I think they reducing all software, cloud OCI, helath,SaaS everything. They are short of money to payoff the debts for OpenAi data centers.
This is what happening.
What happened?
Layoffs were just an occasional thing until a couple of years ago. How did we get to a point where they're now happening every few months?
Not worried about layoffs
How much worse off can you be than staying here if they show you the door and send you off with a nice severance package? Honestly?
Layoffs sometime soon
Too many rumors going around to just ignore them outright. Does anybody here know anything about potential layoffs in the next month or two?
How many layoffs are we going to have before they realize we're already short-staffed?
I'm so tired of being expected every few months to take on even more work because people have been cut and their work has to be done. I can't do anymore than I already do. I won't. They can fire me if they won't, but I literally can't take any more than I already have on my plate.
I'll volunteer for cuts
It'd be nice if they offered that option before involuntary cuts.
This is guaranteed to bring more layoffs
DE Shaw has accumulated a stake worth more than $1bn in Sysco, adding significant weight to the hedge fund’s long-standing investment in the US food distribution giant as the company seeks to accelerate growth and cut costs through AI, according to a report by Reuters.

Good news on the stock
That should mean we're safe from layoffs for a while, right?
The sinking ship
With the ship clearly sinking, why would anyone join Medtronic now? Please, if you joined in the last year or two, can you share why? I'm genuinely curious.
Any news on layoff continuation?
Anything concrete?
Laying off
This company had more layoffs this week. They lied to us and said that they weren't going to layoff anymore people, but that was proven to be false. I have noticed a pattern with Archer, when they hired a team from Career Builder. Ever since they came onboard, they have let go of a lot of people, to bring in their own. This was the best company to work for, and we all felt secure. Now, we are all on edge.
Oxy has been so much better lately
I don't know what happened, but the culture seems to have shifted. My manager went from being one of those horrible micromanagers to minding his own business, we backfilled two positions which made everything so much easer on all of us, and there has been no talk about layoffs for a while. I don't want to jinx it, but credit where credit's due.
Layoffs next month
Is this a certainty or still just a rumor?
Will the latest acquisition bring layoffs?
This is not a small one, I'm guessing there'll be some streamlining between the companies. Any thoughts on what could get hit on our side?
There will always be more layoffs
It's pointless asking, the answer will always be yes. The only thing you can do is make sure you're prepared for it. That's it. Outside of that, there's no point in stressing over something you can't change.
Don't be loyal to this place
The company will cut you without a hint of hesitation, they've done it before and they'll do it again. Profits come first, people come second. The younger workers aren't wrong to take what they can and move on. They learned what took some of us decades to accept.
Start living below your means
So many spend like the job will last forever. I think that more frequent layoffs have made it clear that's not the case. I know a few folks who're now panicking because their savings are nowhere close to where they need to be in case they lose their jobs. Don't let that happen to you.
The cost of losing knowledge
We let go of people who carried decades of institutional knowledge. Now we're competing against those same people who took their expertise elsewhere, and we're losing. Make it make sense, please.
Layoffs, remote workers, and Lead to One
In order to fully actualize Lead to One fundamentals across the employee base, are all remote workers eventually going to be let go regardless of performance?
Layoffs are guaranteed
Please start preparing yourselves. It will not be small and it will not be pretty. Plus, with the job market being what it is, you need to start looking sooner rather than later to have any chance of landing something. Just a few words of advice from an old-timer who's been through an acquisition or two and knows how it goes.
Layoffs next month
Has there been more info about September layoffs?
More cuts next week
Is this true?
Nvidia layoffs
I know everything seems great on paper, so why are we hearing more and more rumors about major layoffs coming before the end of the year? Can anybody with insider knowledge please shed some light on this?
Severance
Is it going to be the same as the last time? I'm hearing there might be some reductions, but I truly hope that's not true.
It's crazy how much BNY is paying talented employees to leave
BNY doesn't seem interested in keeping talented employees. They're paying some truly great people to walk out the door with each new layoff. I don't understand the strategy. You pay people to join, you invest in them, and then you pay them to leave? The math doesn't add up.
When will it start?
Usually layoffs happen between Tuesday and Thursday (I have no idea why those days seem to be so layoff-friendly). What are the chances this begins on Monday?
PrimeFlight Aviation Cuts Staff After Spirit Airlines Departure
Spirit Airlines' decision to cease operations in Milwaukee has led to significant workforce reductions at PrimeFlight Aviation Services. The company, which provides essential airport services, will lay off 27 employees at its Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport location. These layoffs are a direct consequence of losing a contract tied to Spirit Airlines' service. The affected employees are scheduled to be let go in early January 2026. Spirit Airlines cited fleet adjustments and a focus on profitable markets as reasons for its withdrawal from Milwaukee.

MPS Announces Significant Staff Reductions
Milwaukee Public Schools has informed 201 employees that their positions will be eliminated at the conclusion of the current academic year. This action is a direct result of approved budget cuts aimed at reducing overall staffing. The layoffs are part of a broader plan to eliminate approximately 260 jobs within the district. These reductions were formally approved by the Milwaukee School Board earlier in March. The affected employees received official notification on March 24.

