Verizon connect

I left Verizon about two months ago on my own terms, and looking back, I’m very happy with my decision.

At the same time, it’s difficult to watch former colleagues being laid off, terminated, or feeling mistreated within the company. Years ago, I never imagined wanting to leave Verizon. I genuinely thought it was an amazing company and a place where I could build a long-term career.

But over time, things changed. The culture changed, the environment changed, and unfortunately, not for the better.

I say this as a former Customer Success Manager and Strategic Account Manager who spent many years with the organization. Since leaving, I’ve spoken with others who have also moved on, and I keep hearing the same thing: leaving was one of the best decisions they made.

The crazy part? I finally understand exactly what they mean.

Sometimes walking away from something you once loved isn’t giving up—it’s recognizing that the place you loved isn’t the same place anymore.

How long are/were given to decide PIP or PIL? 21 days ? Or 7 days?

I saw a post with 21 days listed as the decision timeframe. Some countries seem to be told 7 days. What’s your experience ?
Also, when is your last day on payroll if you choose the PIL? If you are eligible to retire, do you retire the day after you leave with PIL?

Heading into this year, I think the bigger picture is becoming pretty clear.

The Board of Directors — Dan’s bosses — wants one thing above everything else: stronger cash flow and a much leaner Verizon. And there are really only two ways to accomplish that at scale: increase revenue and aggressively reduce costs.

That’s where AI, automation, indirect retail, and organizational consolidation come into play.

As much as we joke about AI being terrible today, we’re still in the baby stages of what this technology will eventually become. Think about where AI could be 10+ years from now after years of development, training, and integration into systems like Salesforce, POS, digital sales, customer service, and account management.

The long-term vision, in my opinion, is for significantly more of Verizon’s direct sales and service transactions to happen digitally with fewer employees involved in the process.

And that brings us to retail.

I would not be surprised if we eventually reach a point where the overwhelming majority of Verizon retail locations are operated through indirect partners rather than corporate retail. People ask why Verizon would do that, but look at the economics. Some indirect locations are already producing strong numbers while Verizon doesn't have to carry the same corporate labor and operating structure behind every store.

Why own and operate the entire distribution network if somebody else can sell your product for you?

Then there's Business.

I think a major consolidation between Mid-Market and SMB — B2B, I2B, R2B, etc. — is brewing.

Instead of maintaining all these separate channels, imagine one broader organization called Business Markets, with roles differentiated primarily by account size and customer segment. It could eventually resemble the Government model: SMB and Mid-Market account managers operating within the same broader organization, potentially rolling up through the same leadership structure.

If you're wondering why accountability conversations, performance management and PIPs suddenly seem to be getting more aggressive, I don't think that's happening in a vacuum either.

When a company knows it needs fewer employees in the future, attrition becomes valuable. Every employee who voluntarily leaves — or exits through performance management — is potentially one less severance package or position that has to be eliminated during a future restructuring.

At the same time, the company gets an opportunity to identify and preserve its strongest performers for whatever the next version of the organization looks like.

That's why I think the ultimate goal is a much leaner Verizon — potentially below 50,000 employees over time, with headcount continuing to decline as automation improves.

And here's the uncomfortable part:

Verizon probably knows exactly what it's doing.

That doesn't mean employees have to like it. It doesn't mean every decision will be executed perfectly. But from a shareholder and cash-flow perspective, there is a clear logic behind the direction.

And this isn't exclusively a Verizon story.

It's happening across corporate America.

Companies are realizing they can automate more, outsource more, consolidate departments, flatten management structures and operate with fewer employees. Meanwhile, a difficult job market gives employers something they haven't had to this degree in years: leverage.

You can quit tomorrow because you disagree with the direction of the company, but there's a large pool of qualified candidates competing for good-paying corporate positions right now. Companies know that.

So when you connect the dots — AI integration, digital sales, indirect expansion, organizational consolidation, increased performance pressure and headcount reduction — these don't necessarily look like a bunch of unrelated decisions.

