corporate in February 2024 warning of these layoffs in the future. Delay after delay in DTFR, disorganized upper managers pushing out the date further and further. Prevent AI to date was a flop (but who cares anyways). Today I am happy to announce, I am done with Wells Fargo officially. What a ride it has been! Time to collect my hard earn money while I go on vacation and sip a Colada! Cheers!!!!!!!!!
