It has been a couple of weeks now. Where are the posts about Virtuals getting relocation letters? Have the few people who kept perpetuating these fabricated rumors every few days gone?

Have been hearing rumors around the office, that NJ and Bothell offices will soon be closed down, and employees will be required to move to the new hub in Gary, Indiana by the end of 2027.

Samsung Electronics America and Samsung SDS America filed WARN notices confirming nearly 1,000 layoffs in New Jersey as the company relocates its US headquarters to Plano, Texas. The cuts land less than a year after Samsung opened a brand new Englewood Cliffs campus.

Why do the follow the work letters that are going out have Dallas listed when we are moving our headquarters 20 miles north in Plano? That is like a 45 min drive just between the locations.

How inconvenient to require people to drive to the Dallas location when the location is changing in 2 years. Who even comes up with this stuff? It is like they are actively trying to cause unnecessary stress and inconvenience to their employees.

I’ll be moving to Plano, Texas, as part of AT&T’s relocation policy. It’s a big change, but the more I learn about Plano, the more excited I am to call it home.

Plano seems to offer the best of both worlds: the energy and opportunities of the Dallas area, without losing the comfort of a welcoming community. There are great restaurants, plenty of parks and trails, a growing business scene, and always something new to explore. It feels like the kind of place where you can build a career and still enjoy life outside of work.

Of course, I’ll miss the people and familiar routines I’m leaving behind. But I’m also looking forward to finding my favorite local spots, meeting new people, and settling into a different rhythm.

I’m excited to continue my career at AT&T and see what this next chapter brings. For now, there are boxes to pack and plans to make—but I’m ready.

Plano feels like the place to be, and I can’t wait to get there.

These RTO, relocation, and surpluses this year have turned out to be nothingburgers in the grand scheme of things. Nothing nearly as impactful as originally advertised. Just be in the right location and right time and you are good. Now on to the next challenges.

Energy giant Chevron is moving approximately 180 jobs from its San Ramon, California office to Texas. This move is part of a larger strategy to downsize its California presence and expand operations in Texas. The affected positions are designated as relocations, with a deadline of September 8th for the move. This follows a previous reduction of 68 positions in October 2025, bringing the total downsizing in San Ramon to 248 roles. Chevron's refining operations in California remain unaffected by this decision.

Honeywell is closing its Luton facility—which manufactures water meters—in 2027 and moving production to Slovakia, where a Centre of Excellence is being established. Layoffs are currently underway.

I'm old enough to remember all the haters saying Southfield isn't a hub. Welp, just got word a multi-decade lease has been signed on a recently remodeled building. Got about 1k employees moving there over the next year. Live your designation and try not to seethe.

I am seeing First Line Supervisor lying about their move to Edmonton. They have already told their friends that they will not move. But, when talking to me, a subordinate, I am told how committed they are to move to Edmonton, and all the benefits of moving there. Looks like FLSs are allowed to lie without any consequence.

Any inspiring stories here on how you made the move to the big city leaving comfort zone to save your own job? What sacrifices you had to make and how did you decide to be mentally tough for the family to do so?

With constant reorgs, reshuffling of managers every 1-2 years, people moving out of the company, and now asking to RTO 5 days in a different state, my mental health has taken a toll. Unless I was in Dallas this whole time, there was no certainty what my office location will be and where to buy a home. It kept changing every 1-2 years. Now after 20 years, I have decided to relocate to Dallas, as I couldn’t land any other offer. WTF I am doing? I have no clue, but just trying to save the job for now.

What was your motivation to do so? I am feeling overwhelmed and under confident and just thinking all is going to he-l with this move as I dread that 2 hour commute

Did the 6/15 surplus notice mainly target virtuals or those in hubs equally impacted? Did being in a hub such as Dallas provide any meaningful protection?

What is the latest status on virtuals? Also is everyone in the clear until the new Plano HQ opens? What happens once the Plano HQ opens? Are relocation notices going to increase then?

Unfortunately couldn’t land another job and relocating to Dallas. How do you know which school is good when every school is a 8 or 10 in Frisco? It feels like eeny meeny miny mo at this point. Any neighborhoods or subdivisions y’all recommend in Frisco or Plano?

Heard the Chicago office was shutting down and some people were fired, offered severance or told to move to Plano or DC. Any confirmation?

Walmart is implementing workforce changes within its organization. This action affects 306 employees located in Sunnyvale. These employees will either be laid off or relocated. The changes specifically impact the Global Tech, Product and Design organization. Job cuts are scheduled to go into effect on August 21.

Relocated for the job, but I see its too expensive to buy homes etc here, if I request to be transferred to Atlanta, will they retain the NJ pay or lower it?
As it is long hours, ok pay, no increment, no bonus, job market outside is worse!

Under Armour is closing its current office in Portland, Oregon. Some functions will move to its Baltimore headquarters. Other roles will relocate to New York or a new Portland location. These changes are expected to be completed by 2026. The company did not confirm employee numbers affected or any layoffs.

Will the NJ / NYC resources be asked to move to Charlotte?

If your job relocates and you decline to move with it but have the time to retire, would you be eligible for unemployment benefits in the state of Alabama. Does receiving a severance package play a factor?

Seems like fewer folks than originally thought actually want to move to OKC. It will be 50/50 Permian staff in OKC and Midland. Seems like they are favoring continuity over cutting folks.

I am asked to relocate to this year. But I don't have my team there. So, I asked for Dallas and it was unofficially granted. My husband has been laid off due to org restructure just 2 weeks ago and his health has gone down drastically, requiring at least 2 months to recover. I have asked for an extension for next year in current place but did not get granted, while my peers did not receive letters. If I don't relocate, i will lose my job too. Not sure how to navigate this with kids.

Well, what leaders, especially certain SVPs, VP’s, and Sr. Directors, have been waiting for has happened. The $100K H1B visa fee has been blocked by a Federal Court. The wheels are already turning in RR and Austin to start lining up all the relocations from India to the US. While those are in process, a new large round of US citizen layoffs is in the works. My SVP is an Indian, and I just overheard his conversation with his Indian Sen. Director to start looking at Bangalore candidates to consider moving. It’s never going to end!