They look like pieces of the same long-term strategy.

The Verizon of 2035 may still be one of the largest telecommunications companies in America.

It just might require a fraction of the people to operate it & that's just facts. Hate it or love it.

Did the TAO Leader threaten an employee during her talk at Bengaluru Location about terminating his job? What action with Board & CEO take?

Why is the TAO leader (P. M.) threatening an employee about his job security in front of hundreds of employees during her talk in Bengaluru? Why has the Board of Directors and CEO not taken any serious action? Are leaders at that level not accountable for their words and actions? What happened to Nokia being an Ethical Company? How do you think the employee who was being threatened felt after being embarrassed in front of hundreds of employees? Does she think this is a joking matter? What type of damage does this do to Nokia (brand, investors, customers, future contracts (gov't and commercial), employees, etc)? Should leadership be just as ACCOUNTABLE as any other employee?

Acquisition of F/m Investments

So what does everyone think? I guess we know why Ramon always seemed to be in DC. I wonder if layoffs/offshoring will start for those folks once "synergies" are determined. Overlaps in back-office, compliance, or distribution could eventually lead to some efficiencies once integrated. More roles of Accenture. It didn't seem to move the needle on the stock price.

Layoffmgr

When will the official announcement of a fourth round of layoffs be made? As part of streamlining management layers — for example, one manager per 20-person team — is it possible the cuts will focus only on management-level roles, without this reflecting on any individual’s performance?

School Board Approves More Staff Cuts

Sacramento City Unified school board approved approximately 100 additional employee terminations. This action follows earlier authorization of over 500 layoff notices. An administrative judge recommended against this latest batch of layoffs, but the board was not obligated to follow the advice. These cuts are part of efforts to address a significant budget deficit and avoid state intervention. The district expects to rescind some notices before the end of June, but the exact number remains uncertain.

San Jose Council Approves Budget Amid Fiscal Challenges

San Jose's City Council has approved a $5.5 billion budget, successfully navigating a $50 million deficit without resorting to layoffs. The budget was balanced by utilizing reserve funds and implementing service reductions across various departments. Key programs, including immigrant defense services and a library historical document room, received restored or reallocated funding. Savings were also identified through reduced spending on homeless shelters following encampment clearings. Despite these measures, the budget still entails $18.9 million in cost and service level reductions, equivalent to 85 full-time roles, though these will be managed through vacancies and reassignments.

County Educators Face Job Cuts

Special education teachers in Santa Clara County are concerned about upcoming layoffs. Declining enrollment has led the county office of education to plan the closure of eight preschool and special education classes. This action is expected to result in approximately 31 teacher layoffs for the next school year. Officials state these layoffs are not yet final and will be voted on in June. Teachers report that existing classes are already struggling with larger student numbers and increased behavioral issues.

Train Wreck that everyone watched!

The whole company became a joke once Greed took over. Bad decision, horrible promotions to many young woman that were not competent to assume those roles, but Greed like his pretty young women around. Also he loved to have his "yes" men by his side. What a mess this company has spiraled into. Management used to brag about how they never laid anyone off, now its a common every other year occurrence. So top heavy with incompetent leadership that should have been the first to go, not the front line workers that actually did things. Many EVP's and VP on the sale force should have been shown the door with their useless sales tactics... and if you did not go along or drink the toxic cool aid they were handing out, you were an outcast and would never go any where in the company. I thought it would get better with a change of leadership- no because they were hyper focused on DEI and over paid HR leadership that wanted to shove their agenda down the employees throat when they should have been getting rid of most of the sales leaders in the field. Tom M. would be so disgusted with what has happened to this once great company over the last 11 years. Stay away from this toxic place, stay far away!

Beware iSeries employees - IT is secretly hiring contractors for a rewrite

I am one of the 400 remote workers who has been ordered to RTO. I'm looking for work and applied for a fully remote contractor position. To my surprise, they told me the client is O'Reilly. They are looking for outside contractors to document the iSeries software for another team to do a complete rewrite. We received assurances that the CIO is leaving the iSeries platform alone, but this discovery clearly contradicts that claim. This CIO is secretly scheming to eliminate the iSeries as soon as possible.

