Good on them!

Twenty-six employees of Meta Platforms have filed a novel lawsuit accusing the tech giant of using AI-powered software that disproportionately targeted people with disabilities ‌or who took medical leave in selecting workers for mass layoffs.

Federal Court Halts CFPB Remote Worker Cuts

A federal judge has issued an injunction preventing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from proceeding with layoffs. These layoffs specifically targeted employees working remotely or in telework arrangements. The injunction was granted following a lawsuit filed by affected workers. The court's decision temporarily halts the agency's plan to bring these employees back to Washington D.C. or terminate their employment. Further legal proceedings will determine the ultimate outcome for these CFPB staff members.

Bethesda Union Plans Protest March

Bethesda union workers are organizing a "Save Our Devs" march to protest recent Xbox layoffs. The OneBGS union represents affected employees and seeks better protections. The protest will occur at multiple ZeniMax office locations. Workers are demanding improved severance packages and healthcare support. They also want opportunities for affected employees to transfer to other roles.

If You Accept Severance Payout Over Time

I understand that if you accept severance over time instead of a lump sum payment, you can keep your medical/dental/vision benefits. Does anyone know if those are going to be the same rates as when I was employed or will it be at the higher COBRA rates? Trying to determine if I should just lump sum it and go on my spouses benefits

CDW needs unions

After five mass RIFs in less than four years and many other unacknowledged workforce reductions, the only way for coworkers to achieve any transparency or fairness is through collective bargaining. I’m shocked that the Teamsters haven’t already organized the warehouses.

While organizing “knowledge workers” is more difficult, the CWA has had some success with bargaining for better severance packages, standards governing reductions, and guardrails around AI (and company’s false narratives about “efficiency gains”) at Google and Microsoft. If you’re an individual contributor, your right to discuss pay, benefits, and working conditions and organize a union is protected under the National Labor Relations Act.

Power concedes nothing without a demand. If you’re tired of CDW’s coworker last decisions such as authorizing a $1 billion stock buyback that they paid for with your former coworkers’ jobs, demand change collectively.

Can my manager lay me off

Can my manager lay me off just because he's doesn't like me? He cannot make a case of bad performance because I literally get praises And thank yous everywhere from all the other stakeholders. I am IC. Can he fire my me or somehow influence the HR or management to include me in the next RIF? Are there any guardrails to protect teammbers from toxic insecure managers?

When you give resignation notice, do they let you go immediately?

How much notice do you give for resignation? Will they let you go immediately?
I want to give my manager notice but I’m afraid he’ll let me go immediately. How have you seen this handled? I am not seeking employment elsewhere.

Bethesda Union Plans Protests Over Layoffs

Bethesda Game Studios union members are organizing protests at four studio locations next week. These demonstrations are in response to nearly 450 job cuts across ZeniMax. The union plans to demand preferential transfers and stronger severance packages. They aim to show Xbox management their commitment to protecting affected workers. Protests are scheduled for July 15th at Bethesda offices.

Union Game Developers Push for Worker Rights Amid Xbox Job Cuts

Microsoft has implemented significant layoffs impacting its Xbox division, with 1,600 employees losing their jobs. This reduction is part of a larger company-wide restructuring, affecting approximately 4,800 employees in total. Unionized video game workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), are among those affected by these cuts. The CWA expressed extreme disappointment, citing a slow-walk of contract negotiations despite prior neutrality agreements. This action comes after thousands of Xbox workers unionized with the CWA since 2022.

Do displaced employees have any negotiating power???

I understand we get out 60-days of pay for the non-working period, our accrued PTO (up to the layoff date and not including comm service time, personal holidays or floating holidays) and we get severance. However, has anyone in the US had any success getting anything else? Like paid for all your pto earned or unearned, extra benefits or perks???

If you are 40 or older

For those 40 and older, Centene is REQUIRED to provide a 45 day period for you to review the VSP and make a decision. They're also required to give you 7 days to rescind it, if you want to. This is required by the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA). 45 days wasn't given between the receipt of the offers and the deadline to apply date.

Employee Records

How to Access Your Records (Michigan Employees)
If you are trying to track down past records from Ford and worked for them in Michigan, you are legally protected by the Bullard-Plawecki Right to Know Act (MCL 423.501).
Under this Michigan state law, if you submit a written request to Ford’s Human Resources or corporate records division, they are required to provide you with an opportunity to review or receive a copy of your official personnel file, assuming it has not passed its standard 7-year post-employment purge date.

CDW Medical Insurance - are we covered until the end of July?

Does anyone know if those of us affected by this RIF on July 1st will be covered under the CDW medical insurance through end of July or are we officially without medical insurance now? This would be before COBRA is elected. How does this work?

Feeling pretty numb from it all. Still trying to get over the shock and we have been a one income family, now a zero income family!

New York Bill Boosts Severance Agreement Protections

The New York Legislature passed a bill called the "No Severance Ultimatums Act." This bill imposes new requirements on employers offering severance agreements to employees. Employers must provide 21 calendar days for consideration and a 7-day revocation period. The Act expands federal protections, like those in OWBPA, to all New York employees regardless of age. If signed into law, non-compliant severance agreements would be void and unenforceable immediately.

Lump Sum Timing

Because the question around how long it takes to get a severance lump sum payment processed has been asked numerous rimes, by myself included, I thought I'd share my experience. It took two weeks. My guess is as long as they get it and acknowledge it early in a pay cycle window, they'll process it in that window.

Separation agreement and release

It is BS that we are not provided this information (Separation agreement and general release) so we can make an informed decision. The vsp line is a joke. They pretty much do not answer any questions and refer you back to the question and answered document that was shared.
