Hallmark eliminates 30 jobs

The company is tightening up its workforce across multiple divisions and restructured several parts of its business, resulting in the loss of 30 jobs. The cuts have been made with “the goal of investing in capabilities that will propel our business into the future,” according to a Hallmark spokesperson.

Any truth to 6k being a target?

This sounds a bit too much, but then again…

6k is 1/3. That’s the number. That gets the staffing to about 12k which is roughly half of what it was pre covid. That’s a huge reduction. With increasing output and content the goal is double the revenue of pre covid with half the staff. That’s how you turn a profit.

I’ll go nuts before this is over

I don’t care about the job itself, I just badly need it. I’m in a tough spot in life right now and can’t afford to lose this job. I know I’m not the only one, but I’ve got so much on my plate that the possibility of being laid off absolutely terrifies me. Fingers crossed for all of us, especially those in particularly precarious positions.

EACX townhall

I've never been a part of a more confusing, meaningless, awful meeting.

There were recent layoffs and the only explanation was "streamlining" without any explanation of the actual business strategy around it (if there was one).

Managing committee low scores were blamed on middle managers when it's literally his score as the leadership team to contend with.

Recognition only means Best in Us cards when people literally said career development, salary, and workforce strategy.

We're supposed to define our own roles.

If we want to grow we should learn other disciplines but if we want to be a leader we should specialize?

Constant mention of mystery open roles coming after layoffs with zero explanation of what they are and what the business strategy for them is. Almost veiled threat that we should all be applying for them after layoffs.

Blamed a typo on his direct reports not catching it.

0/10 stars

This was ridiculous.

Law Firm investigating

Cisco announces layoffs days after CEO said it won’t cut jobs in favor of AI

Law firm ‘investigating’ layoffs over alleged notice discrepancy, while Cisco brings in a new channel partner chief

Cisco plans to cut more than 150 employees as part of a new round of layoffs, with the cuts coming days after CEO Chuck Robbins said the company would not be slicing jobs in favor of AI.

The latest cuts include 157 employees at various locations in California. The majority of the cuts are are targeted at Cisco's Milpitas campus, with 64 roles being cut at its site in San Francisco. Staff at its former Redwood City headquarters and some roles at its site in Pleasanton are also set for elimination.

A plethora of roles are set to be axed, including juniors as well as executives with VP titles, among those facing layoffs, according to reports.

News of the layoffs comes after Robbins said he didn’t see the networking giant using AI as an excuse to reduce headcount.

"I don't want to get rid of a bunch of people right now," the CEO told CNBC, instead suggesting he wants the company’s engineers to “innovate faster and be more productive.”

AI was among the reasons Cisco cited for cutting 7% of its workforce last August, a decision CFO Scott Herren suggested at the time was more akin to “a reallocation versus a headcount savings.”

Those cuts followed a 5% reduction of Cisco’s global workforce in February 2024, a restructuring move the vendor suggested at the time would maximize shareholder returns.

Did Cisco break the law?
Its latest round of layoffs is, however, being probed by a law firm over claims the company could have violated U.S. labor laws.

Chicago-based law firm Strauss Borrelli said it was looking into layoffs at the networking giant, suggesting Cisco employees facing layoffs may be owed 60 days of severance pay and benefits.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, U.S. employers are required to provide 60 days' notice before mass layoffs. The law firm is investigating whether a WARN Notice was filed with the state of California at least 60 days before the mid-October job eliminations, as affected staff were reportedly only notified on August 13 – despite the dates appearing to line up.

“We are investigating whether Cisco failed to provide at least 60 days’ notice before laying off 157 employees and, therefore, violated the WARN Act,” the law firm said in a statement.

Cisco last week reported earnings that saw it bring in $800 million in AI-related revenues for the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2025, which pushed its full fiscal-year AI-related haul to $2.1 billion.

Robbins told investors that largely all of its AI growth was coming from hyperscaler customers, with two-thirds of AI-related orders tied to Cisco systems, with the remaining one-third tied to its optics portfolio.

mass layoffs just after soaring revenue report

In a Thursday interview with CNBC on the same day of the report, CEO Chuck Robbins addressed AI technology in the company’s workforce.

“I don’t want to get rid of a bunch of people right now. I don’t want to get rid of engineers,” Robbins said. “I just want our engineers we have today to innovate faster and be more productive and that gives us a competitive advantage.”

Robbins said if AI keeps advancing at Cisco, the company could possibly hire fewer employees. Cisco did not respond to SFGATE’s request for comment on the latest round of layoffs.

Dust is settling…

Everyone has received the news, the significant majority will be leaving in the next 1-10 months. Most have come to grips with the verdict, some have not, and most are slightly bitter about the lack of plan the executive leaders had for upholding two of the 6 Hess Values (Integrity and People) in this acquisition. Bitterness is temporary, all will move on to new things and I venture to say most will find it to be a nice fresh start. The Hess name plate will come down, replaced by Chevron…but the people are what make a company. Help each other out finding new roles, be intentional on keeping up with colleagues as we go in separate directions, find a role and company that make you excited to go to work everyday. Stay positive, make a plan, execute your plan…don’t look back.

More Cuts at GDIT

On August 18, 2025, GDIT submitted a notice to the Florida Division of Workforce Services indicating an upcoming mass layoff at its Doral, Florida facility, impacting 151 employees

This notice triggered scrutiny under the federal WARN Act, which requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days’ advance written notice before conducting a mass layoff or plant closure

Do more with less

Every time we had a meeting with our leaders, we're always told 'Man, It feels bad. Totally unprecedented. But we gotta keep our heads up. Support one another. Work leaner this year. Put aside all the angst and bottle it up.. etc'

Expect more layoffs and restructure in September/October 2025, especially for tech orgs. A lot of offloading being moved towards the Manilla and India teams. Our stock has dropped and is hovering in the high 80s, compared to 120 it used to be; but we can probably assume this economy under this administration isn't going to promote people to buy more (process more transactions)

Shell Shutters Its Volta EV Charging And Media Division

Shell is shutting down Volta, the EV charging and media network it bought in 2023 for $169M. The company will dismantle more than 2,000 charging stations this year and lay off around 190 employees.

Volta’s model combined EV charging with ad screens to generate extra revenue, but it was losing about $140M annually and couldn’t meet sales targets. Shell reportedly tried to sell the business but found no buyer.

The decision marks a shift in Shell’s EV strategy toward high-speed charging at its own branded stations and hubs, rather than maintaining a separate ad-driven network.

Same ol same ol from Clueless Chuckles and Fake Franny

Finally free

I was so burnt out I dreaded coming into the office every day. Today, I got laid off and it feels like winning the lottery. I know finding a new job might be tough, but this was long overdue. It’s better for both me and Wells Fargo that we part ways. Sometimes the push you didn’t ask for is the one you needed.
