A Fearful Employee works Harder

Why did CP announce layoffs the better part of a year before it was scheduled to happen?
Answer: To create a culture of fear to squeeze harder work and backstabbing from its employees. An employee in deep fear is a desperate employee, especially in times of industry decline, and many will do anything to keep their job, to include going the extra mile to make co-workers look bad.

It layoffs (100 plus) in outsourcing effort to TCS scheduled for announcement October 7th , 2025
No leadership roles will be affected.
Leadership roles actually created and filled from external.
Padded bonuses from Executive to senior leadership will be protected while Long term employees will be removed and/or reduced.

Directors have too much power

My manager got demoted to IC and their direct reports were moved under the director (by the director themselves). How come the director has this much power? Why are the directors never demoted?

I like my manager much better than the director.

Now the director will have around 30 direct reports which is suspiciously high number. Looks like many people in my team will get laid off eventually.

I simply can’t find any other job

I’ve been trying for months, just to be on the safe side since I expected layoffs to happen. I thought job hunting would at least give me some peace of mind, but it’s done the opposite - I’ve started to panic. It’s so bad out there that I’m now even more terrified of losing this job. I feel cornered and paralyzed. I just hope the current job market slump is temporary, even though all signs point to it getting worse.

Remember that getting laid off isn’t necessarily a reflection of your performance or value

I’m not sure whether it’s just Houston or all locations. Houston has a lot more to process than other locations so it could go either way at other locations. My recommendation is to start cleaning your laptop of any personal stuff, take personal things home now through the next few weeks, and then you’re prepared on Nov 10th regardless of what happens. Even if it happens in the office at your location, you probably don’t want to be walking down the hall with a box of your things for all to see. Where’s the dignity in that? For those that are told to WFH, the typical process is to mail you a pre-labeled box that you can use to ship your laptop and any other company property back to the company. There’s obviously no cost to you because the box is already labeled for prepaid shipping by the company. Everyone agrees that this whole thing is a difficult process, and for some a devastating one. Everyone I’ve spoken to is stressed out and very uncomfortable with what’s coming. Nonetheless, everyone will get through it one way or another. Life will go on and those who lose their jobs (unwillingly) will find new opportunities to begin the next chapter of their lives. Life does not end with one’s job. Remember that getting laid off in this round isn’t necessarily a reflection of your performance or value. This is such a large layoff that many good people that perform well will be dismissed. But, life will go on and those that are laid off will find the next opportunity in the next chapter of their lives.

Bumping this up for visibility. OP: @b4+1k6qj76jc

Why are they keeping us in the dark?

It’s a rhetorical question, no need to answer. Leadership doesn’t see us as people, and they couldn’t care less about our families, debts, health, or the stress and uncertainty they’re putting us through. Many layoffs have gone underreported, and more are coming despite management’s attempts to convince us otherwise. What a way to treat the people who actually do the work and create the value and profits.

Careful of them letting go.

I am hoping this posts help people. I was let go in July and was provided severance for 3 months. My last day is October 21. I had been with the company for 7 years. As soon as I was informed I started looking. I had couple of interviews and they had started to do background check. BNY uses a third party (The work number) from equifax to do employment verification. I am in the last stages with one of the companies and I proactively did my verification. Here is how they are going to mess me up. In the report it shows

Employment Status: Active
Original Hire Date: my date when I was hired
Date of Termination: 10/21/2025

I am not telling employer that I am laid off as I am still receiving paycheck. I am afraid that when they do the background check they will see that the date of termination is already populated and I fear they might rescind the offer.

This company can't do one thing right other than sc--wing employees. Did anyone go through this scenario? I am afraid that I might loose this opportunity.

Getting rid of people who know what they’re doing, again

The time will come, and judging by how things look very soon, when chasing cheap, unskilled labor will backfire. There’s only so much core knowledge and experience a company can drain before everything collapses. Sooner or later, corporations will have to relearn the value of skilled labor - years of specialization, hard-earned expertise, and creativity born from experience. AI isn’t replacing anyone, and this obsession with cheap, easily replaceable workers will only lead to ruin. We’re already starting to see it happen.

Dune: Awakening Developer Hit With Layoffs

Funcom, the studio behind Dune: Awakening, has announced it will lay off some employees as part of a restructuring effort. The news may come as a surprise to many fans in light of the MMO's widespread popularity since release, although the team has dealt with its fair share of issues, too. Regardless, while work on Dune: Awakening will continue, not all the original staff will be involved in it going forward.

If I were offered a voluntary package

I’d take it without a second thought. If what some people are saying is true, that voluntary packages have been offered to some recently, and that another big round of layoffs is coming by early 2026 the latest, I really hope they roll out a VP company-wide first. Why not? I’m sure plenty of people would take that option.

Federal job cuts add strain to weakening labor market in U.S.

Roughly 100,000 federal employees officially left the government payroll this week, deepening concerns about the softening U.S. job market, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday. The departures coincide with an ongoing government shutdown that could bring additional losses.

The cuts stem from the administration’s deferred-resignation program, which allowed employees to leave but continue receiving pay and benefits for months. About 154,000 took the deal, according to the Office of Personnel Management, with most staying on the books through Sept. 30. Combined with a hiring freeze, voluntary exits and layoffs, the federal workforce is expected to shrink by hundreds of thousands this year.

Tacoma Parks lays off staff, freezes open positions

Parks Tacoma, the city’s parks and recreation district, is dealing with a combination of less revenue than expected and more expenses, making for a shortfall of $8 million. In response, the district cut some jobs last week.