RPG III / RPG IV / ILE RPG
IBM iSeries / AS400

Legacy system analysis and documentation
Responsibilities:

Analyze RPG applications running on IBM iSeries/AS400.

Should I accept an offer for Fidelity LEAP? (college grad)

Hey guys I noticed that there are a lot of complaints about Fidelity on this page. I currently have an offer from Fidelity for the LEAP Software program but I also have an offer from Citi bank and am interviewing for USAA. Im hearing about constant layoffs as well as having to go to the office 5 days a week and there not being enough space for parking or sitting. But it seems like fidelity has the best upward mobility and would be a good place to start my career

Illinois Tech Cuts Spark Community Concerns

Illinois Tech recently laid off 160 faculty and staff members due to a significant budget shortfall. This reduction has raised alarms among former employees and local leaders regarding its impact on community engagement and programming. A popular course partnering with the Bronzeville Trail Task Force has already been eliminated. Concerns also exist about the future of other community initiatives and the university's relationship with the Bronzeville neighborhood. The firings followed the university's declaration of financial exigency.

Whats the deal with RDA

I am seeing RDA (Reporting,Data and Analytics) emails all around. Are they planning to consolidate all reporting teams under one leadership?

Will there be reorgs or layoffs due to that? Anyone see it coming soon in few weeks or months or later?

Whenever they bring something new, it is mostly brought as cost effective, consolidation and eventually layoffs.

What’s The Deal?

For the last two or three years we’ve had so many RIFs, and I cannot figure out why. I’ve been here for almost 17 years and this is just so unusual. We are walking on eggshells feeling like it could be us any day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason, and we seriously wonder if the company is just falling apart. Does anybody have any insight into why we’re having so many RIFs?

The rumored Union EISP will disappoint alot

The current rumor now puts a EISP offer potentially in October for 4th quarter. But let’s face it the union people costs are already built in the expense for the next 4 years. The company knows by the then most will leave empty handed. So what I hear in New Jersey especially with Multiple fiber builds going along with many different network transformation projects there will not be some across the board massive EISP offered .The head count is not there any longer along .Coupled with the fact the company has the ability to just shuffle people around pretty much to anywhere in the State they need them to work the projects. The 30 mile rule the way it’s laid out would take you border to border in any direction.I have no idea about NY they may be different.Along with more then likely a number of offers to inside type people .So good luck ,but don’t hold your breath or base your future off Rumors of a huge pay day .

Cult Meeting in Vegas!

I couldn’t be more queasy about that whole boondoggle circus in Vegas — dragging out the new execs like show ponies, trotting them around in some desperate song‑and‑dance routine for clients, flogging “new products” that any serious person would laugh out of the room. Absolutely stomach‑turning watching those mercenaries Mike and Takis hauled in strut about like they’re the future of the company, when half of them will be gone before the dust settles, leaving the wreckage behind like it’s someone else’s problem.

And honestly, the LinkedIn boot‑licking from the SVPs is even worse. Reposting every blurry moment from Forum like it’s some historic global summit, all just to kiss MC backsides and prove their undying loyalty. Pathetic, the lot of them — parroting whatever the latest corporate catchphrase is. “Double‑click on this,” “finish the swing,” all that drivel. It’s like they hop online every Monday to see what the biggest su-k‑ups are saying so they can copy it word for word. Watching from a distance and having a good laugh. Have some self‑respect, for crying out loud.

And you ever notice who these people are? Divorced, middle‑aged blokes and women, or married but outsourcing the raising of their kids — yet they never forget to post that one annual holiday photo with the children to pretend everything’s normal. What a life.

Let’s not even start on how much this Vegas stunt cost. I’m sure it’ll have the same impact as Investor Day and that Town Hall where Takis bragged about going to the NBA Finals the night before — as if he could pick a basketball out of a pile of sports gear.
