A note to US folks who are impacted (or not)

I was hit back in March and among the first to confirm it was happening here. What’s followed has been the hardest job search I’ve had in my decades-long career. Some of this is sales specific, but I hope it’s useful to everyone.

  • Back up everything: don’t wait until you get laid off. Back up all relevant work details like paystubs, promotions, attainment, praise, deal closures etc. Save anything relevant to RSUs or unpaid bonuses. Save EVERYTHING you’ve ever signed.
  • Keep track of what Oracle actually owes you, because they will try to get away with paying less. If you closed a deal with a distant Sales Effective Date, save that. Save emails from management pressuring you to close it. Save any emails that even insinuate you’ll be compensated in the form of bonuses or other benefits for work that goes beyond your normal duties.
  • Do not sign anything regarding your termination without talking to a lawyer. Remember that Oracle is not offering you severance out of kindness; they’re offering you the absolute minimum they believe they can get away with in exchange for liability protection.
  • If you’re unhappy at Oracle, or you’re worried about layoffs, start looking now. The job market is tough but it’s tougher for those without a job.
  • Tough doesn’t mean impossible, and there are signs of life. I’ve been interviewing all year, but activity right now is better than it’s been during that period. I see other people getting jobs, and I’m (knock on wood) close.

Above all, remember that this is just a job. You are not what you do for a living. Don’t let a layoff defeat you, and don’t treat it like a vacation. If you need to, take a short time to experience the loss, but then get back up and back into the fight. You’ve got this!

Has Anyone Else Experienced Bias in Their Job Search?

I’m beginning to notice a troubling pattern in my job search. When the hiring manager is Indian or most members of an interview panel are Indian, I rarely advance. Looking back, my successful applications all involved white, non-indian, interviewers.

I understand that this pattern alone does not prove bias and that many factors influence hiring decisions. Still, after losing my previous role to HIH and seeing that IT departments are majority Indians, it is very disheartening to think that I
might never find a job again. I am competing with Indians here and outside the US.

This is not a judgment about every Indian interviewer or hiring manager. It is an honest observation about my own experiences and a pattern I believe is worth examining. Has anyone else noticed possible affinity bias during their job search? Have you noticed the ratio of Indians and non-Indians in your team?

Spirit Airlines Job Seekers Struggle

Thousands of former Spirit Airlines employees are still seeking employment nearly four months after the company ceased operations. Many have attended multiple job fairs and submitted numerous applications without success. The job market remains challenging for these displaced workers. Some are considering careers outside of the aviation industry. The situation highlights the significant impact of the airline's shutdown on the local workforce.

To person who writes STCB or Computational team

I know this restructuring is really difficult, and I understand how stressful and uncertain things must feel right now. But at the end of the day, a company is still a company. Its priority is the business and the money, not necessarily the people. Whether STCB is performing well or not, or whether the Computational Team is doing a great job or struggling, it ultimately doesn’t change the fact that you need to think about your own future first. So, instead of worrying too much about what the company is going to do, start updating your résumé, interviewing with other companies, and preparing yourself to leave if the right opportunity comes along. There are many better companies out there. If you feel like you’re missing some skills, you can work on developing them before making a move, or you can move to another company first and continue building your skills there. Either way, the important thing is to create opportunities for yourself rather than waiting for the company to decide your future.

The LinkedIn job scam

These are growing in number, so I just thought to warn other people who're as desperate to leave as I am. Be careful of recruiters reaching out on LinkedIn, and if a job looks too good, it probably is. Check the name, the phone number, and the company. Sadly, times like these attract many predators.

STCB News Please

I know there have already been quite a few posts about STCB, but still I wanted to ask again because I genuinely want to understand what the plan is going forward.

For me, the biggest confusion is whether it makes sense to start looking outside and jump to another company earlier than I had planned, or just stay with STCB, take it a little easy, and see how things settle down. With so much uncertainty, even a little clarity on the future would really help.

Recommendations for job search

Curious to what people have done to successfully find employment elsewhere. Does LinkedIn really work? I see a lot of job postings on there, but also lots of applicants. Are recruiter/head hunters still the best route? What has worked and what hasn't. Thanks in advance and hope for helpful responses.