The district laid off 14 staff members, and another 10 employees opted to take voluntary separation packages. The district also paused filling 25 vacant positions.

Don’t Worry, If You Process Credit & Rebills, You’ll Never Get Laid Off

As a newcomer, it’s absolutely shocking how much billing is credited and rebilled on a daily basis.

They could easily create a whole department that performs this function 24/7/365.

Is it the company’s processes, people, technology?

Like hly sht, get it together.

Cost reduction is a trap, signing your own layoff notice

There’s some serious stuff going down at IOL….
————-
Dark side, only way to survival
They can only offshore things that are in perfect shape , running smoothly, with cost targets achieved.
We learned that the hard way at Kearl and Cold Lake. We drove massive cost savings, brought the assets to top-tier performance, even down to second-lowest operating cost. Back then, they needed us. We were told, If we can hit these targets, everyone’s safe.
Turns out, that’s a lie. You can’t build sustainable savings by cutting people and replacing them with cheaper labour. Everyone from bottom to top knows this, it’s not rocket science.
The truth? Once you deliver those savings, you’ve basically signed your own layoff notice. The very success you built becomes the excuse to downsize you.
So yeah, don’t ki-l yourself trying to save a company that wouldn’t blink before cutting you loose. Do your job safely and smartly, but stop carrying the weight of “shareholder value” like it’s yours to protect.
Scr*w production, extend downtimes… f-k up regulatory stuff…. give them shockwaves… impact should be felt at market level… if nothing changed... it’s a stamp that we were not required at the first place and cheap Indian labour can sustain it.
Focus on your own value, your growth, your skills, your security. Because the system doesn’t care about you. It’ll take everything you give and still ask for more.
So stop feeding the empire, sc--w it .. they can’t offload high cost assets….those who left it’s only way to stretch your employment duration and pump your pension.

Layoffs in India

There’s a news article in India that talks about both SAP and Novo Nordisk cutting jobs.

For Novo, the reason is likely because India approved Ozempic (semaglutide) for adults with type 2 diabetes. For SAP, it’s the 1-2% cut to get rid of the dental plaque.

Can someone please share which teams are affected?

Very recently, CK lied about hiring more people in India to work on AI and now this. Can’t really trust the board’s words - I rather pay attention to their actions.

Better ways to save money than layoffs

Minnesota is no longer the state it was. Watch the documentary “A precarious state MN” on YouTube. Why not move corporate headquarters out of Minnesota to a more tax friendly state? Save on corporate taxes, vs laying off workers . Employee survey is coming up. Not sure that the people living in MN would suggest this, but it seems like a great alternative. Bonus, if they moved headquarters out of MN that would allow those staying in MN to work remotely. Just a thought. I am so sick and tired of seeing good people let go.

Inhumanity

It was bad enough we didn't get to say goodbye to those they threw out of the firm as the firm asked us all to stay home to receive calls. We found out if you were laid off you were immediately banned from the building like you were a criminal. Nobody got to say goodbye. Then those of us left got to watch the firm come through with a huge trash can and clean out the file cabinets and lockers of those laid off. Why, why would you do this during the work day? The firm couldn't do this task after hours or the weekend? This firm has lost its humanity. Guess the lesson is everyday hug your friends at work. Tell them how much you appreciate them and do not keep anything at work. Prepare like every day is your last day.

Canadians Deserve Better from Imperial Oil

Imperial Oil profits from Canada’s natural resources, while:

Releasing emissions into our shared air,
Firing Canadian workers, and
Outsourcing jobs to India — all while Continuing to claim tax write-offs for foreign labour.

This is unacceptable.
Canadians deserve responsible corporate behaviour and government accountability.

Glenview Capital

Just some food for thought regarding Glenview capital. Remember in the deal they made with CVS, they got 4 seats on the board. (In addition to obviously getting the CEO replaced as well) That said, with four seats on the board of directors, they want more than just a seat at the table, they want a say in how the company is operated. Glenview is private equity, remember that. Look at Walgreens getting bought out by private equity and already Sycamore has wasted no time making cutbacks. It might explain everything that’s happening right now at CVS. Private equity is behind the scenes calling the shots. And private equity is all about money and profits and maximizing value for investors, at all costs, and nothing else.

The Reinvention scam

Steve B et al have run an iconic company to the ground. Buying a dollar store company like Lexmark was a terrible, terrible move (just like the many, many before). What a complete joke this company has become. No merit increases, no 401K match, pretty much everything for the employees blow up or 'suspended', meanwhile Steve B, Bruno, Mirlanda, etc all gave themselves raises and padded their payout when they leave. The board is asleep at the wheel, or wants to see this head down the tubes. Fu-k Steve B and his stupid plans. Run for the hills, the layoffs and the continued bad news for the people who actually do something here are her for good.

10 to 8 to 6 to Chapter 11

The quarter is looking so rough and it’s hard to imagine 2025 closing above $10 a share. By mid-2026 exits from both institutional investors and larger accounts can only speed up, meaning the stock will see under $8 and more like the upper fives by end of 2026. The second half of 2026 will very likely be brutal on the layoffs front, we will see daily scrambles to cut costs and preserve every single cent. Some of CES’s best bits will probably cheaply end up in the hands of third-tier and fourth-tier competitors just to raise cash. Then comes 2027 and a Chapter 11 filing will look much less like a possibility and more like a certainty. Honestly Rawul should already be on the phone with a seasoned bankruptcy lawyer.
For short sellers out there the momentum is on your side.
