I keep seeing posts from people saying they can’t land a job, and I’m confused. So many who have been laid off seem to refuse anything that doesn’t feel perfect or exactly their level. How do you manage to be so picky if there’s no paycheck coming in? Do you think severance will last forever?

In case people are wondering why the job market is so employee-unfriendly, with so many people laid off and looking for work, including skilled, high-quality candidates, it’s no wonder employers are lowering requirements and lowballing offers. Something tells me things will get worse before they get better.

Being away for a week only made me realize how miserable I am at Dell. I know I'll be tripling my job search efforts in the new year.

because the disciplinary letter did not work, manager suggested to look for other opportunities since her entire team department got wiped out...

It’s funny how uncertainty flips a switch. Suddenly my resume’s polished, alerts are on, and I’m paying attention again, looking for any opportunity to leave. Not exactly the motivation I wanted, but I’ll take it.

Don’t expect a new job opening until April or later. No be one is hiring.

Have any of the other laid off employees been struggling to find work? I've had to start an Onlyf-ns. It isn't going great, but it is helping me buy food. If any other RIF employees also had to do this to survive let me know and maybe we could collab.

I stopped obsessing over salary and focused on finding something that actually interested me and let me grow my skills. Starting over isn’t easy, and I knew that going in, but the constant stress disappeared almost immediately. I’m learning new things, branching out in my field, and not dreading every workday. That alone has made the move worth it. It’s been a real breath of fresh air.

I have applied over 90 roles at Fidelity, not a single call for interview and it comes back as they are moving forward with other candidates. If the company and specially hiring manager has someone in their circle or known group member to hire why post it and wasting my time. I like Fidelity culture, benefits, despite of their low pay scale as their 401k, bonus and other things make up of that pay

I’ve been looking for another job for months now, partly as a precaution and partly because I really need a change. But it’s incredibly depressing out there. I’ve been genuinely trying, and I’ve managed to land a grand total of one interview. Has anyone had better luck?

We have like a crazy amount of Job Postings this past couple of weeks. Why would there be this much if they have layoffs in early January.

First, I asked my supervisor and HR and no clear answer so I am asking here as many of you got severance. Does the payment come on normal pay cycle (6th, 21st), I was surplused in November and no check yet, I got denied unemployment because Company listed I got severance but nothing yet, bad time of year to have no pay, severance would help, job searching tough. Appreciate any input

Getting laid off made me realize how much time I poured into SAP, and now it feels like there’s nothing tangible to show for those years. Losing the job hurt, but losing momentum and watching skills stall or fade has been even worse, and every new ghosting after an interview just chips away a little more at whatever confidence I have left. It’s not fun on the outside.

That’s pretty much my plan for next year. This round of layoffs was highly motivating.

That’s Verizon in a nutshell. After everything that happened this year, I don’t know a single person who’s not desperately looking for a new job.

I work in downstream engineering. The company Im interviewing with is in commodities trading. I’m not positive if I want this potential job or not, but I do want to do the interview and evaluate the potential offer. But for some reason I have this nagging that Exxon will fire me for looking at other jobs. Is that true or am I just being anxious?

or children or friends for some weirdos across the country or world behind a computer. I promise the grass is greener.

That place has become a toxic cesspool. Shady recruiters, Every other topic political and people posting whoaaa is me. I totally get their grief but It's only going to make you more upset and angry.

And these job postings. Probably ghost postings like on job boards. They post just to stay compliant.

And these stupid brain teaser games. Nobody want to see that cr@p.

Older folks can try to ride it out. But if you are younger person you need to look externally for opportunities. Going from 4.5 to 3.5 % is a ~23% cut on 401k match, plus any lost compound interest. Also factor in medical premium increases for next year. Your financial position is now worse, it doesn't make financial sense to continue here (which is obviously what they want so they have to pay less severance). Yea the job market is tight and not everyone can find another job, but financially, you owe it to yourself to look around as you are doing same work for less $. I am not even going to get into bonus and raises because we all know that will be close to 0.

I'm at the point where I'd pay for a new job. Or take a major pay cut. Anything just to get out of here.

I haven't been here long, but the company's public image seems to have taken a real hit lately. I'm starting to worry that having this on my resume might not be helping my applications. Maybe it's just my nerves, but the thought's definitely crossed my mind more than once.

When someone submits a resume today, they have the abysmally low 0.4% chance of actually getting the job, per Business Insider.

If it’s true that we’re heading into a phase of rolling layoffs lasting through the end of February, then the chances of losing a job go up significantly. The earlier you double down on your search, the better your odds of landing at least one offer. The pickings have been very slim out there, and it’s only getting worse.

So this is just classic. They laid a ton of people off and the system that we are all supposed to log into to review our severance and search for jobs isn’t working. I personally know over 35 people that aren’t able to login. We all just keep getting told we’re working on your ticket. This is great, get fired on Tuesday. Told the next steps to look for a job and view your details about your severance is to login and it’s still working and nobody can answer any questions. Class act.

Srini made it clear that a massive layoff is coming in Q1. There is no respect for any of us. I’d be willing to bet that the layoff will happen before the end of February to avoid a bonus or stock payout.

Update your resumes start looking now and go out on your terms, not theirs.

None of those senior leaders are sitting up on that stage give a flying F about any of us.

Q1 layoff means that some of you will be training the interns that will be your replacement replacements.

Back in January, I told myself I'd be out of Verizon by the following year, and I really thought that was realistic. Instead, it's nearly 2026, I've been applying nonstop, and the only real movement I got was almost being pushed out instead of leaving on my own terms. The job market's been rough for a long time, way longer than most people acknowledge.

When looking for a job, let the technology work for you. Set up job alerts on LinkedIn. When you see a job, post immediately because sometimes postings get pulled quickly. Bring your laptop with you to the office. Take a lunch and use that time to look for jobs. Know you will go on interviews and get ghosted. You will take various personality tests and get ghosted. If someone tells you they are interested, know they might ghost you. Know if you work with a placement firm and they find you a role that is not a good match, they will ghost you. Rejection is part of the process. I was not prepared for that.

It took me 7 months of rejection to find a new role. I applied for 3 to 7 jobs every week on average. In all types of industries. And in the end, I found a job that is remote (but with 2 offices within driving distance) that is paying me 35% more for less responsibility. The culture is far better. We like our employees here. I should have done this years ago.

Here I'm watching coworkers-folks who've shared laughs, powered through the toughest shifts, and had each other's backs-getting shown the door in these layoffs. But here it is, an ex- Kearl supervisor out here hawking job postings overseas, begging his "connections" abroad to apply. What a total sell-out! Dumping dedicated Canadians for cheaper foreign hires? This is betrayal at its finest.

Who still works at HQ and is actively looking for a new role outside of Target? Just hit the up arrow for yes and down arrow for no. Just curious on overall perception of Target right now.

I currently have a strong job offer outside of Target (roughly a 20% raise). I work in Supply Chain in HQ. I’m having a hard time deciding if I should just stick it out through this hard period or if I should leave. It’s with a well established Fortune 500 company here in the Twin Cities. How would you evaluate this with Target’s potential in the future? I’m afraid to jump.

Getting less money in your budget next year? Should be no surprise, but expect more or less in the development world because of it. It’s a simple formula that the budget pays for salaries and if you have less money than you will have less employees eventually. Get the résumé out now!
