To all those who are affected by layoffs this week, get through the call and take 24-48 hours to process. Don’t react poorly in the moment, nothing new gets decided on right there.

To people watching colleagues go: reach out to everyone you hear getting let go. Don’t “give them space”, just send some kind of warmth. It goes a long way.

Nobody is going to get mad at you for checking in, and it makes a difference.

Why are they so determined to cut critical roles?

For years now, every layoff round has taken either a core role or someone who was holding the whole team together. And nothing ever gets backfilled. No follow-up, no acknowledgment of the gaps. It's like leadership wants teams to fall apart. I get that they're just lazy number-crunchers, but even then, this makes no sense.

B2B Mid Markets - Wireless

A lot of chatter around layoffs, but it seems that they are going to just starve out and fire folks in the B2B Mid Market space. Unattainable quotas, 30 day PIP process, calls for 75% of our time which limits finding real deals within our base. Over 22 years with the company, I cost more than most of my peers. I would be a natural layoff candidate. Would love to hang for a RIF, but I do not think they are ever going to let us go like that when they can get rid of us all free.

Anyone see it differently?

More layoffs end of August , splitting company

This is yet unoffical but there will be a meeting today with 3 upcoming news:

  • everyone will be fired by the end of August and replaced with offshore employees (.not high management )
  • company will be splited by 4 or 5 independent companies ( by region ) and FIS brand will disappear by end of this year.

$300 Million planned for Workforce rebalancing charges -- same as 2025

In the Q1 Earnings press release (April 22, 2026), WAY down to the financial tables section titled: “GAAP NET INCOME TO ADJUSTED EBITDA RECONCILIATION” inside the table, you will see this line: “Workforce rebalancing charges”

And see the number is $0.3 Billion for 2026, same as 2025 for the 2 months ending in March 31.

Workforce Rebalancing Charges means a one time charges for laying off employees, closing facilities, or changing management.

If IBM continues to use an average cost of $150K per employee, then $300 Million translates into ~2,000 employees.

This is consistent with what they said in January 2026 at the 4Q Earnings call.

Q1 results

All signs point to good results tomorrow with help from the blockade in the Straight of Hormuz. I’m sure we will say it is proof our strategy reset is working, and that we still have to make more “difficult” changes. Then cue layoffs announced around Q2 results. What does everyone else think?

A brief message for those getting laid off

First, I understand your feelings. I got let go from a different company several years ago and it never feels good. Even though it's usually not personal it always FEELS personal. Especially when you think about all your contributions over the years. Feelings like, "How could they let ME go after everything I've done, all the long work days, all the good performance evals and kudos, etc.!" Being upset is a normal reaction and no one should attempt to invalidate such feelings.

With all that being true, it's also important to not lose sight of the big picture. What's that big picture? All of us are on this planet for - in the span of human existence - no more than a micro-second. And unless you're very famous when you depart this planet, within just three generations almost no one is likely to remember you ever existed. The point? In the grand scheme of things...none of it really matters.

This short, <5 minute video sums it up nicely:

Hancock Builders May Cut Staff Over Funding Freeze

Financing for build-to-rent projects has halted nationwide. This is due to a federal housing bill moving through Congress. Hancock Builders, a Phoenix developer, has seven projects under construction. Founder Greg Hancock stated the entire industry is shut down. Hancock Builders may lay off workers if new projects cannot secure financing.

"End H1-B Visa Abuse " Act of 2026

https://crane.house.gov/2026/04/22/rep-crane-introduces-legislation-to-pause-and-reform-the-broken-h-1b-visa-process/

Reps. Brian Babin (R-TX), Brandon Gill (R-TX), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Wesley Hunt (R-TX), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Keith Self (R-TX), and Andy Ogles (R-TN) have signed on as original cosponsors.

It seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. It calls for a three-year halt on new H-1B visas. It also proposes that those holding H-1B visas slowly leave the United States during this time. After the period ends, H-1Bs will resume, albeit with more stringent rules and in fewer numbers.

It mandates employers to certify that they cannot find a qualified American worker to fill the job and that they have not undertaken layoffs. It also calls for a minimum wage for H-1Bs of $200,000 per year

“American workers are being replaced, and cheap foreign labor is the cause. We will not bow down to the corporations, and we will not let Americans become strangers in their own country. End the H-1B scam,” Rep. Ogles added.

Abbosh get massive raise for “Partially met expectations” rating

https://www.thetimes.com/business/companies-markets/article/activist-investor-backs-pearson-ceo-pay-rise-c2ds8j55d

This is really obtuse to give this joker a pay raise while employees suffer through no raises, compressed and lowered pay scales, artificially calculated demotions for profit.

The fleecing of workers is so obvious, but here we are.

Severance

Documents coming last minute is ridiculous. We've had the draft since November so any challenges should have already been made. Stretching out payment is disrespectful but I guess respect went out the window when they told us we were surplus. We just want to move on and they want to make it difficult.

Made a mistake joining

My last job was incredibly boring but stable. Bonuses every year, clear processes, you know how it goes. I got an offer from Ford two years ago and I thought it would be a great challenge to break the monotony. Now I'm stuck at a place where nobody knows what anyone else is doing. I miss boring.
