I've been at 3M for a few months and the culture seems toxic beyond anything I had expected. A heavy-handed top-down style, micromanagement to the extreme, little or no autonomy even for managerial roles, no real sense of direction or strategy, employee morale in the toilet, and all this coming from a CEO who seems to take pride in scaring the he-l out of his direct reports. Is it just me/my perception, is it just an adjustment period, or is that really the way things are going to be? I've been at several large corporations in mid and senior roles and never seen anything this bad. It's certainly not somewhere I could see making a bet for a satisfactory long-term career.

Are there jobs for JD Edwards ? Is it something worth investing time.

I regret coming here, toxic manager yells at me openly in meetings. My whole team is also not US based. I'm a US citizen working mostly on C++ doing bug fixes feel like this is so hard to sell even as a Sr Swe. I'm trying to leetcode/system design review but I feel so far behind. Grad school? Getting a cert? No idea how to sell this place

Now we have a reputation that PayPal is where careers go to wither. Honestly, being laid off is probably a gift at this point.

Considering an offer for a sales job selling firstnet, fiber and other services to government accounts for those of you that have been with AT&T for more than 5 years what type of job do you have and do you see a career path for advancement?

I wasted three years in Nike's fear-based culture that drained everything from me. My new job is far from ideal, but it's still ten times better than Nike. The biggest mistake of my career was joining that place.

I was terrified when I got cut. Turned out to be the best career move I never planned. I found a place with actual work-life balance, better pay, and zero dread. They exist.

Nice. Had my feedback session today and was told that I am a really great employee but my supervisor couldn’t overcome some negative perceptions about me that the assessment group had. Said I need to work on my perception this year to get the credit I deserve. What does that even mean? On one hand I am told I am doing great but then that I won’t be rewarded for it because people can’t see it and I am not visible enough?

Curious as to how a VG early in your career affects your career prospects with the company. Are you limited in how far you can go? Looking for personal experience

Haven't filled out a job application in over two decades and I have no idea what to do with this. If I say yes, they call my manager and I'm outed as a job-seeker. If I say no, I look like I'm hiding something. The manager already made it clear he doesn't want anyone on the team who's thinking of leaving. I don't know how to navigate this without torpedoing my current position.

Which would you have picked if you had the option? Charlotte would make sense only for commute to work and cost of living. Dallas on the other hand has lots of companies if T lays you off a year later. Both cities are new to family and kids are still in schools.

I have spent 30 years at Intel and have accumulated about $7M with no liabilities. I am early 50's. I guess my issue is I don't feel $7M is enough to retire. However, the RTO has removed my joy and I keep feeling like "why do I put up with this". I feel like I am doing a great job, but otherwise no longer have ambition for more promotions.

For awhile I was looking for other jobs, but now that the stock is up, I have another $1M if I just stay 2 more years. Do most of you feel the same way?

If I wait to be laid off, I'll get severance and unemployment (allowed in my state), but I'll be competing with everyone else who got cut for very few available jobs. If I quit, I get nothing but I can have a new job ready before I leave so there is no uncertainty. Neither option is ideal. I'm sure others have been mulling this over as well, I'm curious what you've decided to do.

This is a very volatile industry, whether you survived the layoff(s) or not, we constantly need to reinvent ourselves to remain competitive, unless you're lucky enough to retire. I've been in the industry now for going on 30 years and have seen CEO's come and go. Seidenberg, Lee, McAdam, Vestberg and now Shulman, all got their cut and moved on. Take what you can from the experience and reinvent yourself, here or somewhere new. Life is too short to let these companies dictate your life to you. Peace to all

I’ll be moving to Plano, Texas, as part of AT&T’s relocation policy. It’s a big change, but the more I learn about Plano, the more excited I am to call it home.

Plano seems to offer the best of both worlds: the energy and opportunities of the Dallas area, without losing the comfort of a welcoming community. There are great restaurants, plenty of parks and trails, a growing business scene, and always something new to explore. It feels like the kind of place where you can build a career and still enjoy life outside of work.

Of course, I’ll miss the people and familiar routines I’m leaving behind. But I’m also looking forward to finding my favorite local spots, meeting new people, and settling into a different rhythm.

I’m excited to continue my career at AT&T and see what this next chapter brings. For now, there are boxes to pack and plans to make—but I’m ready.

I was cut after 15 years at Centene. I was in a specialized department and fully expected to retire there, but corporate decided our roles are likely being outsourced. Shoutout to our director for actually being VERY transparent about it instead of bullsh-tting all of us. The exit package was $56k, 8 months of COBRA, and 3 months of career placement help (for most of us it's useless)... it felt pretty fair and I signed the docs... now it's time to look for the next thing

Has anyone else noticed that they are posting certain jobs as external only? Not allowing internal candidates to apply? I’ve also noticed that some of these external only jobs are remote, whereas all the jobs posted internally are hybrid at best. Anyone know what’s going on? What does this mean for career progression?