Shelby County Sees Layoff Surge

Layoff notices in Shelby County have quadrupled in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. State data reveals a significant increase in employees affected by job cuts. This trend is highlighted by major companies like Nike, GXO, Ikea, and WK Kellogg Co. experiencing substantial workforce reductions. One laid-off parent expressed the difficulty of job searching in a saturated market. The economic instability is a significant concern for residents facing unexpected job losses.

Rumor Has it…

They are eliminating all of the TLs in practice management, giving them 60 days to find a new job in the firm with not many other details provided on what then. As many of us saw, once you were ISP’d there was no going back, you were black balled.

It’s not over people, they are still cleaning house, no one is safe. Get out while you can.

Layoffs Prompt Workers to Reassess Career Paths

Widespread corporate layoffs are prompting many individuals to consider significant career changes. These job reductions, driven by factors like AI advancements and restructuring, are pushing workers to evaluate their transferable skills and identify new opportunities. A successful transition involves researching job market demand, acquiring necessary new skills, and making a strategic move for long-term stability. While some may need immediate income, developing a thoughtful long-term career plan is crucial. Many professionals can leverage existing experience in new fields rather than starting over at an entry-level position.

Now's the time to start looking

I've seen too many coworkers get laid off and panic because they'd been out of the hiring game for years. Start looking even if you're staying. Apply, interview, and keep your resume fresh. The worst that happens is you see what's out there. The best is you get an offer you can't refuse. You've got nothing to lose.

Will you take any time off?

I've been thinking about what happens if I get the call. Do I start sending applications the next day? Or do I take some time, a couple of weeks or a month, to reset before diving back in? I've seen people do both, but I'm not sure which is right.

Economy-Wide Layoffs Impacting Older Workers

Job cuts are expanding beyond the tech sector, affecting government, retail, and financial services. Older workers, often in higher-paying positions, face increased difficulty re-entering the workforce due to age bias and evolving skill requirements. Industries like healthcare, education, and utilities offer more stability for this demographic. Staying current with skills and maintaining professional networks are crucial for mitigating risks. Understanding industry trends can help individuals prepare for potential job market shifts.

Texas Unemployment Issues?

Has anyone else run into problems getting your unemployment paid in Texas? They denied our claims for payment because of getting the severance package! So now after 6 months separation, they will now start the 6 month clock to claim. So 6 months of logging every job search so far, and now have to keep on logging it. No one is even willing to interview a database programmer in their 60’s! We appealed, and it took them 12 weeks to finally set up a hearing on it next week. Any tips?? TIA

Will start looking for other work if my team is hit again

My team has been reduced by 30% in the last year while Oracle GPT has not made us 30% more efficient. The people let go in the last layoff had been at Oracle a long time which has made things harder slower too. My job has turned into a death by meeting multitasking he-l.

I’ll be looking for other companies to work for if my team is reduced again.

The "We Bought Your Clients, Goodbye to Your (VBG) People" Playbook

Guys, regarding the “so called” JV….its not!

Coming at it from a sales perspective BT have the client footprint, better infrastructure and most significantly, staff costs are significantly lower than Verizon’s

There are very few instances where Verizon has deeper client facing relationships in EMEA….especially in their own backyard (UK).

The Verizon Sales/Sales Managers/Sales Directors in are particularly vulnerable as BT run a tight ship with grading/remuneration. Just do the maths…this is all about efficiency.

Check what BT pay your role online…you will be shocked…they won’t have two pay scales…and everyone at BT isn’t getting a rise!

The support people will be retained in line with the one year commitment to avoid disruption to clients. This also allows sufficient time for Verizon clients, many of which were sold solutions that couldn’t be delivered/supported, to be standardised.

I am sorry to be bearer of bad news but you really should be updating your CV’’s…don’t be fooled…this re-badging ends badly for Verizon.

Show Verizon the same loyalty they have shown you… make the move now….before the decision is taken out of your hands.

Career Mobility Site - Internal job board

Citi's job board is a total fraud. Every fake interview is just a cruel waste of time for a job already promised to some buddy or contractor.

HR and managers have zero morals. Someone needs to audit this rotten system, and the candidates who applied internally should start saving screenshots of the staff lists before and after few months to catch them in their lies.
What a waste of time!

PIP is different this year

If you are NSI this year be very careful before choosing to try the PIP. This year managers have been told they will not be allowed to pass people on the PIP. Managers are scared of going against the guidance as passing people will be seen as not willing to make the hard choices that management material need to make. You are better off taking the PIL and using the time to look for a job.
