Jersey City Council Questions Health Department Budget

Jersey City council members questioned health department directors regarding provisional layoffs and cuts to senior trip programming during a budget hearing. Business Administrator Ruby Choi stated these were difficult decisions made after extensive discussions about operational impacts. Council members expressed concern over specific layoffs, including a bus driver, and the rationale behind hiring an in-house specialist. The department head also detailed reduced clinic hours and the impact of losing a health educator in a vulnerable ward. Discussions also covered grant funding, departmental reorganization, and discrepancies in reported budget cuts.

PIF deal is moving forward

Let's be realistic, despite what we've been told, once this goes through, we're sc--wed. There might not be layoffs immediately, but there will be major layoffs for sure, and I'm betting they'll take place within a year. I've been desperately looking for something else since this was announced, but the job market in our industry is atrocious right now.

Raise didn't keep me safe

Just a warning to people who might think, like I did, that getting a raise means they're planning to keep you around. That's not true. Four months after I got a raise, I was gone. I think it hit me even harder because I was so convinced I was safe. I just wanted to share this so people know where they really stand.

Next major layoff based on who uses AI?

Just a thought… but Dan made a specific comment about 88% of the company is “using” AI, and we should encourage the other 12% blah blah…..

Anyone else thinking that metric will be used against us for the next round of layoffs? Checking to see how much we use AI?

Shopify Sh-tshow

Anyone else psyched to be at the front lines of angry students and parents when rush hits? It’s so unbelievably stupid to allow orders for items we do not have and not tell the students we have to source these items somehow and it will take weeks. Oh and we can’t cancel items. And can’t cancel orders. But customer service is so so important!!!

Is there a safe space from the AI slop at Ford?

Every day it's the same slop. "We have to use AI in everything we do". Write code? Get AI to do it! Review the code? AI! Write an email or post a message in Teams? Better use AI for it (the ems and the emoji use always give it away; "it's not just x - it's y")! Every post, every message, AI slop images, AI slop text, literally inescapable. I feel like the cult mentality around it is just eating away at people's brains, it's a twilight zone episode. I get we have to copy what every software company does, but isn't there someone near the top seeing the massive bubble about to burst, the cost of token consumption, and the general brain drain that comes from offloading every single task to an agent or a chat bot?

Watt Questions McAfee's Salary Amid ESPN Cuts

JJ Watt questioned Pat McAfee's reported $100 million salary during an appearance on McAfee's show. Watt asked if the large payout meant others were being fired to fund it. This occurred as ESPN announced significant layoffs, impacting several well-known personalities. McAfee acknowledged the narrative but defended his team's work. The comments Watt made were reportedly removed from the show's YouTube upload.
