they would never make the error of you knowing that you are on a list

If you think they would make a mistake like that and that you’d somehow know upfront that you were going to be terminated ,you’re crazy. Do you really think they would make an error like this ? they've been doing it for years

having the OIM account added DOES NOT mean you’re on a list. You may still end up being laid off, but it’s not because of the OIM account.

stress is making us seeing the worst in everything ..

Had a 1:1 that turned out NOT to be a layoff

I know my manager is an id--t but what kind of a heartless monster do you have to be to schedule a 1:1 titled update with somebody on a layoff day??? Related to something that isn't even all that urgent? I'm so, so angry now I can't even think properly. Yes, I'm relieved but I genuinely thought I was getting cut. I nearly threw up. What the fu-k???

PIP++

Adding myself to the list: Sudden PIP after years of being rated "exceeds", getting bonuses, equity grants, etc. Demographics-wise, caucasian, over 60.

If this happens to you (and it could, even if you don't think so!), do NOT take it personally. It is not a reflection on you, your value as a person, or your potential.

Presumably in a month or so, we will discover what life as an ex-IBM'er is like...

Did anyone get a meeting invite in US titled "Important Team Update"

Did anyone get a meeting invite in US regarding team update coming from business update? For the places where layoffs happened is this how they send the information? Also what roles are most impacted, senior or junior? Are there any specific job profiles they are targetting?

Bloodbath in India today

I posted below a post a few days ago that I received an invite from my skip and HR for today. Turns out it was entirely for a layoff. Today, there was a big wave that hit me and several others at the Bangalore office. Not sure if other countries are impacted so far. Anyway, stay strong and good luck everyone, wherever you are.

Bell Labs head explicitly announced there will have 40% cut

Bell labs head (G.P.) announced that there will have 40% reduction in the whole Bell Labs, and only 6 research centres will be kept. He said these numbers are accidentally sent out to all Bell Labs researcher in a ppt, and he refused to make any explanation on these numbers. Once people asking about the discontinued Network Systems Research lab, no comments and no responsibilities but still blablabla on AI-based research. One of the most chaotic All hands in Bell Labs.

The head of Bell Labs (G.P.) announced that the lab would lay off 40% of its staff, retaining only six research centers. He claimed these figures were mistakenly sent to all Bell Labs researchers in a PowerPoint presentation and refused to offer any explanation. When asked about the disbanded Network Systems Research Lab, he neither responded directly nor took any responsibility, yet continued to discuss how AI could be used research blablabla.
This was the most chaotic all hands meeting in Bell Labs' history.

Sadly but Marcus Weldon is correct on what the new TAO is doing:

Matter of "when" not "if"

It seems like for people working at T-Mobile layoffs are not a matter of "if" anymore it is "when" because sooner or later it will be your turn. They like making people work under that fear. All these gimmicky chit and benefits when the ship is clearly sinking.

Feast for Leadership

  • Long Beach faces a major budget shortfall: The proposed FY2027 budget seeks to close a $58.2 million deficit by eliminating 483 positions—263 filled and 220 vacant—along with cuts across city departments and services.

  • Top officials are still scheduled for raises: Mayor Rex Richardson’s salary would rise by $5,763 to $198,086, City Manager Tom Modica’s by $11,487 (3.01%), and City Council members’ salaries by about $1,829 each. Many increases are mandated by the City Charter, contracts, or labor agreements.

  • Department heads are getting raises while their departments lose positions: For example, the Fire Chief is budgeted for a $7,392 raise while Fire faces reductions equivalent to about 33 positions, including the proposed elimination of Fire Engine 14. Library, HR, emergency communications, and technology directors also have higher salaries budgeted alongside staffing cuts.

  • The mayor and city manager say they’ll donate their increases: Richardson says he will donate his $5,763 increase to libraries and community organizations, while Modica says he is donating his entire $11,487 increase; Modica already donates money from previous raises toward homelessness efforts.

  • The raises have become a “shared sacrifice” issue: NBC4 asked all nine councilmembers whether they would decline, delay, or donate their raises. One councilmember said the City Charter prevents simply declining the salary increase, while seven did not respond by the deadline. The mayor’s and city manager’s donations are tiny relative to the $58.2 million deficit, but the controversy centers on whether senior officials should share in the sacrifices imposed by layoffs and service cuts.

The grass is greener…

So I am still bitter about my time at USB Business Banking. I was recruited away from my previous employer, a solid place, to work on the Greatest Product Ever Imagined - Business Essentials!! Told the opportunities here were endless! Well wouldn’t you know that after almost 2 years I was part of a RIF…BE was released so why did they need me or most of the others on my team?? (50’s, white woman, everyone left on my team India , but I digress). I’m still pi---d that I was lied to and basically lured away with lies only to be laid off right before Christmas.
I used my network and landed a role before my severance ended, and I was not sad I was laid off. I was pi---d. Anyway, I’m still at that new job, it’s not with a big bank but is in finance, fully remote, and it’s solid and stable.

I guess my point is my bitterness lingers, but after reading about the cr-p you all are enduring here, I’m so glad I was laid off. Despite what you see about the market, there are opportunities! They may be with small, unknown businesses, but they’re out there. Nurture your network. It’s how I landed my new position and I’m convinced it’s how I will land in any future positions.

Sometimes, the grass is greener.

Hiring frees? Silent departures.

Rumor is there is a hiring freeze. That makes sense with the state of the business, but I’ve seen 20+ people leave and mostly not get replaced. Just in the past 3 months.. In the few instances they have, the backfills old role remains open and the backfill is doing multiple jobs.

The vast majority that I have seen leave are actually good at what they do. Every one that I spoke to also confirmed they were getting paid much more at their new jobs outside the company. They have silently departed.

My boss is always nice and supportive, but I can tell that he is nervous too. He was very professional when I asked him about but said “at Pepsi, you always have to see the focus trends early and be prepared for layoffs at any time.” He’s been here 15+ years and knows his stuff, but I can tell it’s is really wearing on him lately.

What I need to remind myself is to start looking for another job now. Those 20 people were senior levels to me and good. That is a sign of how employees are being valued. The smart people figured this out before me.

I am done

Layoff , you might be next, no hikes , no promotions, manager politics
I am getting too tired. I will be leaving soon even if O doesn’t give me a slip.

30 days notice?

Has anyone VP or above refused to give the ridiculous 30 days notice and leave in 2 or “effective immediately.” I’m strongly considering giving 2 middle fingers to these id--ts and just turning my equipment in. Curious as to what the firm can actually do to retaliate other than maybe put on the do not rehire list.

I wonder how HR feels about all this

A few months ago I was talking to a recruiter about coming back to Fidelity after I got laid off. When I spoke to them, they said something like "it's a huge relief I don't have to explain that whole connect week thing to you compared to other people I call". They also said "yeah... it's gonna be an experiment".

From the outside looking in, you can tell a lot of these people in HR have opinions on what's going on that they don't want to be outward about. Anti bootlicking opinions. Or at least that's what I see. They hate the new laws of the land, they're just the ones that have to enforce them.

So, if you're in HR, if you feel comfortable sharing, what do you think about all this?

Every capped H1B should have to reinterview against Americans yearly

We really need to address Oracles abuse of H1B. They lay off Americans and then hire more H1Bs at the same time. There should be a requirement for capped H1Bs to have to interview for the job with a group of qualified Americans yearly. This way we can prove the H1B is needed over an American. Especially at Oracle. I guarantee the H1B wont' be needed because we have a qualified American for the job.