VERP Program Is Among Us
To no surprise, VERP has made its annual appearance within Emerson. And, from where I stand, there does not appear to be that many older employees left at Emerson. I suspect, at least at my location, Emerson will not get the response that they need. Hence, in keeping with Emerson's long-standing practice of cooking the accounting books for appearance sakes, I would not be surprised if we see layoffs somewhere around mid-September.
Cargill Plant Closure Aids Displaced Workers
Cargill's Milwaukee ground beef facility will cease operations in May, impacting 221 employees. Local workforce organizations are mobilizing to provide comprehensive support for these affected workers. Jobs Work MKE is partnering with Employ Milwaukee to offer free career workshops and direct connections to employers. These initiatives aim to help employees transition smoothly into new career opportunities. The community is committed to ensuring no worker faces this challenge alone.

Milwaukee Schools Recruit Chicago Teachers
Milwaukee Public Schools is actively recruiting teachers and aides facing layoffs from Chicago Public Schools. Officials traveled to Chicago this week to interview candidates for up to 200 teaching positions and approximately 100 paraprofessional roles. This initiative aims to fill existing vacancies within MPS and reduce class sizes. The district is offering on-the-spot job offers to licensed teachers, contingent on background checks. This recruitment effort aligns with MPS's plan to enhance staffing levels before the upcoming school year.

County Jail Secures Emergency Funds
Oklahoma County officials have approved $4.6 million in emergency funding to prevent layoffs at the county jail. This decision followed a projected budget shortfall that jail administrators had worked to reduce through internal cuts. While the funding was approved, some officials expressed concerns about setting a precedent for future financial bailouts. The jail administrator will now prepare a regular budget request for the upcoming fiscal year. The approval process involved multiple votes and some debate among county board members.

KJRH Cuts Staff for Streaming Focus
Tulsa's KJRH TV station has significantly reduced its workforce as part of a strategic pivot by its parent company. The layoffs are concentrated in roles like newscast directors, producers, and photojournalists. This move aligns with E.W. Scripps' national strategy to prioritize 24/7 streaming news over traditional studio broadcasts. The company aims to deploy more journalists into the field and deliver news faster across digital platforms. While linear broadcasts will continue, the emphasis is shifting to a digital-first model.

New Orleans City Hall Faces Workforce Reductions
New Orleans is implementing significant workforce reductions to address a substantial budget deficit. These measures include layoffs, furloughs, and office consolidations impacting various city departments. Community advocates and affected employees have raised concerns about the potential negative consequences for essential city programs and services. The administration states these actions are necessary to streamline operations and ensure fiscal stability. The cuts aim to generate millions in savings to bridge the estimated $222 million budget shortfall.

Rumors about September
September is coming in hot. Hug your coworkers, motivate and encourage each other, update your portfolios, and keep your heads up.
AI assessment of outlook for Markham lab
Google AI’s analysis/prediction for Markham lab given recent past and current goings on ..
While the physical facility at Warden Ave is legally consolidated, the internal reality for the teams working there is entirely different. The lab is being aggressively hollowed out through rolling layoffs, PIPs used as exit mechanisms, and massive offshoring to India. If things continue at the current pace, the Markham lab as a major, high-value North American development hub could effectively disappear within 2 to 3 years, functioning instead as a skeleton crew or a regional customer-facing support office. The systemic gutting of the Markham site is driven by a clear operational strategy:📉 Aggressive "Workforce Rebalancing" and Shifting to IndiaResource Actions (RAs): IBM has conducted successive waves of global layoffs across late 2024, 2025, and into 2026. Hundreds of Canadian employees across Markham, Ottawa (Cognos), and Montreal have been quietly handed packages. The Cost Arbitrage Pivot: This is a clear case of "cut here, hire there". Software engineering, development, and cloud architecture roles are being systematically closed down in Markham and backfilled by a massive hiring spree in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and South India offices. The core driver is cost arbitrage—replacing North American developer salaries with offshore engineering pools.Knowledge Transfer Demands: Multiple internal accounts reveal a strict pattern where impacted North American teams are mandated to document their processes and train their replacements in India during their notice periods to guarantee their severance.🛠️ PIPs We-ponized as Hidden ExitsForced Attrition: Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) are increasingly being we-ponized as covert exit tools rather than true improvement pathways. The "Workforce Reset": Rather than paying out standard Canadian severance packages under Resource Actions, management is pushing more strict utilization metrics and stack-ranking to push out senior, higher-earning Markham engineers through forced attrition.🔄 The Transition to Junior/AI StaffEliminating Senior Devs: Legacy product teams (including Db2, WebSphere, and security infrastructure) are seeing senior engineering talent eroded.A Different Type of Lab: IBM's stated corporate strategy for North America has shifted away from traditional software engineering. Leadership plans to lean heavily into entry-level, junior hires whose responsibilities focus less on core coding and more on client management and supervising automated AI agents. The physical building won't vanish overnight, but the engineering heart of the Markham lab is being rapidly dismantled.
Verizon connect
I left Verizon about two months ago on my own terms, and looking back, I’m very happy with my decision.
At the same time, it’s difficult to watch former colleagues being laid off, terminated, or feeling mistreated within the company. Years ago, I never imagined wanting to leave Verizon. I genuinely thought it was an amazing company and a place where I could build a long-term career.
But over time, things changed. The culture changed, the environment changed, and unfortunately, not for the better.
I say this as a former Customer Success Manager and Strategic Account Manager who spent many years with the organization. Since leaving, I’ve spoken with others who have also moved on, and I keep hearing the same thing: leaving was one of the best decisions they made.
The crazy part? I finally understand exactly what they mean.
Sometimes walking away from something you once loved isn’t giving up—it’s recognizing that the place you loved isn’t the same place anymore.
